Manage Factory Operations
  • Report directly to and work closely with the Director of Operations to be his extension in a new factory location in the Rift Valley
  • Plan daily, weekly and monthly production schedules and oversee the execution by factory staff
  • Oversee all materials movement; from raw material purchases though the operations processes and up to finished goods storage and shipment
  • Pro-active, Attentive Management; spot problems before they escalate and continually develop recommendations and options for improved efficiency and team building for management consideration

Report and ‘Manage Up’ to Executive Team
  • Keeps management informed by submitting activity and results reports, such as daily production reports, weekly updated & plans, and monthly reports via DropBox and Cloud-based Inventory tools
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related operational activities as needed
Perform Secondary Operations Responsibilities
  • Manage the installation and maintenance of factory processing equipment (example; nut dehuller, cold-press expeller and milling machine)
  • Financial management and control; assist the accounting team on payment management and processing, including appropriate documentation of all transactions from purchasing to selling
  • Logistics; organize and ensure cost-effective and timely delivery of all materials and payments for suppliers and from customers
  • Human resource development; responsible for starting and building a team of up to 15 factory workers in the Rift Valley, including:
1.    Recruiting and hiring of staff both to build a strong team and manage labor costs
2.    Manage staff leave, maintain zero staff unrest, comply with NEMA regulations, ensure zero workplace accidents, fire incidents and ensure staff training as necessary
  • Maintain records and compliance with local government bodies (NEMA, KEBS, etc) to ensure company is always in good operating standard
Requirements for Position:
  • 5+ years’ experience in Operations and Management positions
  • 3-5 years’ experience in agri-processing business and machine maintenance
  • Demonstrated experience with simple agri-processing machines such as a nut dehuller, oil expeller and/or milling machine
  • Strong advantage to those with prior experience in Kenya’s agribusiness sector
  • Diploma or Degree in Management or a Business related course preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Must have the ability to handle pressure and be self-motivated
  • Minimal training available in fast-moving startup environment
  • Strong with numbers and comfort with technology
  • Ability to complete basic mathematical equations quickly and confidently
  • Comfort with computers and software including Microsoft Excel and inventory tools
  • Individual must have experience (preferred) or passion for agriculture
  • Demonstrated comfort in the agri-processing sector
  • Background of nut and/or oil processing strongly favored
  • Preference to those with valid driver’s license and ability as responsible driver
  • Experience with Rift Valley and Mt. Kenya region regions a plus
Location: While the final job location will be in the Rift Valley, the team member should expect to spend up to 6 months in Nanyuki undergoing training and mentorship from the Director of Operations and factory staff here.  

After training and mentorship is complete, the role will relocate to the Naivasha-Nakuru area where they will be responsible for initiating and launching the operations of the 2nd factory from the ground-up.
