Independent business consultants are sought in Nairobi who can arrange direct meetings for manufacturers and suppliers to meet with buyers and decision-makers in supply chains with real prospect of concluding business deals.

Consultant’s fees would be paid direct by the manufacturers / suppliers. 

The fee would be a fixed fee of $600 from each supplier / manufacturer assisted to meet the right buyers. 

The work involved in each case would be around 3-4 person days. 

The Consultant objective and purpose is:
  1. To provide in-market preliminary market research, and (based on initial identification of market potential)
  2. To then identify decision-makers in the appropriate supply and distribution chain for the products or services of suppliers, who have reasonable possibility to do business with the supplier, and
  3. To generate real and genuine interest by those decision-makers to meet with and discuss terms of business with the suppliers, then
  4. Programme direct one to one meetings between those buyers/ decision-makers in the supply/distribution chain and the suppliers. (These meetings would be in-person face to face meetings in the premises of the buyer/supply/distribution chain businesses).
  5. Provide administrative, logistical support (and where necessary to provide or arrange interpretation/language support) to both supplier and buyer decision-makers to attend and conduct such meetings.
Output: The expected output of the consultant will be a successful Sales Mission for a group of up to 12 companies at a time or by individual companies choosing to visit one at a time.

Success will be judged by sales achieved during the mission or visit and a realistic company estimate of probable business arising within 12 months.

Responsibilities
 
Market Research
 
The consultant will be responsible for execution of the market research and sales mission or individual visits by suppliers to the market. 

Specifically they will:
  • Prepare a short briefing note (4 – 5 pages) on the structure of the market for services and  manufactured goods including food and processed food products in their market with emphasis on imports and distribution systems, noting import restrictions, regulations and local quality and product certification or registration requirements and any other potential barriers to trade which can be encountered.  This will be submitted to the supplier at least one week prior to the commencement of the market research.
  • Prepare short (1-2) page note on the market prospects, channels, opportunities and potential issues for the specific supplier’s service/products/categories.
  • Identify potential contacts in the market place that may be suitable for the supplier companies.
  • Visit decision-makers in those identified buyer/supply chain/distribution chain companies, or other procurers such as NGO’s or government if those would be the main buyers.
  • Actively generate interest by those decision-makers with reasonable prospects to do business with the suppliers, to meet the suppliers
  • Write up briefly for suppliers the comments and feedback from all potential buyers/supply chain/distribution chain companies visited; especially pertinent comments as to:-
  1. why they are or are not interested or willing to meet the supplier,
  2. any other information on product adaptation/change considered appropriate or necessary for market entry
  3. comments regarding potential terms of trade,
  4. Promotional effort considered necessary in order to gain sales.
  • In the case of a group Sales Mission of 5 or more suppliers, which will have a central base in an appropriate venue, such as a hotel or Conference Hall, the consultant should identify and appropriately reserve such. 
  • Arrange accommodation and other support, e.g. transport, for the visiting suppliers.
  • Provide appropriate office and logistical support for visiting companies.
  • Prepare itineraries consisting of meeting schedule, contact details and directions to get to all buyers for the visiting suppliers coming to the market individually or on group Sales Mission, confirming each meeting in writing with the buyers.
  • Prepare a brief for each participant on the background and prospects for each appointment with identified target buyers.
  • Provide these last two in printed form according to template provided and bound in a folder.
Approximately six meetings will be arranged with interested buyers for each participant. 

The buyers will have been appropriately briefed by the consultant (during the consultant’s visit to them), on the product/service and commercial background of the exporter.  

Companies will be responsible for payment of all their own travel costs to the targeted city, ground transport to meetings, accommodation, subsistence etc. 

Consultants are free to offer their support to suppliers in arranging such local hotel and transport services and to earn commission from the local providers of those services.
