Practical Action is an international development agency working with poor communities to help them choose and use technology to improve their lives for today and generations to come.

Practical Action Eastern Africa is expecting to win a new project that aims to facilitate robust markets for livestock and livestock products through rehabilitation of off–farm infrastructures. 


The major outcome of this objective is to have adequately rehabilitated, well equipped, serviced, and operational and well managed off-farm livestock markets and facilities in the areas of operation.

The successful implementation of the project requires that we meet all the required hygiene components and specifically HACCP elements as provided within the Public Health Law.  

We are therefore looking for a Project Officer - food hygiene and technology whose main role will be to ensure adherence with the all statutory provisions for the meat processing facilities.

You will have at least a bachelor’s degree in Degree in Food Science and Technology, Veterinary Public Health or General Public Health, and at least two years experience on food/meat processing with good acquaintance on plant relay out requirement and knowledge on HACCP.

This is a fulltime position reporting to the head of Food and Agriculture, Disaster Risk Reduction Department.

Fluency in English and Kiswahili is essential.

Practical Action Eastern Africa is expecting to win a new project that aims to improve the competitiveness of the cattle, sheep and goats meat, Hides and Skin value chains by increasing productivity and boost marketing and trade of live animals and animal products such as bones, horns, meat, hides and skins.

The goal of the project is to facilitate robust markets for livestock and livestock products through rehabilitation of off–farm infrastructures. The major outcome of this objective is to have adequately rehabilitated, well equipped, serviced, and operational and well managed off-farm livestock markets and facilities in the areas of operation.

We are seeking a highly capable individual with a strong background in Civil Engineering to support the implementation of this project. This is a fulltime position reporting to the head of Food and Agriculture, Disaster Risk Reduction Department.

In this role and as a member of the off - farm Livestock Infrastructure Project team, you will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of livestock markets infrastructure project and has the specific duty of designing and implementing project strategies to ensure effective delivery of the key project milestones.

You will have at least a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a relevant field and at least 3 years of experience in construction works with speciality in livestock sector infrastructure such as slaughter slabs and sale yards or relevant field.

Fluency in English and Kiswahili is essential.

Energy Consultant - Practical Action Consulting, Eastern Africa Region

Practical Action Consulting (PAC) is the dynamic consulting arm of the Practical Action Group. 

PAC extends Practical Action’s work by providing independent and professional consulting services in the use of technology for poverty reduction to governments, NGOs, donors and the private sector. 


PAC works with clients and partners in Africa, Asia and Latin America to deliver projects across the development sector and has particular expertise in energy access and small-scale renewable energy provision; climate change; Disaster Reduction, food and agriculture and inclusive markets development.
  
We are seeking a highly capable individual with a strong background in designing and implementing energy access projects or consultancy assignments within the NGO or private sector to join our energy team in the Eastern Africa region. 

This is a fulltime position based in Nairobi, Kenya with travel within region. 

The position reports to the Manager – PAC, Eastern Africa Region.

In this role, you will be responsible for winning new energy-focused consultancy assignments in the Eastern Africa region, as well as planning and supporting the delivery of such high quality energy assignments through Practical Action Consulting in line with Practical Action regional energy strategy. 

This will involve developing proposals, managing projects, undertaking research and analysis, writing reports and maintaining relationships with associates, partners and clients.

You will interact, collaborate with and manage associate consultants, central and county governments, international agencies and development partners, institutions of higher learning and peer consulting firms, as required so as to deliver high quality work.

You will have at least a bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject, sound knowledge and experience of off-grid energy access technologies and at least five years’ relevant experience. 

You require excellent project management skills, including finance and contract management, client and stakeholder management, managing inputs from team members, consultants and partners and the capability to use project management tools to deliver projects on time and budget to the satisfaction of the client.

Fluency in English is essential and knowledge of French would be an added advantage.
