Our client, a well-known company in
the logistics industry in Kenya is looking for an experienced, results-oriented
and energetic individual for the following position:
Position: Financial Controller
Duty Station: Mombasa
The job holder will proactively lead
and motivate the finance and accounting team, manage the day to day financial
operations, be responsible for coordination of budget preparation, budget
reviews and comparing actual performance with budgets and initiating corrective
measures and manage all finance and accounting activities in the Company.
This will include but is not limited
to monthly accounting, preparation of Financial Statements, Management Information,
Board reports etc.
The job holder is responsible for the
supervision of the Finance and Accounting team in the Company.
Main Duties
- Plan, direct, and organize the accurate and
timely reporting and forecasting of financial information for the Company
- Lead the process of preparing, consolidating
and reviewing budgets, forecasts and business plans every quarter and as
required. Coordinate annual Opex, Capex Budgets Preparation, finalization,
approval and periodic reviews
- Provide financial planning and analyses to
give tactical and strategic insight to the Management. Consolidation of
the Company’s strategic outlook and developing of the Company's planning
models. Develop and introduce financial models for use by the business
- Identify and implement business analysis
projects across the business. Create and leverage financial and operating
models for the various business projects.
- Prepare and present monthly financial reports
for the Board of Directors, ensuring clear, accurate and timely Financial
Statements (P&L’s, Cash Flows and Balance Sheets etc.) for the Company
- Set out clear financial guidelines for the
Company and ensure adequate internal controls are in place for every
aspect of the business
- Manage cash flows and working capital to
maximize the benefit to the Company
- Manage the annual auditing process and ensure
Company compliance with regulatory authorities with regard to tax
liabilities etc.
- Assist in the development of new business
plans or investment proposals and provide Executive Management with
financial information for decision making
- Review business processes, department
structures etc. and recommend changes to support better financial
management and profitability
- Liaise with banks for guarantees and other
facilities
- Review debtors and liaise with managers
regarding action plans for recovery
- Deliver clear, concise and timely management
reports and analyses that provide quality explanations of business
results, including quality presentations to the Board as and when required
- Preparation of the monthly and quarterly
finance requirements for internal and external reporting of management
accounting and budget variance analyses
- Responsible for liaison with the external
Auditors and the annual audit process
- Maintain procedures and systems of internal
control to protect safe stewardship and custody of assets and maintain the
integrity of the associated financial records
- Implement /upgrade systems, processes and
controls capable of delivering financial information in line with
international standards and of supporting the future growth of the
business
- Exercise strong and dynamic leadership of the
finance function to ensure a result orientated and motivated team Ensure
appropriate communication with departments and other support areas
- Lead and co-ordinate the ongoing development
and production of policies and procedures for the reporting systems
- Review proposed business plans as well as the
financial structure (financing needs)
- Coordinate with project managers, department heads
and other departments on matters of Finance
- Monitor actual receipts and expenditures to
budget throughout year (Budget variance analysis) and revise budget plans
if necessary
- Ensure Daily Operational Report and monthly
MIS preparation as per standard practices
- Monitor and analyze monthly, quarterly and
annual revenue & profit performance, identify gaps & suggest
corrective actions to management
- Monitor the Finance and Accounting team’s
performance, conduct appraisals, grow and develop the team members
- Any other duties as may be allocated from time
to time
Academic & Professional
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from a recognized
institution. MBA in Finance is an added advantage
- Must be a qualified chartered accountant (CA /
ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent qualification from other countries)
Skills & Work Experience
- A minimum of 7 years’ experience in a senior
financial supervisory or managerial position/similar capacity
- Ideally, experience currently working or
having worked in Uganda. Preference will be given to candidates who are
already working in Kampala and are settled there or having worked in East
Africa (Kenya/Tanzania)
- Ideally someone in the age rage 30 – 50 years.
Candidates who meet the other criteria specified here who fall outside
this preferred age range will also be considered
- Demonstrated Financial Leadership
- Broad commercial exposure (i.e. has worked for
at least 5 years post-qualification in the Industry in a Finance Manager /
Financial Controller / CFO capacity
- Candidates who have worked in (one of) the Big
Four audit firms and who have the experience required herein will also be
considered
- Strong technical/ educational expertise,
evidencing a strong financial reporting background
- Track record of proven performance and able to
add value in this capacity
- One who is willing to get his hands dirty and
not over-delegate
- Preference will be given to candidates who are
Ugandan citizens or East African citizens
- Advanced computer skills and have worked with
recognized finance systems
- Excellent command of written & spoken
English
- Ability to produce and interpret financial and
non-financial management information, provide content and insight to aid
the decision making and create efficiencies and solve complex problems
- Experience in handling compliance, tax, legal
and statutory matters, over and above day to day accounting activities
- Experience in working with ERP systems
