Vacancy: Research Assistant – GCAP (CIMMYT)
About the Organization: The International Maize and Wheat Improvement
Center, known by its Spanish acronym, CIMMYT®, is a not-for-profit research and
training organization with partners in over 100 countries, and through offices
in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
We participate in an extensive global
network of people and organizations who share similar research and development
goals, including the public and private sector, non-governmental and civil
society organizations, farmers, and the development assistance community.
The Position: The incumbent will coordinate field activities for
the CIMMYT-CCAFS Project on Participatory Evaluation and Application of Climate
Smart Agriculture (PEACSA)
Key Responsibilities:
- Review of literature and secondary data
related to the work of the above project
- Conduct participatory diagnostic analysis of
farming systems with respect to climate change
- Maintain/ develop institutional links and
partnerships
- Participate in identifying data gaps and
developing additional plans for further data collection including through
surveys and trials, involving male and female farmers and local partners
- Set up and supervise participatory trials and
demonstrations on Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA)
- Organise field data collection and
participatory evaluation of new CSA technologies/ portfolios
- Assist to develop work-plans and budgets for
subcontractors and collaborators
Essential Qualifications
- An MSc in agricultural economics, agriculture,
rural development, agricultural extension or related discipline
- At least two (2) years of experience in
agricultural research among rural smallholder farmers, National
Agricultural Research Systems (NARS) , Non-governmental Organisations
(NGOs)
- Knowledge and experience in farm inputs
including seed, fertiliser, storage equipment, etc.
- Ability to prioritise and organise work
efficiently and independently
- Ability to meet deadlines and work under
pressure with minimal supervision
- Good interpersonal skills, integrity, honesty
and self-motivation
- Ability to perform within a multicultural
team, including working with international scientists
- Demonstrated competency in driving
