Program Assistant Job in Kenya

The Alliance (LCA) is a local civil society organization delivering programs in healthcare, education, and economic development in rural Migori County. 

The mission of the organization is to build the capacity of the people of the area to advance their own comprehensive well-being. 

The core values of LCA include flexibility, integrity, neighbourliness, determination and dignity. In the last 8 years, the young organization has experienced rapid growth in programs, funding, and public platform. 

Most notably, the organisation’s Community Hospital has tripled in size and now serves more than 2,500 patients a month; the Kenyan team has grown from 7 to 140; and the education program is reaching out to 13 schools in the region. 

The organization has received recognition through the Clinton Global Initiative, Apple, Citizen TV, ABC World News, CNN, and the film Sons of Lwala, which documents the program founding.

LCA is currently engaged in a partnership with Worldreader to implement an e-reader program in 3 area primary schools of North Kamagambo Location Migori County. 

LCA anticipates that the eReader program will help improve literacy skills among upper primary school pupils and improve learning outcomes in the area. 

The program is set to be rolled out in January 2016 with preparations beginning in September 2105.

The organization is seeking to employ qualified, experienced, and motivated Program Assistant to implement the eReader program in 3 area primary schools and the Youth Friendly Corner under education program. 

The Position is available for an initial 1 year contract renewable subject to satisfactory performance by the job holder and availability of funds.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the preparation process, including school selection, policy development, work plan development, construction of storage facilities, and other logistics for the eReaders.
  • Train and continuously assist teachers in implementing the eReader program in the classroom
  • Manage the day-to-day activities of the eReader program in 3 primary schools
  • Manage the eReader library at the youth-friendly corner
  • Support the pupils participating in the eReader program
  • Track, measure and report progress of the eReader program and the activities and outcomes in each classroom and in the library
  • Troubleshoot technology and management issues within the schools and youth friendly corner.
  • Perform any other tasks assigned by the education program coordinator.
Skills and Abilities
  • A diploma in Education, ICT or related subject areas
  • MUST have strong skills in applying ICT (information, communications and technology) in Education.
  • Ability to plan, implement and manage a new program
  • Good record-keeping and information management skills
  • A participatory and innovative teacher who enjoys working with children and primary school teachers
  • Good communication skills, report writing and presentation skills
  • Ability to work in teams and go beyond the call of duty.
Experience
  • Experience implementing a project in a rural setting
  • Experience working with primary schools, including pupils, teachers and head teachers in a rural setting is a MUST.
  • Experience working with children
  • Experience implementing ICT in a rural setting
