Primary
Duties and Responsibilities will include,
Reporting
to the Chief Technician. The main the purpose of this role is:
- Reading
and Interpretation of Drawings – Creating equipment technical
drawings in 2D and 3D using CAD; Checking the plant status of the refrigeration
plant, compressors, backup generator and refrigeration containers;
Maintaining processing equipment ranging from separators, homogenizers,
UHT milk processing and packing machines and; Scheduling, servicing with
contractors and attending to boilers and Maintaining the compressed air

- Reporting
all the activities that have occurred during the process operations with
all the due documentation. Handover /Take over of tasks should be clear,
comprehensive and accurate to ensure continuity of operations.

and standardization of laboratory chemical and reagents for use in the
laboratory.
- Sampling,
analysis and testing of incoming raw materials, work in progress (WIP) and
all finished products while ensuring a high level of accuracy in all the
tests carried out. Retests in duplicates may be done as may be necessary
and feasible. All the test results obtained must be reliable.

Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs) are upheld and that the work environment
is clean and tidy.
- Responsibility
over the handling and operation of all laboratory resources under your
care. All malfunctions, breakages or shortages should be promptly reported
for remedial action.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties and Responsibilities:
- To
observe, improve and report the raw milk supply chain from the dairy
farmers, milk graders, cooling station up to the processor.
- This
improvement should be towards KEBS standards of raw milk.
- To
train farmers on quality of raw milk and good husbandry to increase
income.
- To
train milk-graders, milk-transporters and dairy technicians in the supply
chain.
- To
guide and train the Dairy farmers / Cooperative Societies on milk quality
and traceability.
- To
link-up the farmers, the Cooperatives and the Processor.
- Provide
dairy value chain development and commercialization support to smallholder
farmers and co-operatives in the assigned region.
- The
position holder will coordinate raw milk supply chain activities under the
supervision of the Milk Procurement Manager and will be responsible for
the effective and timely execution of planned activities within region.
- Coordinate
and conduct all key trainings for dairy groups in group dynamics,
cornerstones and animal health management.
- Design
training materials and other promotional methods and materials to promote
farmer coordination, mobilization as they relate to improved livestock
management and animal well-being.
- Develop
robust production monitoring indicators including a strong database for
all production and productivity parameters.
- Responsible
for monitoring and reporting on key trends in production and productivity.
Including: collect, analyze and validate relevant data and produce
technical reports as key input in designing strategies to increase
production and productivity as well as supporting capacity building
efforts for farmers.
- Monitor
production and productivity related indicators at producer organization
level and provide timely advise to enable attainment of key productivity
targets;
- Provide
technical support to farmers and cooperative societies to setup robust
extension systems that effectively serve smallholder farmers to increase
production and productivity.
- Provide
technical support to farmers to prepare and implement efficient feeding,
extension and breeding plans;.
- Work
with input service providers including Artificial Insemination services,
to ensure that they deliver training and quality services to farmers –
feeds, animal drugs, equipment, breeding services among others;
- Submit
timely weekly, monthly and quarterly reports indicating progress for each
of the targeted farmers or cooperative societies.
Qualifications
Required:
- Field
experience with dairy farmers with emphasis on training
- Knowledge
of common raw milk tests and readiness to learn advance testing practices
- Proven
record in communication skills and report writing
- Diploma
/ Degree in Dairy Technology, Veterinary Medicine, Animal Husbandry,
Agricultural Education and Extension, Agri-business management,
Agricultural economics or a related field is required.
- Minimum
of 5 (Five) years field/technical experience with agribusiness
development, farmer cooperatives, entrepreneurship and/or a business
related field in the dairy sector.
- Proficient
knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, presentation tools, electronic
mail (Microsoft Office preferred) and Internet.
- Fluency
in both oral and written English and Kiswahili. Knowledge of local
dialects will be an added advantage
- A
rider’s license is a requirement for this position with a rider’s driving
experience of 2 years.
