Program Director Job in Nairobi Kenya

Georgetown University Initiative

Vacancy: Program Director for the Zusha! road safety campaign

About gui2de-East Africa: The Georgetown University Initiative on Innovation, Development, and Evaluation’s research office in Nairobi, Kenya - gui2de-East Africa - administers a broad variety of research projects, in areas as diverse as road safety, mobile money and financial inclusion, education reform, agricultural finance, and maternal health.

The office attracts funding from partners such as the US Agency for International Development, the UK’s Department for International Development, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and the World Bank, as well as other sources.

The office is immediately hiring a Program Director for the Zusha! road safety campaign, a road safety awareness intervention based on data generated from two previous research trials undertaken and evaluated by Georgetown University professors James Habyarimana and William Jack.

In that work, stickers with messages empowering passengers of public service vehicles to demand, and receive, better service, were found to reduce accidents between 25-50% as measured through insurance claims data.

Based on the positive results of this simple and cost-effective intervention, USAID’s Development Innovation Ventures (DIV) granted an award to gui2de to facilitate a scale-up of the intervention in Kenya, and experimental trails in Uganda, Rwanda, and Tanzania.

The campaign has reached nearly all public service vehicles in Kenya through the USAID grant, and efforts are now underway to transition to a sustainable, locally-owned campaign.
