About Innovations for Poverty Action: is a non-profit organization dedicated to discovering and promoting effective solutions to global poverty problems.  

In close partnership with decision makers -- the policymakers, practitioners, investors, and donors working with the poor around the world -- IPA designs and evaluates potential solutions to poverty problems using randomized evaluations, the most rigorous evaluation method available. 

We also mobilize and support these decision makers to use these solutions to build better programs and policies at scale.
 
Position Overview: The Financial Bonds project is a new project, aimed at evaluating the new government ‘M-Akiba’ product. 

To this end, the project requires large scale data collection activities within Nairobi, and coordination with various partners on ground.

We are seeking Field Officers to assist in data collection and in recruitment of eligible households. Baseline and follow up survey data will be collected through various instruments including listing data and electronic surveys. 

The Field Officer will work closely with fellow Field Officers, and with the management team. He/She will spend approximately 90% of his/her time in the field and 10% in the office.

The Field Officers are expected to be team players, and coordinate with their supervisors (the Senior Field Officers, Associate Field Managers and Field Managers), to ensure that the data collected is of the highest quality.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Arrive at work on time;
  • Complete scheduled activities each day in a timely manner;
  • Demonstrate integrity and understanding during interaction with community members and partner organization staff;
  • On non-field days, perform office duties with care (for instance translation work, which will be taught as needed);
  • Assist in daily survey organization and storage;
  • Ensure data integrity is maintained at all times and minimize errors in data collection;
  • Administer household and pupil surveys;
  • Administer pupil assessment tests;
  • Distribute vouchers and find eligible schools;
  • Provide the FM/AFMs with daily feedback regarding surveying activities
Qualifications:
 
Required
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in both English and Kiswahili.
  • Experience with data collection through household surveys, academic tests, exit interviews, focus groups or observations;
  • Ability to recognize when questions are difficult or unclear to subjects;
  • Good interpersonal skills; specifically good at interacting with children;
  • Excellent note taking ability during interviews;
  • Comfortable with interviewing individuals within their homes;
  • Basic computer knowledge and skills (mandatory);
  • Ability to comfortably work with groups and within groups.
Desired:
  • Bachelors’ degree or college diploma in social sciences and education;
  • Past experience in data collection – show proof of this in application;
  • Experience in data collection using Open Data Kit (ODK) / SurveyCTO;
  • Experience working with an education-field project is an added advantage.
