Title: Accountant in
Mombasa
Job
Summary: The
job holder shall play a central role of ensuring the integrity of accounting information
by researching Finance issues for compliance and by establishing quality
control over financial transactions and financial reporting.
Main Duties
Main Duties
The
following duties and responsibilities are attributed to this position:
- Verifying,
allocating, posting and reconciling transactions
- Producing
error-free accounting reports and presenting their results
- Analyzing
financial information and summarizing financial status
- Providing
technical support in Finance aspects
- Reviewing
and recommending modifications to accounting systems and procedures
- Participating
in financial standards setting and in forecast process
- Providing
input into department’s goal setting process
- Assisting
in preparing financial statements and producing budgets according to
schedules
- Assisting
in directing internal and external audits to ensure compliance
- Supporting
month-end and year-end close process
- Assisting
in developing and documenting business processes and accounting policies
to maintain and strengthen internal controls
- Preparing
and recording asset, liability, revenue, and expenses entries by compiling
and analyzing account information
- Maintaining
and balancing subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, posting,
reconciling transactions; resolving discrepancies
- Maintaining
general ledger by transferring subsidiary accounts; preparing trial
balances; reconciling entries
- Summarizing
financial status by collecting information; preparing balance sheet,
profit and loss, and other statements
- Assisting
in completing external audit by analyzing and scheduling general ledger
accounts; providing information for auditors
- Avoiding
legal challenges by complying with legal requirements
- Securing
financial information by completing database backups
- Maintaining
confidentiality on Financial matters
- Updating
job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading
professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in
professional organizations.
- Any
other duties as may be allocated from time to time
Academic
& Professional Qualifications
- Bachelor’s
degree in Accounting/Finance/Business or equivalent
- Full
ACCA/CIMA/CPA (K) CA/ACA/equivalent qualification
- Membership
to recognized professional accounting body
- Skills
& Work Experience
- Minimum
5 years of relevant work experience, ideally from both accounting firm and
industry
- Working
knowledge of information systems / accounting software (ideally ERP)
- Proficiency
in the Microsoft Office Suite of Packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.)
- Knowledge
of financial control and cost accounting practices, including preparation
of management accounts, budgets, reconciliations
- Excellent
communication, interpersonal and team working skills
