For over a century, CMMB has worked to strengthen and support communities through healthcare programs and initiatives, the distribution of medicines and medical supplies through our Healing Help program, and the placement of volunteers.
 
CMMB Kenya is seeking to recruit a well qualified and experienced person to fill the following position:

Maternal, Newborn & Child Health Specialist 

Location: Mutomo, Kitui, Kenya
 
Overview: The Maternal, Newborn & Child Health Specialist, reporting to the Country Director, is responsible for providing direct technical support and mentorship of health care workers in public health facilities as well as county health personnel to ensure provision of expanded high quality integrated health care in Maternal, Newborn and Child Health issues including reproductive health.  

Responsibilities
  • Provide onsite clinical mentoring in MNCH to health facility staff to strengthen service delivery. 
  • Lead, coordinate and deliver training and the necessary technical backup for MNCH facilities.
  • Coordinate and implement health, nutrition, mental health and dental services to children. 
  • Help the project beneficiaries access MNCH programs.
  • Facilitate proper implementation of written proposal relating to MNCH.
  • Support implementation of Kenya National Guidelines and other relevant guidelines relating to MNCH. 
  • Develop an annual plan that includes targeted activities for MNCH program.
  • Ensure completion of screenings, referral follow – up and treatment, ongoing care and updates and maintenance of health services records and tracking systems for all pregnant women and children in accordance with state and referral guidelines.
  • In collaboration with MOH strengthen systems that include necessary MNCH/SRH data capture tools, as well as service delivery that ensures the documentation of the impact on MNCH/RH. 
  • Conduct needs assessment; prepare project proposal and implementation plan, and track project budget utilization & activity implementation performance for MNCH. 
  • Provide technical assistance in planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of MNCH activities at Mutomo Hospital providing information on updated training materials, MNCH guidelines and different indicators. 
  • Assist supervisory in MNCH policy, strategies and implementation challenges and successes.
  • Regularly visit supported health facilities within the county to provide technical assistance.
  • Identify potential areas of research; prepare concept papers & proposals and conduct operational research (implementation research) on MNCH to the Country Office that will ultimately give raise to programmatic interventions and better services improvement.
  • Implement locality-specific strategies to increase demand and utilization of MNCH services.
  • Prepare/adapt and disseminate relevant educational material, teaching aids and clinic reference materials for the delivery of high impact interventions in MNCH.
  • Participate in monthly dashboard reviews of project clinical outcomes and utilizing project data to prioritize interventions related to MNCH. 
  • Collect and document best practices of MNCH in implementation sites which can be benchmarked for the future reference. 
  • Ensure availability of standards, guidelines and job aids to MNCH team. 
  • Provide technical assistance to MNCH related quality improvement activities. 
  • Coordinate programmatic evaluation research and actively participate during development of research concept or protocol. 
  • Prepare budget plans, track budget utilization during implementation. 
  • Timely preparation of activity reports to the Program/Project Manager. 
  • Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly and annual activity and progress reports (both qualitative and quantitative). 
  • In consultation with and when delegated by Project/Program Manager, represent MNCH team and participate in national and regional meetings such as MNCH review meetings.
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications
  • You have a minimum of 3 years’ hands-on experience working in MNCH programs providing technical assistance. 
  • You have a Bachelors’ or Masters’ degree in Public Health/Nursing, Diploma in Clinical Medicine/Registered Midwifery, or Clinical Social Work.
  • You have training in reproductive health and pediatrics. 
  • You demonstrate knowledge of computer applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and internet research. 
  • You are willing to travel 75% of the time and work under difficult conditions with minimum supervision. 
  • You are willing to learn and continually hone clinical skills. 
  • You have experience writing resource mobilization and proposals.

Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) Specialist 


Location: Mutomo, Kitui, Kenya

Overview: 
The WASH Specialist is responsible for overseeing the implementation of civil engineering and social aspects of WASH components. 

The WASH Specialist will oversee and manage the repair and maintenance of hand pumps, distribution of water purification sachets as well as water quality monitoring. 

The incumbent of this position shall ensure that CMMB is in compliance with government of Kenya regulations. 

Responsibilities 

Program Management and Evaluation 
  • Coordinate and thoroughly implement field activities and operations as scheduled in project documents in a professional manner. 
  • Under take water quality (microbial, physical and chemical) analysis of treated water using potable water quality kit, as per water quality technical guidelines approved by the government/WHO. 
  • Assist in preparation of water and sanitation implementation plans or proposals for possible funding. 
  • Organize appropriate trainings in the project area as scheduled. 
  • Ensure that program inputs are procured, handled and distributed responsibly. 
  • Sensitize the community both formally and informally on their role in sustainable water supply and hygiene practices. 
  • Ensure that selected communities are given skills and knowledge in the use of sustainable methods and techniques that will ensure clean water supply and hygiene practices. 
  • Effectively undertake any other duties that may be appropriately assigned by the supervisor.
Representation and Networking 
  • Regularly liaise with the relevant Stakeholders and other NGOs involved in water and sanitation interventions for effective implementation of project activities in the operational area. 
  • Conduct field trips for visitors to the project area. 
Documentation 
  • Compile monthly activity reports for inclusion in the qualitative and quantitative reports submitted to Country Office, and contribute to the other reports as required. 
Human Resource Support & Team Work 
  • Supervise community groups undertaking water supply and hygiene interventions in a professional manner. 
  • Provide timely and appropriate advice to the respective groups, ensuring that the groups are duly introduced to the government staff for future follow-up. 
  • Provide support to sectorial teams at the County level, e.g. Water in order to strengthen overall impact of targeted program interventions. 
Technical Assistance, Capacity Building and Knowledge Management 
  • Provide technical advice and support to the country office to plan and organize capacity building programs for community water management, water quality surveillance and response planning, sanitation and hygiene promotion. 
  • Identify training needs for the purpose of capacity building and sustainability of program/project. 
  • Provide technical expertise as required, facilitates learning exchanges as well as policy influencing. 
  • Ensure critical gaps in information, knowledge and understanding relating to water supply, water safety, water resource management and sanitation and hygiene promotion are recognized and addressed by stakeholders in the project location. 
  • Create inter-sectorial learning alliances, analyze documents and share best practices. 
Influencing Policy and Building Partnerships 
  • Analyze existing WASH sector policies and policy environment, governance and institutional bottlenecks, systems of management, risk allocation and coordination systems around WASH sector programs relevant for beneficiaries. 
  • Recommend corrective actions to be taken by the country office to improve efficiency and effectiveness of WASH sector programs to ensure adequate focus on proposed intervention in Mutomo area. 
  • Convene strategic partnerships to impact on overall beneficiaries to support WASH programs and resources in Mutomo, Kitui. 
  • Participate in meetings with Ministries/Departments/stakeholders responsible for programs/project review, and follows up on implementation of recommendations and agreements. 
  • Assists in the development and/or introduction of new approaches, methods and practices in project management and evaluation.

Qualifications
  • You have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in WASH programs in rural/urban settings and you have a bachelors’ or masters’ degree in environmental/public health, water management or related field. 
  • You have excellent coordination and networking skills including liaison with WASH stakeholders.
  • You have knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and data analysis software, and you have good analytical skills. 
  • You have the ability to work and communicate in a cross-cultural environment.
  • Experience in resource mobilization and proposal writing will be an advantage, as well as working in hardship areas.

Information & Communication Technology (ICT) Intern 


Location: Mutomo, Kitui, Kenya
 
Overview: The ICT intern will be responsible for providing support and assistance to members of the CMMB Kenya team when necessary in the delivery of ICT projects. 

The intern will assist in maintaining and supporting CMMB Kenya ICT systems, solutions and services across departments. 

Responsibilities 

User support and Systems maintenance 
  • Ensure that computers and other ICT facilities in CMMB Kenya are in good working condition and the users are given support whenever required. 
  • Initiate and support processes for formulating information and communication technology policies, regulations and procedures at CMMB Kenya, and monitor implementation. 
  • Continually asses ICT needs at CMMB Kenya and develop appropriate plans and budgets for addressing gaps 
  • Provide technical guidance in the procurement of ICT hardware and software goods and services 
  • Provide technical ICT support in the development and implementation of CMMB ICT policies and strategies 
  • Provide advice and technical support to CMMB staff on proper usage and handling of ICT facilities 
  • Rationalize and harmonize diverse data sets to ensure an integrated database system for CMMB Kenya and all users, including interconnectivity of workstations 
  • Install and maintain CMMB Kenya local and wide area systems and services including installation and configuring of software applications, and data and systems security 
  • Carry out software design and development as appropriate 
  • Organize for the appropriate servicing and maintenance of CMMB Kenya ICT facilities 
  • Identify and escalate situations requiring urgent attention. 
  • Provide technical support to programs and stakeholders to effectively utilize CMMB ICT infrastructure
  • Monitor progress of work plan implementation, identify issues (technical and coordination), and offer solutions. 
  • Support CMMB field offices with ICT issues 
Database administration 
  • Provide documentation for CMMB programs and custom listing of data condition and availability at CMMB 
  • Provide ICT support in the development and maintenance of the CMMB databases, website and intranet 
  • Support the M&E function with data entry and generation of reports and maintain up-to-date Resource Centre 
  • Responsible for the editing and producing and sharing CMMB Kenya Quarterly Newsletter
  • Produce CMMB communication materials and formatting of standard organization E-Documents 
  • Take a leading role in electronic branding and marketing of CMMB programs and other activities 
  • Ensure each department back-ups and shared drives are secure and promptly effected 
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by management including appointments in various committees

Resource Mobilization, Marketing & Communications Manager
 

Location: Nairobi, Kenya

Overview: The Resource Mobilization, Marketing & Communications Manager will play a key role in supporting CMMB Kenya to plan, develop (including writing), manage, direct and maintain the organization’s grant base and other resource platforms. 

The Manager will assist the Country Director in publicizing CMMB Kenya initiatives and programs.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a fully integrated fundraising & partnership resource mobilization and development strategy.
  • Identify, respond and maintain grant opportunities and grant tracking matrix.
  • Review, monitor and document donor funding policies and trends for Kenya.
  • Lead resource mobilization capacity development planning and implementation for the country office.
  • Identify and maintain consortia in preparation for upcoming and on-going opportunities.
  • Ensure appropriate representation of the country office at strategic donor, partner, and government meetings that could lead to resource acquisition and collaboration.
  • Prospect and coordinate opportunities for the Country Director to meet with donors.
  • Serve as a member of CMMB Kenya Senior Management Team.
  • Coordinate all marketing/communications and fund raising development activities in the country office while serving as the lead writer for communication and marketing content.
  • Work in collaboration with the Marketing and Communications team to develop creative and effective print and electronic marketing /public awareness material that utilize personalized stories/ testimonials, program outcomes and engaging images.
  • Support the Project teams to document success stories and briefs on innovation/best practices and project learning for CMMB website on CMMB’s impact to the society.
  • Manage the coordination of the grant implementation process in collaboration with other CMMB teams, including the development of work plans, technical and management approaches, correspondence, budgets, contracts, agreements, reports and close-out at the country office level.
  • Track, monitor, and ensure successful grant and contract management and fulfilment in accordance with donor requirements.

Qualifications
  • You have a minimum of 5 years’ experience working with international non-profit organizations and have a master’s degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, Communication, Journalism, Business Administration/Development, International relations or an associated field. 
  • You are familiar with global protocols and funding, and you demonstrate experience preparing, writing and managing grants and contracts. 
  • You are proficient in spreadsheets, networking and database management.
  • You have current knowledge of development issues, donor trends and strategies, as well as programming policies and procedures in the NGOs and international development. 
  • You are creative and exhibit productivity in resource mobilization, marketing and communications.
  • You are attentive to detail and have the ability to work well under pressure and cross-functionally.

Logistics Assistant / Driver

 

Location: Nairobi, Kenya
 
Responsibilities 
  • Clear and collect company’s commodities and goods 
  • Deliver letters and parcels to and from designated points 
  • Supervise outsourced services and workers such as mechanics 
  • File returns on programs mileages 
  • Drive company’s motor vehicles as instructed by the immediate supervisor 
  • Carry out daily routine checks on the vehicles before driving out 
  • Ensure maximum security of vehicle and its accessories when under his/her charge 
  • Ensure safety of passengers and cargo under his charge 
  • Monitor the condition and performance of vehicles and promptly report to superiors 
  • Carry out minor repairs and adjustments on the vehicles and maintain their cleanliness 
  • Take vehicles for servicing and repairs as directed by the superior 
  • Maintain a record of movement for the vehicles assigned to him 
  • Submit reports on vehicle movement and mechanical conditions as requested 
  • Assist in work registry and filling 
  • Undertake any other logistical support as requested by the immediate supervisor 
Qualifications
  • You have a valid drivers’ license and a valid certificate of good conduct. 
  • In addition, you have 2-3 years’ driving experience in Kitui and its environment.

Project Manager, DREAMS

Location: Nairobi, Kenya

Overview: TUSAIDIE WASICHANA WAELIMIKE (“Support Girls to Learn”) is an awardee of the prestigious DREAMS Innovation Challenge. 

The project aims to support girls from Nairobi’s informal settlements to stay in school at key dropout points by making schools more girl-friendly and gender-equitable and by advocating to the private sector to expand scholarships for project participants. 

The TUSAIDIE WASICHANA WAELIMIKE project manager will be responsible for the overall vision, leadership, and project management, including technical and budgetary oversight and work with partners and stakeholders. 

The project manager ensures timely planning, implementation, coordination with partners, monitoring, and evaluation of all project activities.

The project manager will also represent CMMB as the primary point of contact for information on the progress and current status of all activities under the agreement with the donor, and will manage the preparation and presentation of all proposed implementation plans and reports, ensuring compliance with donor and CMMB strategy, commitments, and goals.

Responsibilities
  • Take overall responsibility for planning, coordination, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation (M&E) of DREAMS/TUSAIDIE WASICHANA WAELIMIKE project activities in the project area, overseeing programmatic, financial, administrative, and staffing aspects of the project, with high quality and measurable impact.
  • Oversee annual work plan preparation, identify external technical support needs, and ensure that appropriate management practices are used in project implementation. Ensure that M&E systems are used to provide timely management information.
  • Develop and implement information dissemination activities to publicize the project achievements and results with concerned stakeholders and communities.
  • Engage stakeholders and partners at all stages of the project cycle for their insights on the appropriateness of proposed and ongoing project approaches and interventions.
  • Use appropriate project management tools to plan, review, and track progress on project implementation as well as on the utilization of project resources; use participatory processes to overcome implementation obstacles.
  • Keep abreast of latest developments in the sector, collaborating with New York office technical advisors, network with other outside technical experts regarding sanitation in schools, scholarships for secondary schools, education in informal settlements, gender equity in education, etc.
  • In coordination with the M&E officer, develop and implement strong DREAMS/TUSAIDIE WASICHANA WAELIMIKE project M&E system, using CMMB tools and resources to maximize project impact on project participants.
  • Liaise regularly with the donor with project implementation progress reports; ensure timely submission and approval of quarterly donor financial and narrative reports.
  • Ensure that program activities comply with CMMB/USAID financial guidelines, policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • In collaboration with the finance team, review and analyze monthly budget reports and take steps to ensure management and utilization of funds.
  • Lead regular DREAMS/TUSAIDIE WASICHANA WAELIMIKE project reviews; when needed, adjust project strategies and update materials. Promote innovative and effective methods to achieve project objectives.
  • Prepare short success stories and briefs on innovations and best practices and project learning, and ensure that they are shared with the donor and relevant CMMB staff to illustrate project impact and for dissemination.
  • Ensure that all project documentation is well organized and easy to access.

Qualifications
  • You have more than five years’ experience in the education sector, working in the community development /health field and at least three years in a senior management position. 
  • You have knowledge of Kenyan community health strategy, structures, and challenges and have PEPFAR/USAID project experience.
  • You are experienced in project management techniques and tools, both theoretical and practical aspects. 
  • You also have experience working with schools and demonstrated knowledge of the challenges associated with water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH). 
  • You also have clear knowledge of mentorship and advocacy within rural and urban contexts. 
  • You have experience in launching, planning, and managing communication campaigns and have excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
