Claims Officer

Reporting to the Principal Officer CCIA, the Claims Officer will be charged with the responsibility of ensuring that insurance claims are handled efficiently from end-to-end and that payment for valid claims is made to their policyholders. 



The role holder will also decide on the extent and validity of a claim, checking out for any potential fraudulent activity and averting such cases.

The Role

Specifically, the successful jobholder will be required to:
  • Develop the claims processes for motor and non-motor business on the Bancassurance manual and ensure that any claims policy changes agreed on are updated on the Bancassurance manual.
  • Analyze all claims before they are reported to insurance companies to ensure they have been fully and comprehensively documented and without loopholes.
  • Support product development initiatives and process improvements at the Agency and ensure each product has its own claims requirements and check list.
  • Develop a comprehensive SLA for both motor and non-motor claims to be signed by all insurance companies with review & renewal timelines in liaison with Strategists and ensure that all claims are settled within the set SLA timelines with insurance companies.
  • Update on a weekly basis the branches, staff and clients on the status of their claims in addition to maintaining a weekly schedule of all claims reported and when they are concluded.
  • Highlight any problematic claim immediately so that it’s sorted especially those that may require ex-gratia payments.
  • Train customers, DSR’s/ Bancassurance officers and bank staff on claims requirements and procedures
  • Provide a comprehensive monthly report on claims status, system issues pertaining to claims, trends analysis, and training gaps identified.
  • Ensure all products being rolled out by the Agency have customer friendly exclusions and excesses (both time & monetary excesses) in liaison with strategists.
  • Adhere to cost management initiatives aimed at ensuring the company and the Bank meet the desirable cost to income ratio in addition to ensuring that the company does not incur any costs related to non-compliance penalties and clients counter claims.
  • Manage direct customers relationships to support business growth especially in regard to managing claims processes and build relationships with Co-op Bank sales channels and support them to drive business with their customers
  • Actively promote the interests of the Co-op Bank Group with all stakeholders through effective relationship management.
Desired Skills and Experience
  • A bachelor’s degree in insurance or any other business related field from a recognized university. Possession of a professional qualification in insurance will be an added advantage.
  • 3 years relevant work experience in a similar role or as an insurance officer in a busy corporate organization with good understanding of Insurance business and the Bancassurance system.
  • Exposure to Insurance products in the bank set-up with knowledge of the Bank’s set standards, policies and the operating manual.
  • Personal organization and thoroughness coupled with the ability to work under minimum supervision with good Judgment and decision making skills.
  • Excellent report writing skills.
  • High integrity and strong ethical standards

Underwriting Officer

Reporting to the Principal Officer, the role holder will be responsible for supporting the delivery of Bancassurance business through facilitation of key duties in underwriting, handling queries from branches and adhering to the established SLAs and Memorandum of Understanding.
 
The Role
 
Specifically, the successful jobholder will be required to:
  • Drive growth in Bancassurance business across the bank channels and identify opportunities for, develop and deploy new products.
  • Develop Bancassurance manual and policies and procedures in terms of business operations as well as underwriting processes for motor and non-motor business.
  • Analyze underwriting documents before they are submitted to insurance companies to ensure they are fully and comprehensively documented without loopholes.
  • Ensure that all queries on technical insurance issues from customers are addressed promptly while providing technical guidance.
  • Ensure adherence to the Bancassurance manual policies and procedures and implementing immediately any actions/deficiencies highlighted by the Compliance & Audit reports.
  • Build relationships with Co-op Bank sales channels and support them to drive business with their customers and manage relationships with insurance companies to secure the best terms for Co-op Bank Group customers.
  • Ensure compliance with Insurance Regulatory Authority requirements and internal Procedures and Policies.
  • Train customers and Banks’ staff on underwriting/claim processes, requirements and procedures.
Skills, Competencies and Experience
 
The successful candidate will be required to have the following skills and competencies:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a Business related field with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in insurance business or as an Underwriting Officer in a corporate organization.
  • A professional qualification in insurance will be an added advantage
  • Knowledge of the basic principles and practices of bancassurance.
  • Strong business acumen and strategic thinking capacity with strong analytical and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a diversified set up and in a highly collaborative team environment.
  • Proven ability to respond quickly, independently and appropriately to competing priorities under tight deadlines, excellent analytical, interpersonal, communication and advocacy skills.
  • Knowledgeable in compiling data and preparing a variety of reports as well as ability to verify the accuracy of documents and information presented.

Reporting to the Head - Retail Banking Department, the role holder will be responsible for driving bancassurance business, defining the new products strategy, developing new products in response to demands from different customer segments and giving support to Relationship Managers in driving product sales as well as Lead the Head Office team in policies and offer advisory on insurance matters.

The Role
 
Specifically, the successful jobholder will be required to:
  • Develop Bancassurance business sales, marketing plans, and strategies as well as oversee the implementation of the same while ensuring growth of the bancassurance business within the Bank through retail and corporate customers.
  • Develop a good working relationship with all Bank departments, work very closely with internal departmental heads, relationship managers & credit analysts to generate insurance business and leads through their customers, to ensure exploitation of bancassurance potential within, and also act as the communicator between the Agency and the Bank departments on matters pertaining to insurance matters. This will also involve co-ordination of branch & departmental visits & regional meetings.
  • Manage relationships for corporate, SME clients & affinity business partners, organize for meetings, presentations, and review meetings with identified customers and Offer support to Relationship Managers (RMs) preparing to meet clients by providing relevant information and having product specialist accompany the RMs.
  • Generate monthly management reports pertaining to bancassurance business, the merits of the business influence on the Bank and any opportunities & challenges that have been identified.
  • Develop the branch network & bancassurance officers’ annual stretch targets and make continuous follow-ups with the branches to ensure that they are performing as per their set targets and monitor and ensure renewal of all Corporate, SME & retail business in the Bank’s books at a target of 90%.
  • Create tutorial material concerning portfolio that will be used in training the Agency staff as well as staff from other departments, these materials will also be used to train clients as necessary and ensure product development initiatives are fully implemented and cascaded to the branch officers.
  • Promote business growth by ensuring hassle-free business processes for our customers to boost their retention and achieve operational excellence in all aspects of procedures and processes undertaken to ensure satisfactory audit as well as ensure compliance with operations risk & rigor requirements while ensuring that the company does not incur any costs related to non-compliance, penalties and clients counter claims.
  • Ensure that branch officers are fully complying with the laid down processes and procedures in underwriting claims; follow the Retail end to end account opening & closure processes ensuring new accounts meet the minimum standards.
  • Adhere to cost management initiatives aimed at ensuring the subsidiary and the Bank meet the desirable cost to income ratio and continuously make recommendations on cost management initiatives.
  • Manage relationships with insurance companies to secure the best terms for the Agency’s customers and where need be, manage relationships with other external experts in addition to the counterparts at the insurance company, loss adjusters and lawyers.
  • Provide clear direction of the Co-op Bank’s objectives by translating business performance objectives and measures into clear, concise communication and actively promote the interests of the Co-op Bank Group with all stakeholders through effective relationship management.
  • Ensure compliance with Insurance Regulatory Authority requirements and with CBK guidelines on incidental business and actively manage compliance risks and advise on any developments in the industry.
Desired Skills and Experience
  • A Business related Bachelor’s degree and a Diploma in Insurance or an Associate of Certified Institute of Insurance.
  • A Minimum of 5 years’ working experience as an Insurance Business Manager or as a Bancassurance Manager in a corporate organization, with wide experience in general, life & medical underwriting with a reputable insurance company.
  • Innovative, with prior experience in product development. Has wide knowledge of the insurance industry and understands the Insurance Regulatory Authority requirements.
  • Excellent relationship management skills and business closure techniques.
  • Strong communication skills both in person and in writing with excellent presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with an ability to manage competing client demands.
  • Articulate, with strong interpersonal skills, analytical and professional with an enthusiastic attitude and focus on results.
  • A high aptitude and comfort level with technical environments.
  • Ability to work in a highly demanding environment and able to meet aggressive deadlines.
