Debt Recovery Manager

Job Ref: HR: 69/06/2015 
 
Job Summary: Working closely with the Head of Credit, he /she will ensure compliance with internal credit policies and procedures, best practices and CBK prudential guidelines to facilitate management of credit risks within tolerable levels. 

The Job holder will execute the institution’s strategy in reducing the NPA portfolio as per laid out guidelines in the institution’s credit policy. 

He/ She will ensure that ALL approved and disbursed loans are fully repaid as stipulated in the terms and conditions to prevent loss to the institution due to non-repayments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project relevant trends that affect the collectibles of the portfolio and isolate potential problem areas
  • Monitor loan repayments globally and initiate/recommend course of action
  • Instruct and follow up with external service providers on NPA matters i.e. debt collectors, auctioneers etc.
  • Extract, confirm and transmit CRB information to licensed Credit Reference Bureau
  • Conduct client visits (on a need basis) and make telephone calls to follow up on payments from NPA debtors
  • Report on NPAs (Write offs, Collections, Security Cover etc.) on a regular predetermined basis and provide information for CBK reporting
  • Ensure one day arrears management for all disbursed loans is fully executed
  • Ensure a record is maintained to track recovery progress for all loans in arrears
  • Ensure weekly arrears and reports are prepared for all the branches and follow with them to ensure full repayment
  • Ensure demand letters are prepared and ensure that they are forwarded to the defaulting customers
  • Ensure reports are prepared and recommendations made on bad debts to be written-off to the management for approval
  • Ensure an up to date register on loan related insurance claims is maintained and ensure prompt reimbursement from underwriters
  • Monitor debt collection response cycles and contacts as well as credit control performance
  • Manage resource scheduling and the determination of priority of work and procedures to maximize production output and success levels.
  • Report and monitor all risks associated with debt recovery
  • Generate compliance reports for use in decision making and performance appraisals
  • Do any other duties that may be assigned by the Management
Requirements:
  • He or she should be a holder University Degree in Business studies.
  • 5 years’ experience in credit and debt recovery
  • Knowledge in credit management and banking is an obvious advantage
  • Knowledge on Law relating to banking
  • Practical experience in lending and recovery

Position: Head of Small & Medium Enterprise (SME) Banking

Job Summary:
 Reporting to the General Manager - Business Development, the job holder will be responsible for business development & growth of the Small & Medium Enterprises (SME) portfolio by working closely with Senior Management, Leadership team, Branch Management teams, Credit and other stakeholders in the Bank.
 
Responsibilities
  • Implement of the SME business strategy in line with the Bank’s overall strategy and business growth plan
  • Work closely with stakeholders in Senior Management, Leadership team, Branch Management teams and Credit to increase market share of the SME segment in terms of customer numbers, products and service consumption and revenues while proactively reducing the non-performing loan book
  • Drive sales through effective leadership, guidance and performance management process within the branch network and relationships
  • Working directly with Branches and SME officers to drive account utilization and hence cheap and stable deposits
  • Drive transactional income from SME clients through effective customer service and cross selling the entire range of banking and bancassurance products and services
  • Identify and capitalize on new market opportunities to expand presence, competitiveness and profitability by proactively selling products and services
  • Improve the business environment and raising the profile for the SME business segment in the Bank
  • Establish profitable banking relationships with SME clients by providing high quality banking and other financial services to SMEs where the Bank operates
  • Advise the Bank on SME market analysis and segmentation with regards to SME financial products, SME credit Risk evaluation processes, loan monitoring, collections and debt recovery procedures
  • In liaison with other stakeholders, ensure quality portfolio by effective identification of risks and their mitigations
  • Represent the Bank and business unit in forums, meetings and fast track the implementation of the relevant agreed action points

Qualifications and Experience
  • A degree in a business related field i.e. Bachelor of Commerce, Business Studies, Economics or Banking/Finance
  • Formal training in lending/Relationship management
  • At least 7 years of managerial experience with proven track record for delivery of superior results

Head of Treasury

Job Summary: Reporting to the General Manager, Finance, and the Head of Treasury will provide efficient and effective delivery of the full range of treasury products and effectively lead the Assets Liability Management (ALM) to achieve the desired business growth and profitability targets.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute strategies for investment of surplus funds in treasury bills, bonds and other money market instruments
  • Manage the dealing activity end to end so as to ensure that all the bank’s interests are protected at all times and financial targets are met
  • Ensure that the bank meets all external and internal liquidity requirements and that proper contingency plans are in place to address excess and deficient liquidity incidences in line with the Bank policy and procedures
  • Develop innovative treasury products that will enable the bank grow its’ money market and foreign exchange volumes and revenues
  • Actively identify and market clients with potential to grow revenues from sales of treasury products and services
  • Ensure that the bank credit limits with counterparties are observed at all times
  • Build, foster and maintain relationships with counterparties, lenders and other stakeholders
  • Lead and manage the treasury function team and their performance with the view of ensuring proper positioning and leveraging of the function’s human resources
  • Participate in Management meetings as may be appropriate including but not limited to ALCO, Products Committee, ExCo and others
Required Qualifications
  • University business degree from a recognized institution preferably in Economics, Finance, Statistics or Commerce
  • A Master’s degree will be an added advantage
  • Professional Certification e.g. CPA/ACCA, ACI (Financial Markets Association)
  • Eight years working experience, 3 of which must have been in a senior role within the treasury function
  • Demonstrable skills/know how in dealing, financial analysis and knowledge of financial markets

Job Summary: Working closely with the Senior Relationship Officer, the job holder should endeavor to grow a high quality SME client portfolio both in cheap, Stable deposits and loans and manage all client relationships to ensure world class customer service and maximum returns.
