Position: Associate Learning Designer 


As an Associate Learning Designer you will  revolutionize the way 21st century STEM skills and knowledge are developed in African schools. 

You will be a central member of the team that will develop the learning model that we will use in our schools in Kenya. 

While we are ideally looking for someone who can be based in Nairobi, we are open to candidates who need to remain based in the US but are open to spending up to 50% of their time in Nairobi over the next two or more years.

How will your typical Week at Nova Look Like?
  • Supporting the Learning Designer and Master Designer in creating the day by day plan for the curriculum
  • Designing schemes of work with coaching and support
  • Helping to identify the themes and big ideas for each subject they are helping to design
  • Infusing  National Curriculum from textbooks and outside text into lessons
  • Creating all materials for each lesson plan
  • Creating offline and online content when applicable for lessons
  • Researches the most effective types of assessments
  • Designing assessments and creating rubrics for assessments.
  • Receiving professional development on the Nova Model of Learning Design, integrated curriculum design, STEM, PBL
Who You Are?
  • You have 2+ years of teaching experience in a rigorous, high-expectations setting
  • You have distinctive experience and interest in math, technology (e.g., coding) and/or the sciences
  • You have a track record of developing creative and rigorous curriculum that has led to distinctive learning outcomes and can demonstrate this through example products and references
  • You have a desire to further develop your curriculum development skills and apply them to transform the lives of African youth
  • You have strong writing skills and are able to use those to create lessons that will help people learn it while being engaged and interested
  • You are driven by data and can use data from student assessments to strengthen lessons and spiral in key skills

Position: Lead Learning Designer

How will your  typical Week at Nova Look Like?
  • Using  themes, big ideas, and National Curriculum to create the day by day overview of lessons.
  • Work with the Senior Designer/Director of Academics and classroom teachers to revise Scheme of Work
  • Creating detailed inquiry based lesson plans that infuse technology and the materials that go with each lesson.
  • Creating a full unit’s worth of material that culminates in Project Based Learning
  • Creating offline and online content when applicable for lessons
  • Work with the Senior Designer/Director of Academics  and classroom teachers to revise lessons after they have been taught.
  • Working with learning designers in Humanities and Math/Science to create an integrated projects
  • Working with the Senior Designer/Director of Academics to create the overarching vision of the PBL for each unit
  • Creating strong assessments/rubrics that allow each teacher to evaluate students during the PBL and at the end.
  • You may act as a manager to an Associate Learning Designer or the Curriculum Intern
  • Create Do Nows that assess important components of what was previously learned
  • Create interim assessments that infuse IGCSE, IB, SAT and PISA into the questions.
  • Use KCSE questions in the interim assessments to determine how students are progressing towards their ability to pass the KCSE
  • Receiving  professional development on the Nova Model of Learning Design, integrated curriculum design, STEM, PBL
Who You Are?
  • You have 4+ years of teaching experience in a rigorous, high-expectations setting

Position: Talent and People Development, Senior Manager
 

As the Talent and People Development, senior manager, you will work closely with the Talent & Partnerships Director to steer the growth and development of our top tier team as we move towards scale. 

You will be the Director’s strategic partner in recruitment of senior roles, creating and implementing best in class recruitment, retention, professional development and employee engagement / culture building strategies that will enable Nova to meet and exceed our ambitious growth plans. 

Policies and systems will be integral for scale, which is an important aspect of this role

  • Keep Nova’s culture strong and our team engaged as we grow
  • Ensure that Nova’s mission, values, culture, success, and growth potential are broadly communicated and internalized across the organization
  • Lead a best in class recruiting operation to build a team of top senior talent
  • Support strategic planning for the people side of Nova’s expansion that includes succession planning and organizational design

  • Build our capacity to manage performance and develop talent across the organization:
  • Build upon and manage organization-wide performance metrics and performance review processes, and lead review process for the Management team

  • Manage organization-wide identification of professional development needs and ensure that those needs are met

  • Support compensation strategy, contract negotiation and renewal processes across the organization
  • Plan for, benchmark, and communicate compensation and benefits

Who you are

  • 7+ years’ experience in a busy organization setting. School experience would be a plus
  • Creative but with extensive knowledge in people, performance and reward management.
  • Good organizational, interpersonal, presentation and problem-solving skills
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field from a recognized university with post graduate in a relevant field
  • Conversant with HR practices and policies.
