Assistant Accountant Job in Nairobi Kenya

Biovision Africa Trust (BvAT), a not-for-profit organisation established in Kenya in 2009 by the Swiss-based Biovision Foundation for Ecological Development, is situated on the main campus of the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (icipe) in Kasarani, Nairobi. 

The Trust’s goal is to alleviate poverty and improve the livelihoods of smallholder farmers in Kenya and other African countries, through dissemination of information and knowledge on appropriate technology, to improve human, animal, plant, and environmental health. 

BvAT supports the Biovision Farmer Communication Programme and other agro-based initiatives in Africa.

 
BvAT is seeking to recruit a qualified person for the following vacant position:

Assistant Accountant

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Maintain the general ledger accounts by monitoring journal entry preparation; preparing monthly accruals and entries and reconciling accounts monthly.
  • Preparation of monthly payroll in liaison with Finance Manager and HR and Admin Officer and reconciling the payroll control ledgers.
  • Assist with the preparation of financial statements and support schedules according to corporate time lines.
  • Preparation of Accounts Payable, including processing invoices, following up with vendors and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Processing employee expense reports, verifying expenses are within the Organization guidelines, correcting errors, questioning abnormal expenses and entering into the finance system.
  • Filing of programme financial support documents/payment documents
  • Assisting with monthly and year end tasks
  • Assist with preparation of audit Schedules for external & internal audits
  • Perform other related duties as may be required and assigned by supervisor.
Education and Knowledge:
  • Bachelor of Commerce (Finance/Accounting Option)
  • CPA Part II or ACCA Part II
  • Minimum 3 years working experience in a demanding environment or an International organization, on general accounting ledger and financial reporting.
  • Experience in preparation of payroll
  • Knowledge and proficiency in finance/ accounting principles;
  • Must have the ability to plan and work with limited supervision
  • Experience in Pastel Evolution
