Job Title: Driver / Care Assistant 

Location: Various

Reporting to: Regional Coordinators

Probationary Period: 3 months

This post reports to the Travel and Transport Officer and within the Corporate Services Department. The position holder is responsible for driving team members, visitors or any other persons as maybe requested by the Travel and Transport Officer. 

Additionally she/he is responsible for the maintenance and taking good care of his/her assigned vehicle, under the supervision of the line supervisor. 

In liaison with the Logistics Officer ensure that MSK vehicles are well maintained at a high standard

Overall aim of the Corporate Services department in relation to MSK strategy: Logistical, admin and HR support to all MSK staff and their work to ensure that it is supported to realise efficiencies, compliance and quality.
 
The primary responsibility of this role is to further our Goal: THE PREVENTION OF UNWANTED BIRTHS and its mission of ensuring the individuals right to: CHILDREN BY CHOICE NOT CHANCE

Key Responsibilities and Measures

Key Responsibilities:
  • Execution of assigned tasks in the daily running of the coast region programmes and clinics
  • Adherence to road safety and regulations
  • Conduct vehicle inspection regularly
  • Assist in repair and maintenance of the MSK vehicles
  • Reporting of accidents and incidents
Measures
  • General observation of traffic rules by the drivers and passenger
  • Smooth running of the coast region operations
  • Timely accident and incident reporting
  • Timely maintenance of the MSK vehicles
Execution of assigned tasks in the daily running of the coast region programmes and clinics

Activities include:
  • Driving MSK vehicles as maybe assigned to specific destinations.
  • Collecting or delivering of goods, supplies, documents, mails, as maybe assigned
  • Ensure MSK vehicles are solely used for official/authorised business
  • Drive MSK team members and visitors to specified destinations for example field, meetings, airport pickups and drop offs etc
Measures
  • Timely and smooth running of the Coast region operations
  • Use of MSK vehicles for the authorised business only
  • No misuse of the MSK vehicles
  • Timely delivery and collection of items
Adherence to road safety and regulations
 
Activities include:
  • Always possess a valid and up to date driving license.
  • Always observe traffic rules and regulation as well as the passengers
  • Ensure safety of all passengers on board MSK vehicles
  • Ensure safety and security of all cargo, documents, mails, or materials to be delivered.
Measures
  • 100% compliance to the traffic rules for example no talking on phone while driving, no drunk driving, use of safety belt etc
  • 100% safety of the passengers and the MSK property
Conduct vehicle Inspection regularly
 
Activities include:
  • Inspect the vehicle/motorbike every morning before departure.
  • Check daily status of tyres, brakes, engine oil, dents etc.
  • Always check and keep safe vehicle refuelling cards since they form part of Accountable documents.
  • Ensure Vehicle insurance is up to date, life savers and fire extinguisher is available and in order.
  • Ensure the vehicle assigned to is always clean and tidy
Measures
  • MSK vehicle is clean and tidy at all times
  • Compliance to the fuelling procedures.
  • All vehicles’ legislative requirements are up to date and available.
  • Reduced vehicle breakdowns by conducting mandatory daily checks.
Assist in repair and maintenance of the MSK vehicles
 
Activities include:
  • Report promptly any defects or malfunction that require immediate attention to the Logistics officer.
  • Ensure that MSK Vehicles are only be attended to at MSK prequalified Garages.
  • Comply strictly with vehicle servicing schedules and always book two weeks in advance for the same.
  • Maintain a duly signed vehicle log sheet at all times.
Measures
  • Timely vehicle servicing and maintenance using the necessary paper work and the prescribed garages.
  • Reduced vehicle breakdowns
  • Up to date and duly signed vehicle log sheets
Reporting of accidents and incidents
 
Activities include:
  • Report accidents/incidents immediately to the Travel & transport officer or the Logistics Officer
  • Further report to the nearest police station and obtain a Police abstract.
  • Secure all MSK property in the occurrence of an accident
Measures
  • Proper and timely reporting of incidents and accidents
  • Safety of the vehicle and MSK property
Knowledge,  skills and attitudes

Qualifications:
  • ‘O’ Certificate qualification.
  • Possess a clean and valid driving license (Class ABCE and G for motorcycle drivers)
  • Possess a certificate of good conduct.
  • Qualification in defensive driving and a certificate of competence from AA Kenya will be an added advantage.
Experience
  • Minimum of three (3) of driving experience in the same position.
Limit of authority
  1. May not act in a manner that is inconsistent with the aims, objectives and policies of Marie Stopes Kenya.
  2. May not commit Marie Stopes Kenya or its Country Director to financial or legal obligations without the authority of the Country Director.
  3. May not communicate with the news media and other organizations on any matter affecting the interests of the company without the prior approval of the Country Director.
  4. May not divulge confidential information relating to the affairs of the organization or its Country Director to unauthorized parties.
Skills/Experience:
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Good command of English and Swahili
  • Possess basic I.T skills
  • Security and safety minded
  • Willingness to work longer hours as maybe be required
