Data Clerk
(1
Position)
The
Data Clerk will assist the Data manager and Study co-coordinator to:
- Enter
completed CRFs into the database
- abstract
data from the electronic management records
- compile
EMR data and enter data collected using hard copy CRFs into the database.
S/he
will perform data quality checks and resolve any issues that arise, communicate
and share with the data manager related to research data, and the investigators
in order to resolve errors.
The
data clerk will also perform cross tabulations and basic frequencies to ensure
completeness in all the datasets.
The
Data Clerk will be required to have the ability to develop an in-depth
understanding of study goals and its implementation.
Most
importantly, the Data Clerk, will work closely with the, Data manager, Study
Coordinator and the PIs.
Responsibilities
- Primary
responsibility will be the data abstraction and data entry of the study
data.
- Maintain
the central database by compiling all data from the study sites.
- Conduct
predetermined frequent data quality checks and come up with ways of
solving issues arising from this
- Assist
in coming up with a data quality protocol to be used for quality checks
and assurance for databases under data management.
- Assist
in the testing/piloting of encounter forms and databases.
- Keep
data log book of data entry queries and inconsistencies
- Coordinate
the data-checking process and produce reports on the data quality
- Present
weekly and monthly reports of data entry reports.
- Prepare
monthly summary tables of the data collection progress.
- With
guidance of the data Manager, initiate and perform data cleaning and
ensure consistency among all the datasets.
- Respond
to any new requests for data related to specific research and cleaning
activities.
- Back-up
all central data as predetermined
- Coordinate
the movement of data sheets and data files between the study sites and the
office
- If
problem arise, work with the Data Manager and the study coordinator to
develop a solution.
Qualification
and Experience:
- A
diploma or degree in statistics / Biostatistics, epidemiology, Computer
Science, Information technology
- Experience
in database design and implementation, data collection and collation,
archiving, and data cleaning.
- At
least one-year experience in data collection, data entry and cleaning.
- Ability
to manipulate data in Microsoft Excel is a must.
Desirable
Qualities:
- Ability
to identify significant changes in data.
- Excellent
demonstrated organizational skills
- Good
oral and written communication skills
- Willingness
to take initiative and improve datasets based on well thought out and
tested trials
- Ability
to work under varying levels of pressure
- Proficiency
in data interpretation and manipulation of data; knowledge of Excel and
STATA
- Experience
in a research setting will be an added advantage.
Terms
of Employment: Three
months contract as per KEMRI scheme of service with a possibility of extension
depending on availability of funds and demonstrated competence.
Remuneration: Compensation is negotiable within a relevant grade, based on educational levels, relevant experience and demonstrated competency. The salary scheme is based on the KEMRI salary scales.
