Productive Landscapes portfolio collaborates with regional, national and local

women.
Key
areas of work include sustainable agriculture, strengthening smallholder
organizations, access to markets, finance and business development, green
growth and climate smart technologies, sustainable energy and carbon finance.
Gender
and youth are cross cutting themes in Hivos East Africa green foods programmes.
The coffee programmes in this portfolio consist of two main programmes- the
sustainable, Secure Smallholder Systems at Scale (4@Scale)and the Gender &
Generational Empowerment Programme.
Reports
to: Programme Manager, Green Foods & Productive Landscapes
Oversees
the supervision of the following team: Monitoring and
Evaluation Officer, Gender Officer (2); Project Officers (2);
Works
with: Global Programme Director,
Green Society, Finance Officer, Private sector partners and consultants.
The
Project Manager oversees the coordination and administration of all aspects of
the Coffee Programmes including implementation, planning, organizing, staffing,
leading and overseeing programme activities.
Your
responsibilities
1.
Programme Implementation:
Overall
management and coordination of programmes and projects in the green foods and
productive landscapes portfolio in East Africa including but not limited to:-
·
Provide strategic and technical
oversight to ensure programmes deliver high quality outputs with accuracy and
consistency.
·
Ensure regular field visits to all
programme sites and maintain strong and productive relationships with
implementing partners, stakeholders and donors.
·
Maintain excellent and healthy donor
relations and ensure Hivos and grant partners adhere to grant agreements.
·
Lead and manage programme monitoring
and evaluation for continuous learning, improvement and growth.
·
To assess the levels of risks
associated with programme implementation and suggest mitigation strategies.
·
Ensure donor reports are submitted to
donors in the best possible quality and with strict adherence to donor
reporting guidelines.
·
Manage partnerships and relationships
with staff, colleagues, partners and stakeholders.
·
Promote brand visibility through
innovative communication and information dissemination.
·
Contribute to programme development
and fundraising for the green food portfolio by working closely with the
Programmes Manager.
·
In collaboration with the finance
department, manage budgets and finances in coffee programmes and ensure prudent
resource use.

Represent Hivos in an attractive and
leading way and position it as a thought leader in the coffee sector.
2.
Human Resource Management:
S/he
is responsible for performance management of all staff reporting to him/her.

performance based management and leadership.

Create a conducive work environment
and team culture for professional growth and development of personnel at all

Your
profile:
·
Demonstrable knowledge and experience
of the coffee sector in East Africa. Should be well versed in the issues
affecting small holder and SME coffee farmers in East Africa.
·
An Advanced university degree in
Agriculture.
·
At least 3-6 years experience in the
East African coffee sector. Experience in working with Private Sector is a
plus.
·
Demonstrable research skills, and
ability to present research findings in clear and convincing ways to donors,
partners and other internal and external stakeholders.
·
Demonstrable experience & track
record in working with international donors in substantial programmes.
·
Demonstrable track-record in
programme development and resource mobilization.
Working
Conditions: The Project Manager will be based in
the Nairobi office, but should expect to spend 50%- 60% of time in the Uganda
and Tanzania office.
The
Project Manager is expected to travel frequently especially to remote parts of
rural East Africa.

Job context: The Programme Officer is responsible for the growth
and development of new and/or existing Renewable Energy programmes in the
region, consistent with Hivos’ vision and standards for renewable energy.
He/She will be the main contact
between Hivos, donors, and partners in the development of new and /or existing
initiatives that provide for strategic and innovative programme expansion for
organizational growth.
The successful candidate will work
closely with other Programme Development Officers and Programme staff in the
Hivos East Africa office.
This position is based in Nairobi
with regular travel and visits to donors, partners, and relevant actors in the
region. This role may involve some international travel.

Your responsibilities
1. Plan for, develop and resource
Programmes in relation to Hivos’ priorities and strategies in the renewable
energy domain.
This includes:

With partners, staff members and
other stakeholders where you will work to co-create & develop innovative
programmes that seek to address identified opportunities in accordance with
Hivos’ Renewable Energy Goals;
·
Develop new initiatives to support
the strategic direction of the organization;
·
Develop and implement long-term goals
and objectives to achieve the successful outcome of the programme.
2. Designing and implementing a
strategy to identify, track, and secure suitable and sufficient funding and
resources to support Hivos’ evolving work in renewable energy.
This includes:
·
Identifying and proactively pursuing
grants and fundraising opportunities;
·
Preparing grant applications, concept
notes and proposals to donors;
·
Coordinating fundraising activities
and events;
·
Seeking in-kind, financial, and/or
pro-bono support from relevant partners, companies, governments and service
providers;
·
Building a solid donor intelligence
network/base representing the local, regional, and international donor
communities, with a view to expanding Hivos’ green energy portfolio;
·
Establishing and participating in
formal and informal networks with relevant partners, donors, and actors;
·
Building strategic and lasting
partnerships with investors, donors, governments, development partners and the
private sector.
3. Actively participating and
contributing to financial forecasting at the project and organizational level
to determine necessary funding and resource requirements.
4. Securing suitable and sufficient
funding and resources to support Hivos’ operational requirements.
5. Actively representing the
organization’s program development interests at relevant meetings, events, and
within resource mobilization or donor-specific peer networks, as they relate to
Hivos’ work.
6. Provide other programmatic,
research, administrative, and logistical support as needed.
Your profile:
·
Must be passionate about renewable
energy.
·
Masters degree in Energy Management
or in Energy and Environmental Management or with an (Electronic)-Engineering
background with an additional commercial degree.
·
Demonstrable experience and knowledge
of the Renewable Energy sector and issues in Kenya or Uganda, or Tanzania (or
all three).
·
Minimum 3 years of post-graduate work
experience in the renewable energy field ideally in carrying out nonprofit programme
development and/or fundraising within the private sector and/or international
development organizations.
·
Demonstrated donor network in Kenya
(required) and in the region (preferred).
·
Ability to work on short-term
assignments with tight deadlines while managing multiple tasks and pipelines.

The Programme Manager oversees the

Programmes: Ensure strategic relevance and continuation of Green Food and
Productive Landscape programmes through proposal development and building
mutually beneficial relationships with potential donors and partners.

With partners, staff members and
other stakeholders, work to co-create & develop innovative programmes that
seek to address identified opportunities in accordance with Hivos’ Green Food
& Productive Landscape goals.
·
Plan the overall delivery overall
programme and its activities.
·
Develop new initiatives to support
the strategic direction of the organization.
·
Develop and implement long-term goals
and objectives to achieve the successful outcome of the programme.
·
Develop an annual budget and
operating plan to support the programme.
·
With the Design, M& E and Learning
Staff, develop a programme evaluation framework to assess the strengths of the
programme and to identify areas for improvement.
·
Develop funding proposals for new and
existing programmes to ensure the continuous delivery of services, supervise
and support the business development officer and other staff in development of
fundable proposals, and ensure proposal quality before submission to the
Regional Director.
·
Work closely with the Business
Development officer to gather donor intelligence and identify potential sources
of funding.
·
Maintain excellent donor relations
through close consultation with the Regional Director as required.
·
Represent Hivos to donors, government
officials, UN agencies, other development partners and other stakeholders as
needed.
3. Human Resource Management: S/he is

Your profile:

At least 5-8 years of managing
diverse teams: Able to manage a diverse team of persons and teams drawn from
multiple countries and in multiple disciplines and sectors. This includes an
ability to inspire teams to deliver quality results and promote partnership
collaboration.

An Advanced university degree in
Agriculture and Rural Development, Development Economics, Environmental
Science, or closely related disciplines.
·
At least 5-8 years experience in
programme and financial management.
