The Tusome Early Grade Reading Activity is focused on classroom support, teacher training and improved access to learning materials to improve the quality of early literacy instruction in formal and Alternative Provision of Basic Education and Training (APBET) schools through a national literacy intervention.

TUSOME Project Vacancy: Finance Manager


1 Position 

Location: Nairobi

Responsibilities

S/he will be responsible for leading the financial management and reporting system for the program and support the achievement of the program goals in a manner that is consistent with financial management principles. 

S/he will be responsible for maximizing the strategic use of accounting systems and maintain functions such as general accounting, financial tasks, and accounting records. 

This role will supervise the Project Finance Specialists and build their capacity on RTI Finance and Accounting; policies, procedures, processes and systems. 

He / She will ensure there is an effective segregation of duties and strong internal control that safeguard the project assets and consolidate the final preparation of the bi-weekly reports. 

The Finance Manager will ensure effective cash forecast and cash flow management and undertake the final review and consolidation of the project activity costs. 

Qualifications and Experience: 

  • MBA or M.Sc. with 6 years of relevant experience or a B.Com in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience. 
  • Candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in managing teams with the ability to work within a matrix organization. Sector related experience desired. 
  • Previous accounting experience, preferably on a donor funded program required.
TUSOME Project Vacancy: Finance Specialist

1 Position 

Location: Nairobi 

Duties

S/he will be responsible for day-to-day accounting functions of the programs in a manner that supports the efficient management of financial transactions and reporting. 

This function will be executed by ensuring proper documentation, accuracy and timely reporting, follow up on advances, support to finance and non-finance personnel and ensure adherence to policies. 

This role will also review the QuickBooks postings and ensure compliance with Internal Control requirements. 

In addition s/he will prepare activity budgets for project activities. 

Qualifications and Experience 
  • B.Com or B.Sc in Commerce, Finance or a related discipline with at least 6 years of relevant sector experience; a Master’s degree is a plus. 
  • Previous accounting experience, preferably on a donor funded program required. 
  • Knowledge of institutional accounting and budgeting practice is required.

1 Position

Location: Wajir

Duties
  • Drive project staff members, consultants and other visitors on office business. 
  • S/he will ensure that the vehicles have all required registrations, licensing and inspections, and that necessary documentation is maintained. 
  • S/he will maintain the vehicles’ cleanliness and its security and maintain a record of trips including kilometers traveled, fuel consumed and dates of oil changes, all according to established reporting framework. 
Qualifications and Experience: 
  • A minimum 5 years relevant experience with valid Kenyan driver’s license;
  • proof of good driving record. 
  • Previous work in the Not for Profit sector and familiarity of rural terrain preferred. 
  • Fluency in English and Kiswahili language required.

TAYARI Project Vacancy: Regional Education Program Officer (REPO)

1 Position

Location: Siaya County, Kenya

Role Profile: The Regional Education Program Officer will provide leadership and oversee all Tayari activities in Siaya County. 

The REPO will provide technical support for the development of teachers’ guide, pupils’ materials, and other related instructional materials. 

In addition, he /she will collaborate effectively with the county government, MOEST, MOH and TSC county officers, head teachers, teachers and other ECD stakeholders in the region to ensure quality programme implementation. 

Qualifications and Experience
  • B.A./B.Ed. and eight (8) years of experience in the education sector, 
  • M.A./M.Ed. preferred; 
  • understanding of scientifically-based pre-literacy and numeracy research; 
  • knowledge of a balanced early literacy framework; 
  • knowledge of Kiswahili and English transition instruction strategies; 
  • familiarity with the policies and procedures of the MoEST and local school communities. 
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite, 
  • strong presentation and facilitation skills.

TAYARI Project Vacancy: Education Program Specialist

1 Position

Location: Siaya County, Kenya

Role Profile: The Education Program Specialist is responsible for planning, coordinating and supervising Tayari trainings for District Centres for Early Childhood Education (DICECE) officers/coaches, head teachers and teachers in the implementation of pre-literacy, pre-numeracy and executive function skills for pre-primary children. 

The Education Program Specialist reporting to Regional Education Program Officer coordinates all the training activities in the region. 

In close collaboration with the county government, MOEST and TSC county officers, the Education Program Specialist organizes successful capacity building training programs, cluster meetings and classroom observations. 

The officer also provides mentorship and instructional support to DICECEs and instructional coaches. 

Overall the officer provides support for training at the regional level for effective implementation. 

Qualifications and Experience: 
  • Master’s Degree in education with 5 years or relevant experience or Bachelor’s Degree and 10 years of experience in developing teacher training curricula and coordinating teacher training activities and inputs. 
  • Significant experience in education development for literacy at early grade levels necessary, established working relationships with education government counterparts for improved literacy performance. 
  • Proven ability as a facilitator/trainer and willingness to travel to support training in field sites is required. 
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite, strong presentation and facilitation.

TAYARI Project Vacancy: IT Assistant 

1 Position

Location: Siaya County, Kenya

Role Profile: The IT Assistant will be responsible for first level support and deployment management for all end users in the assigned region across several counties. 

This person will play a key role in RTI strategic education initiatives and must thrive under tight deadlines. 

This role will serve as the focal point of contact in the region and will be responsible for IT related communications. 

He / She ensures that all software and hardware deployments are managed according to RTI policies, USAID regulations, standard operating procedures and good business practices. 

Required Qualifications and Experience: 

A BSc. Computer Science or related field with a minimum of five (5) years of technical support experience or Diploma in Computer Science with a minimum of seven (7) years technical experience. 

He/she will possess a record of successful large scale software and hardware installations with a wide range of hardware including tablets and mobile phones.

The suitable candidate will demonstrate experience in end to end applications testing, training and remote / end user support.

TAYARI Project Vacancy: Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Assistant
Location: Siaya County, Kenya

Role Profile: The M&E assistant will work closely with the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer and is responsible for supporting M&E initiatives for the program. 

She / he will; ensure accurate and valid data management, undertake data entry, and ensure that essential and ongoing M&E data is properly accounted for. 

The M&E Assistant will also oversee special studies, contribute to study reports, and submit scheduled reports. 

The person will provide direct assistance to build clients’ capabilities in M&E and act as a trainer of other technical assistance providers as needed. 

Required Qualifications and Experience: 
  • A BSc in Statistics or a related field with at least three (3) years of experience in Monitoring & Evaluation. 
  • Experience in M&E capacity building for individuals and organizations required. 
  • Previous M&E experience in a donor funded program desired. 
  • Proficiency in evaluation design and development of indicators; designing and conducting small-scale operations research studies; and 
  • good working knowledge of descriptive and inferential statistics required.

TAYARI Project Vacancy: Administrative Assistant

1 Position

Location: Siaya County, Kenya

Role Profile: The Admin. Assistant ensures that administrative systems in the field office are conducted according to; all RTI policies, client regulations, standard operating procedures and good business practice. 

In addition, the person provides reception, secretarial, administrative and logistics support management to the field staff. 

The person will facilitate effective communication between the Field Office, Project Office in Nairobi and its key clients and partners.  

Qualifications and Experience: 
  • A minimum of three (3) years relevant experience and a Higher Diploma in Administration or Secretarial studies; 
  • Additional qualification in office management, business management or accounting preferred. 
  • Experience in logistics management, organizing workshops and training courses, preparing, monitoring budgets and petty cash management in an international organization preferred. 
  • Experience within the Not for Profit sector and familiarity with donor reporting requirements is preferred.

TAYARI Project Vacancy: Driver

1 Position 

Location:
 Siaya County, Kenya

Job Profile: The driver will drive project and office staff members, consultants and other visitors on project and office business. 

The driver will ensure that the vehicles have all required registrations, licensing and inspections.

In addition the driver will ensure that necessary documentation is retained with the vehicle and the vehicle has sufficient amount of gas at all times. 

The person will maintain the vehicles’ cleanliness and its security and maintain a record of trips including kilometers traveled, fuel consumed and dates of oil changes, all according to established reporting framework. 

Qualifications and Experience: 
  • A minimum 5 years relevant experience with valid Kenya driver’s license;
  • proof of good driving record; 
  • Familiarity with rural terrain preferred.
  • Fluency in oral and written English and Kiswahili language required.
