Position Title: Project Officer, ENRICH Kenya - Enhancing Nutrition Services to Improve Maternal and Child Health in Africa and Asia (ENRICH)

Reports to / Position Title: Project Director, ENRICH
2. Background: The Enhancing Nutrition Services to Improve Maternal and Child Health (ENRICH) project is a CAD 41 million initiative funded by Global Affairs Canada (GAC), targeting five countries in Africa (Kenya and Tanzania) and Asia (Bangladesh, Pakistan and Myanmar).

The ENRICH project will be implemented in consortium with World Vision Canada as lead, Harvest Plus, the University of Toronto, Canadian Society for International Health and the Micronutrient Initiative (MI). 

The project will be implemented over a four-year period, concluding in 2020.
 
The project is expected to increase the access to basic nutrition and health services of a total of 2.09 million people – approximately 800,000 women and 740,000 children.
 
3. Overall Purpose / Broad Function: To provide programmatic, financial and administrative support to MI’s ENRICH Project Director in the implementation and coordination of the project in Kenya.

4. Key Duties and Responsibilities
 
4.1 Project Development and Planning:
  • Provide specific inputs as directed by the ENRICH Project Director in developing implementation strategies, quarterly/annual workplans, including drafting financial budgets or plans.
  • Support the review of policies, guidelines and programme frameworks related to micronutrients and development of an advocacy plan.
  • Develop drafts of and provide inputs to implementation plans, training schedules and other planning documents to ensure the successful implementation of the project in Kenya.
4.2 Project Implementation:
 
Support ENRICH Project Director in ensuring the day-to-day coordination of project work including:
  • Coordinating communication between MI and other ENRICH consortium members on the implementation of project activities.
  • Consulting with Ministry of Health at County and National level on the design and planning of MI supported activities.
  • Coordinating technical assistance required from all MI units in support of project activities.
  • Liaising with other Program Officers to ensure alignment of Project activities with MI programs in Kenya
  • Developing the terms of reference for subcontracted national and international consultants.
  • Preparation of contracts and contract approval sheets, following-up on and checking invoices, preparing payments, payment requisitions, timely submission of reports.
  • Ensuring appropriate entries in the contracts database are made.
4.3 Project Monitoring, Reporting and Evaluation:
  • Support the ENRICH Project Director in the development of a project monitoring plan and regularly monitor its implementation.
  • Conduct regular monitoring of project activities in coordination with ENRICH consortium members.
  • Ensure that a system is set up and maintained to properly document all project information, and to generate draft reports as needed.
  • Prepare all necessary documentation as required by the ENRICH Project Director related to program activities.
  • Support the ENRICH Project Director in the management and tracking of program budgets, milestones and reports.
  • Compile and draft narrative and financial reports to the donor.
  • Ensure that the contracts database is regularly updated, and regular relevant reports are generated.

5. Supervisory Responsibilities
 
No staff supervisory responsibilities.
 
6. Education / Professional Designations / Experience
  • University degree is essential; a qualification in a discipline related to international development, nutrition and/or public health is highly desirable.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in project management in Public Health, Nutrition or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in grant management
  • Experience in the provision of technical assistance an asset.
  • Field experience in a developing country and/or experience in a cross-cultural environment an asset.
7. Language Skills
  • Fluency in English.
  • Knowledge of French (and/or other languages) is desirable.
8. Travel Requirements
  • Up to 20% international and local travel will be required (e.g. participation in ENRICH annual work planning and knowledge sharing workshops)
9. Other Specific Skill Requirements
