Management Accountant Job in Kenya

Summary: Our client Hotpoint Appliances Ltd has been around since 1984 and distributes some of the leading global brand such as LG Electronics, Westpoint, Ariston and Kenwood. 

The company is quickly expanding its operations throughout Kenya and is now one of the region's largest retailers and wholesalers of consumer electronics and entertainment products. 
 

Through strong supplier partnerships, they have a promise to provide customers with quality products featuring the latest technology, while offering unparalleled after-sales service. 

As a result of this expansion they are seeing to fill the position of a Management Accountant who will report and work very closely with the Financial Controller in delivering set company objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Continuously monitors imports costs, ensuring that imported products are correctly valued, and suggests ways of reducing costs. 
  • Assists management in negotiating factory prices, freight rates, marine insurance premiums and clearing & forwarding charges and transport costs. 
  • Assists Imports Department in making claims for goods lost or damaged in transit. Monitors payment of all marine claims.
  • Ensures that direct costs are correctly charged to departments and profit/cost centres. 
  • Ensures that overheads are rationally allocated to departments and profit/ cost centres.
  • Prepares costs reports as required by the management and heads of departments.
  • Ensures that cost of repairs against product warranties are properly captured and recovered from suppliers (where appropriate) and unrecovered costs are correctly allocated to departments and profit centres.
  • Ensures that materials and direct costs of specific jobs (contracts HVAC) are properly allocated and overheads are rationally allocated to jobs. 
  • Ensuring that work in progress is correctly valued.
  • Prepares profit (and loss accounts for each job to ensure such that the progress of all ongoing jobs are monitored and assists management in taking corrective action where red flags appear.
  •  Ensures that jobs are properly closed and the profit or loss on each job is clearly known.
  • Works closely with marketing and other departments in setting up recommended retail prices, discounts, etc.
  • Work closely with marketing, HR and other departments in developing staff incentive and bonus systems to ensure that extra effort is rationally rewarded. 
  • Continuously monitors incentive schemes and calculates incentive payments to be made to individuals.
  • Prepares monthly/quarterly/yearly profit statements by product, by group, etc. as required by heads of departments. 
  • Analyses figures, makes interpretations and gives suggestions on improving margins/profit.
  • Prepares reports of back office costs and recommending ways of cutting overhead costs, bank charges and interest costs.
  • Assists the Financial Controller in preparation of annual budgets and preparing quarterly budgets
  • Suggests business strategies to generate shareholder value
Education and Qualifications:
  • Bachelors Degree or diploma in Accounting
  • Qualifications in ACCA,CPA or ACMA
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in an senior accounting position with a
  • Commercial organisation
  • Experience in preparing financial reports for management.
  • Experience in providing statistical/financial information to heads of departments - to enable them make timely and well informed decisions
  • Experience in working with External Auditors
  • Experience in budget preparations and reporting on variances
  • Some experience/knowledge of Customs and Shipping procedures
  • Some experience/knowledge in supply chain management
  • Experience in developing staff incentive schemes and administering schemes
  • Experience in Cost and Management Accounting
Skills Required:
  • IT literate and fully conversant with high end ERP systems
  • Able to work in a team environment
  • Have analytical problem solving skills
  • Ability to evaluate alternatives and make recommendations to management on business issues
  • Have good written and verbal communications skills
