 Chief Program Officer.

Reporting To: Group Chief Executive Officer

Physical Location: Nairobi
 
Supervises: County Directors, Director of Regional Projects and Field Offices

Main Purpose of Job:- The job holder will oversee all country programs and health program operations of Amref Health Africa.

Principal Responsibilities
 
 
Management Oversight to Country and health program operations
  • Support effective implementation of all country programs at the country level
  • Oversee mobilization and deployment of technical support to country programs
  • Coordinate capacity building for Country SMT to ensure compliance with  organisational policies and procedures  and donor rules and regulations
  • Develops & strengthens regional level networks and partnerships
  • Oversees documentation and lessons sharing across the countries,  regional projects and field offices.
  • Ensure efficient and effective use of donor and organisation resources at the country level according to the principles of Value For Money
  • Coordinate and oversee continuous country program oversight and support including setting up of a continues quality improvement (CQI) system for the country projects and programs
Strategic Program Leadership
  • Take lead in the assessment and set-up of new country offices in Africa
  • Work closely with Group CEO, Business Development Director and ENA offices on new business development by identifying opportunities as well as growing the teams writing capacity
  • Oversee and Chair the Proposals Reviews Committee to drive strategic program growth
  • Coordinate capacity building for Country SMT and for compliance to organisation SOP and donor rules and regulations
  • Develops regional level networks and partnerships
  • Oversees documentation and lessons sharing for regional projects
International Board of Directors
  • Support committees of the board as assigned
  • Inform the Group CEO of progress and related matters.
  • Develop a positive and effective working relationship with members of the Board of Directors and Board Committees
Supervision and HR Management 
  • Develops performance objective with direct supervisees (Field office managers, managers of regional projects) and ensure that each team member has realistic work objectives
  • Completes mid-term and year-end evaluations for staff he/she supervises; reviews, ensure submission of performance management forms within time frame
  • Provide support to staff and promotes team spirit, conducting periodic meetings with staff to ensure good relationship and communication
Advocacy
  • Ensure the continued leadership of Amref Health Africa in advocacy efforts with national government
Required Qualifications

Education:
 Masters degree in relevant field in Public Health or other relevant field.

Experience:
 10 years’ experience in leading international health development organization and at least six years’ experience as a director or manager of programs or their equivalent.

Environmental Conditions

Work Environment:
 Office with frequent travel

Hours of Work:
 Normal working hours (However, the nature of the job from time to time entails some after hours and weekend work)
