Role Overview: Working across one or more regions to support county offices in the design, development, implementation, and review of youth programmes (including ICS).
To promote and contribute to knowledge sharing, learning and innovation in youth programming and support country offices in the promotion of effective programmatic work involving national and international youth volunteers.
To use knowledge and expertise in youth programming to represent and share VSO’s youth programming externally and support fundraising activities.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience Required

Skills, Qualifications and Experience Required
Essential Criteria
Knowledge / Qualifications:
- A good standard of general education, ideally
to graduate level or equivalent.
- Understanding of current issues and trends in
youth programming and Volunteering for Development.
Experience:
- Experience of direct work in youth programming
in the South; supporting planning and implementation of programmes at all
levels. Experience of working in a developing country.
- Experience of project management including
planning, review, and evaluation of community-based development work.
- Experience of supporting youth programme
design, development, implementation and evaluation and measuring impact in
a development context
- Experience of work on programmes which utilise
youth volunteers.
Skills / Abilities:
- Analytical thinking and ability to plan
strategically from an organisational perspective.
- Able to adapt communication style to different
contexts and audiences, including internal and external stakeholders,
presents complex information in a user-friendly way, both verbally and in
writing.
- Able to handle complex workload including
doing own administration.
- Commitment to VSO’s vision, purpose and
values, particularly inclusion along lines of gender, disability and HIV
status.
- Team working skills: able to build strong
working relationships across a large complex global area, and work
collaboratively as a member of several teams. Able to motivate, manage and
develop colleagues; self motivated.
- Written and spoken fluency in English.
- Willingness to work some unsocial hours,
including evenings and weekends. Also to travel internationally up to 12
weeks per year.

Role Overview: To provide methodological support and strategic
insight to programme development and strategic oversight to programme/project
development in the the Africa region to ensure that our interventions are pro
poor, evidence based and transformational in addressing exclusions that result
in poverty, are accountable and are based on the 3 elements of sustainable
development (social, economic and environmental coherence).
Skills, qualifications and experience
required
Essential
- At least 10 years progression in the
development, implementation and management of participatory development programmes.
- At least 5 years hands on experience of
working through participatory development methodologies as a practitioner
and as a strategist.
- Skills in facilitating a range of key
development processes as a practitioner and a trainer e.g. Gender analysis,
poverty analysis, stakeholder mapping, social exclusion analysis, value
for money analysis, environmental impact assessment, social impact
assessment, economic impact assessment and intervention analysis.
Participatory rapid appraisal, participatory action research,
participatory monitoring and evaluation and other participatory
methodologies.
- Experience of working effectively with
theories of change.
- Demonstrable capacity in communicating
strategy, models and change processes visually, as presentations and as
written narratives.
- Knowledge of the Africa social, economic and
environmental context.
Desirable
- Experience of working in Africa.
- Thematic expertise in one or more of VSOs key
programmes areas would be an advantage: education, health, secure livelihoods,
participation and governance, gender or climate change.
