Brief Description:
 Reporting to the Senior Manager - Organization Effectiveness & Change - the holder of the position will be the process lead for OE projects and change initiatives in the company and will provide OE&C internal consultancy for Retail, Corporate Centre’s and Customer Care.

Detailed Description

  • Carry out job analysis to develop comprehensive job descriptions using accountabilities as the key indicators for success.
  • Work closely with HRBP’s to ensure all jobs have role profiles.
  • Review all role profiles to establish that they meet the required standard requirements.
  • Ensure that existing and new roles are evaluated through the GGS methodology.
  • Clarify the organization in terms of divisional, departmental and sectional structures ensuring that within each team structure jobs are clearly defined and all job profiles are maintained in record.
  • Actively participate in the establishment of the Safaricom culture through involvement in implementation of large scale change efforts across Safaricom.
  • Align all roles to their respective career paths.
  • Coordination of the Job evaluation vendor activities.
  • Where appropriate, support project teams in integrating people change management activities into their project plans.
  • Project manage all change initiatives as requested by HRBP, team and various projects assigned by the section manager through effective project scoping, development of project plans and implementation of the project.
  • Conduct post implementation project reviews, three months after project closure to determine impact of changes effected and reporting on the same.
  • Where appropriate provide the deep know-how, framework and supplementary tools for change management.
  • Has Operational accountability and impact on service to customers.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree and Higher National Diploma in HRM.
  • Extensive experience managing large scale projects and delivering structure change.
  • Have good stakeholder management skills is essential.
  • Organizational and change practice preferred.

Job Title: Principal Engineer - Operations Support

 We are pleased to announce the following vacancy in the Regional Network Operations Department within the Technology Division. 

In keeping with our current business needs, we are looking for a person who meets the criteria indicated below.

Brief Description:
 Reporting to the Senior Manager Power Planning & Support, the position holder will support the effectiveness of all operation functions of the non-telecom elements in the Radio Access Network, and ensure their availability meets or exceeds the requirements of the business. 


This includes the Management, Quality Assurance and compliance of all outsourced Managed Service activities including the management, maintenance, logistics and security requirements associated with the Safaricom BTS and MSR sites. 

Detailed Description
  • Assist with the setup of the new Managed Service contract relevant to Regional Operations
  • Help define and formulate key contract deliverables as well as KPI’s and SLA’s to be measured
  • Manage on a monthly basis all penalties and service credit situations for non-adherence
  • Coordination and follow up with Supply Chain and Legal on contract formulation and sign-off.
  • Support all contract transition activities including joint verification of site estate.
  • Prepare justification documents for renewal or purchase of services when contract is due for termination.
  • Initiation of new outsourced services contracts.
  • Continuously monitor performance of all Managed Service Providers for Preventative as well as Corrective maintenance activities
  • Participate in regular Quality Assurance and Performance Audits of all Managed Service Partners (MSP) in all Regions
  • Document and agree with MSP ways to improve service quality and availability
  • Identify key performance improvement requirements and timescales for delivery
  • Ensure MSP’s comply with Root Cause Analysis requirements on faults as required
  • Identify repeat fault trends and work with the MSP’s to reduce and eliminate where possible
  • Ensure MSP compliance with relevant Safaricom H&S regulations
  • Coordinate between all suppliers and Safaricom operational teams when actions are required to improve performance
  • Setting up and managing regular review meetings with suppliers and contractors
  • Generation of credit notes for services outside SLA
  • Establish governance process for managed services including governance review meetings to address contract issues.
  • Coordinate implementation of Network Improvement Plan for actions under the managed service partners.
  • Liaison role between operations team and the vendor.
  • Coordinate monthly NOPEX per site spent reporting to finance.
  • Liaise with operations team to justify any deviation from NOPEX budgets
  • Prepare yearly forecast figures as may be required by Budget Team
  • Maintain a record of weekly contract performance against set KPIs and SLA
  • Carryout an analysis of MSPs weekly performance against set KPIs and SLA
  • Prepare an analysis reports of site and MSPs performance (Network Unavailability Ratio (NUR), Network Availability e.t.c
  • Prepare quarterly and annual MSPs performance evaluation reports
Job Requirements
  • University degree in Electrical & Electronics engineering / Telecomm Option  from a recognized university or equivalent HND in Telecommunication Engineering with relevant experience.
  • 6 years in a telecommunication environment of which 3 years are in a GSM/UMTS environment.
