Business and Operations Manager
 
Primary Purpose: Working closely with Regional Operations Manager and the CEO, the Business and Operations Manager will provide the overall business and operational management support in the implementation of all components of our client.

To do so, s/he will; establish and maintain strong working relationships with  stakeholders; assist with day to day organizational management activities, including budget management and work plan monitoring; coordinate activities; analyze market information and disseminate key findings, monitor internal project metrics and share lessons – learned.
Duties & Responsibilities
 

Representation
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with partners, dairy board, government, processors, and service providers.
  • Guide the board, and management towards a long term goal by participating in planning meetings, contribute to problem –solving and work collaboratively.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with our client’s supported Producer Organizations.
  • Liaise daily between our client’s to ensure smooth communications and coordination of activities.
  • Participate in board meetings.
Management
  • Provide leadership and  strategic direction tour client to become financially self-reliant, income generating entity for the benefit of its members (dairy producer organizations)
  • Lead the processes of operational planning, managing and monitoring of our client’s activities, as well as provide assistance and support to our client staff.
  • Provide overall technical guidance and forward progress on emerging business and operational issues.
  • Help manage our client budget to ensure adherence to budget limitations.
  • Report internally and externally on progress and status of activities.
  • Support the CEO and the Country Program Manager to identify strategies and tactics to achieve their goals and milestones, as well as bottlenecks to effective execution of their objectives.
  • Ensure production of high quality, timely outputs per the objectives.
  • Ensure timely production and sharing of collated organization performance metrics.
  • Support the CEO in establishing and maintaining strategic linkages and networks in agri-business in Kenya.
  • Coordinate with Country Project Manager (CPM) and assist in developing operational plans and budgets.
  • Develop Financial and investment plans and models for our client.
  • Overall coordination and quality monitoring of our client teams’ input and work content.
  • Ensure information is shared and flows transparently.
  • Assist in the management of stakeholder relationships
  • Oversee development of training manuals management and key staff; and hub management and key staff.
  • Identify recruitment needs for our client.
  • Create vision for effective market information systems that provide price, quality, quantity and timely information.
Impact
  • Ensure implementation of our client strategic and business plans and ensure growth in revenue and profits for our client to achieve self-reliant business entity.
  • Memoranda of Understanding and contracts established with selected business partners, and ensure implementation
  • Keep abreast of changing situation in the dairy sector and facilitate our client to be able to capitalize on the changing environment
  • Develop toolkits, best practices information and market resources that support our client member smallholder dairy farmers (in order to achieve strong supply of goods and services and expanded dairy markets which are assembled and readily available to all partners and other key stakeholders.)
  • Market information system established that provides price, quality, quantity and timely information to farmers and other key stakeholders
  • To establish our client as an entity that is providing returns in tangible and non-tangible benefits to the POs and their dairy farming members.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or agribusiness with a minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in business development and management; with three (3) years in a senior supervisory or leadership capacity.
Preferred Requirements:
  • Master’s in Business Administration
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in business development and management, running a medium size profit-centered / commercial enterprise preferably in the dairy sector.
  • Demonstrable track record of growing small/medium size operations into a profitable, sustainable business.
Most Critical Proficiencies:
  • Strong private sector experience and entrepreneurial skills.
  • Strong commercial acumen and leadership skills.
  • Strong interpersonal/people management skills and excellent oral and written communication skills a must;
  • Ability to develop, understand and cohesively analyze reports.
  • Demonstrated track records of building strong client and stakeholder relationships.
  • Excellent English oral & written presentation skills.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally when necessary.

  • May require constant sitting and moving; working at a computer for extended periods.
  • Working with sensitive information and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Performing multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds (9 kilograms) floor-to-waist.
  • Willingness to work with a flexible schedule.
  • Willingness to travel both locally and internationally.
