The Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) is a company licensed by the Capital Markets Authority (CMA) to facilitate the trading of financial products through the provision of a trading platform for listed securities. 

In line with this mandate, the NSE is seeking to recruit a qualified, dynamic, self- motivated and results- oriented individual to fill the following position:
 

Front Office Administrator
 
Overall Purpose: To serve as the first contact for NSE clients, providing information regarding activities conducted at the NSE and facilitating efficient delivery of services.


Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide hospitality to the NSE visitors.
  • Man the switchboard, record all trunk and mobile calls made through the switchboard, and facilitate internal and external billing.
  • Receive, record and coordinate distribution of all incoming mail and ensure that all mail is handed in to the CE’s Office in good time.
  • Timely scanning of all public material information from the listed companies, immediately it is received at the NSE.
  • Ensure that the reception lobby is clean, tidy and has up to date publications.
  • Oversee office cleaning of the ground floor area.
  • Replenish the visitors’ passes for the security team.
  • Facilitate booking of the trading floor calendar and facilitate arrangement of the hall.
  • Providing information and taking of messages on behalf of staff not at their desks at any given time.
  • Keep record and ensure distribution of newspapers to respective recipients in conjunction with the security officers and follow up on newspapers or magazines not received.
  • Prepare weekly reception reports and when there is something urgent to report, do this immediately.
  • Maintain a daily attendance record of interns.
  • Maintain a record book for weekly flowers replenishment, plants and bins change.
  • Receive list of cheques for collection and unpresented cheques list from Finance department and call the firms for collection of their cheques as well as regular follow up with the companies that have not presented their cheques at their bank to do so.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and/or Diploma in Front Office Management or equivalent focusing on management.
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience gained in a busy administration department and preferably in Front Office Operations.

Financial Accountant

Overall Purpose:
 To receive and maintain accounting documents and records, prepare summaries, reconciliations and reports ensuring that all general ledger accounts are managed as per approved financial policies and procedures.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Cash and bank management which includes petty cash imprest management, staff per diems, maintaining accurate bank records, delivery of bank instructions, prompt banking of receipts.
  • Management of receivables and payables including invoicing, receipting of payments, reconciliation and regular follow up and reporting on outstanding amounts.
  • Management of disposal of fixed assets and stores identified for disposal
  • Ensure that financial and accounting documents are properly filed, secured and readily accessible for action.
  • Ensure that statutory payments and all returns (VAT, withholding tax, payroll and others) are done on time.
  • Assist in NSE budget and periodic forecasts preparation.
  • Assist in monthly financial statements preparation including departmental accounts and related reconciliations.
  • Assist in the preparation for and during statutory audits.
  • Assist in review and renewal of non-staff insurance covers.
  • Prepare accurate and timely ASEA financial accounts - includes preparation of journals, proper maintenance, storage and security of bank, financial and accounting documents in order to ensure that they are properly filed, secured and readily accessible for action.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Commerce, Business Administration, Economics, Finance or a related field.
  • Professional qualifications such as CPA, ACA, ACCA, ACMA or equivalent membership.
  • Minimum four (4) years’ experience in a relevant financial organisation focusing on financial management of organisational resources.
Key Competencies
  • Knowledge of accounting, budgeting and procurement principles and practices; financial and strategic planning, banking, accounting and financial management including planning, forecasting, budgeting and taxation;
  • Knowledge of principles, methods and practices of accounting, budgeting as well as procurement policies and procedures;
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills including ability to prepare relevant reports;
  • Ability to resolve problems in a timely manner, gather and analyse information skilfully, develop alternative solutions, work well in group problem solving situations and reason when dealing with emotional topics;
  • Ability to maintain professional status, high integrity and keep abreast of evolving trends in financial management of organisational resources through continuing professional development;
  • Proficiency in computer applications such as Microsoft office including financial packages.

Information Systems Auditor
 

Overall Purpose: Reporting to the Head of Internal Audit, the Information Systems Auditor will give objective and independent assurance to management that the Information systems in place are appropriate, well utilized, reliable and secure while giving commensurate recommendations on areas of improvement.


Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform Information Systems audits, both technical and end-user of the Exchange’s systems in line with internal audit methodology, processes, procedures and timeframes;
  • Ensure that access to electronically stored corporate information is adequately protected and managed appropriate to the risks, and further Identify and analyse level of threat and potential risk to the organization’s IS assets;
  • Test adequacy and effectiveness of systems control measures within the Exchange on a regular basis and recommend corrective measures to be undertaken in areas of weaknesses identified;
  • Review and conduct systems audit of the trading systems, internal accounting systems and other systems at the Exchange, test systems’ control procedures for their adequacy, effectiveness and reliability and making follow up on the systems audit recommendations to ensure that they are implemented;
  • Develop and maintain the skills, knowledge and expertise to make valuable contribution to the Internal Audit team and be part of the automated audit systems processes;
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to ensure that the most important audit risks are being mitigated and that expectations are being met or exceeded;
  • Assist the Head of Department in conducting other departmental audits; and
  • Assist the Head in developing the department’s budget and monitoring expenses against the budget to ensure that funds are optimally utilised.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in business related field coupled with a professional certification in IT Audit, Risk and Security e.g. CISM, CISSP, CISA, CRISC.
  • Minimum four (4) years relevant professional experience in Systems Audit role gained from an organization with strong internal control framework, preferably financial institutions.
  • Knowledge of risk assessment & control concepts /methodologies is an absolute advantage.
  • Robust analytical, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge in audit tools & techniques including process mapping, control identification & analysis and design of audit tests.
  • High attention to detail, accuracy and risk awareness; and
  • Dynamic self-starter with the ability to work independently as well as be a solid team player.
Key Competencies
  • Exposure to the financial services industry is essential;
  • Working knowledge of varied systems and information systems audit will also be a plus;
  • Familiar to internationally driven standards relating to financial market infrastructures;
  • An appreciation of global risks and their impact on local economic dynamics: and
  • Dynamic self-starter with the ability to work independently as well as be a solid team player.

Head of Cash Markets
 
Overall Purpose: A senior management position with key responsibilities in driving business, the development and implementation of new cash products and markets and the management of information services for the Nairobi Securities Exchange.


Responsible for providing market research input towards the development and implementation of new cash products, new listings and markets. In addition educate the public purposely to increase awareness about NSE and its products to boosting NSE’s business.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist in enhancing the growth of existing cash products and developing new cash products and markets in a sustainable and profitable way;
  • Responsible for driving significant revenue growth on all key cash products and services of the Exchange;
  • Maintain a robust and qualified new-business pipeline as needed to adequately support the revenue and profit objectives while ensuring the integrity and accuracy of forecasted revenues;
  • Responsible for the diversification and generation of new revenue from new cash products and services;
  • Provide research and technical input for the development of cash products, new listings and cash markets under the NSE Strategic Plan;
  • Work with other departments to input value added features in new cash products and enhance existing cash products in line with market demands establish, build, and maintain positive and professional relationships will various stakeholders;
  • Analyse market information and performance statistics data to forecast market opportunities, identify competitor threats and anticipate potential need to modify business plans;
  • Define business opportunities and research alternate solutions, including options, risks, costs versus benefits, and impact on other business processes and system priorities;
  • Provide methodology for setting market goals and allocating them to the area and location levels; and
  • Provide high level relationship management to all Investment Banks and Advisors regarding the listing of equity and debt products.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Studies, Economics, Finance or Information Technology or similar disciplines from a reputable university. Master’s degree would be an added advantage.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Exchange’s products, trading rules and procedures.
  • Minimum seven (7) years working experience as a market researcher, business/ investment analyst, product/business development officer in a financial market.
  • Proficiency in computer application and statistical packages.
