About Innovations for Poverty Action: Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA) is a non-profit research organization that creates and evaluates approaches to solving development problems.  

IPA disseminates the results of its evaluations to policymakers, practitioners, investors and donors around the world.
 
About the project: Early Learning in Private and Public Pre-Primary and Primary Schools (Kenya) project will compare learning outcomes in low cost private schools relative to other available options in the vicinity. 

There is tremendous growth and innovation in the low cost private school market and this project aims to use a randomized controlled trial to better understand the effectiveness of such schools relative to public school options. 

The Principal Investigators for this project are Anthony Keats (Wesleyan University), Michael Kremer (Harvard University) Isaac Mbiti (University of Virginia) and Owen Ozier (World Bank).
 
Innovations for Poverty Action is currently preparing for a phone call follow up survey to parents who applied to the UnitedWEREACH scholarship program.
 
About the Position: Reporting to the Field Manager, the Senior Field Officer will assist in data collection and supervision of FOs. 

The Senior Field Officer will work closely with fellow Senior Field Officers, Field Officers and with the management team. He/she will spend approximately all of his/her time in the office.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise a team of 5 field officers in the office/field, manage their work, and ensure that they are all following IPA survey protocols;
  • Managing data collection tablets/netbooks, charging, passwords and custody;
  • Verify that field officers have interviewed the right respondent;
  • Uploading all data collected by various groups to the server;
  • Back checking and editing activities of each team using tracking forms accurately and consistently, and give daily updates to the FM;
  • Do frequent and random spot checking in the office in order to monitor Surveyors;
  • Report consistent problems to the FM;
  • Promptly respond to contact from the FM or other IPA staff;
  • Perform other duties related to the project that may be assigned to him/her.
Qualifications:
  • A diploma or University degree in Education, Economics, or any other related field;
  • Minimum of 1-3 years working experience;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English;
  • Strong oral proficiency and basic grammatical knowledge of Kiswahili;
  • Good interpersonal skills; specifically, good at interacting with parents/teachers;
  • Ability to work with little or no supervision;
  • Previous experience (at least one year) in any of these positions;
  • Computer literacy with proficiency in MS word and excel.
