SAPCONE is a Kenyan based non-profit making indigenous organization with the head office in Lodwar town and operating in Turkana County, mainly with the provision of clean water and sanitation to the communities, education and child protection. 

We are also involved in other community development interventions such as land rights rights and livelihoods in households in and around Turkana County where we have our project camps. It also deals with civic education and promotes peace initiatives.
 

SAPCONE in collaboration with PACT and Mercy Corps implementing Lake Turkana – South Omo cross border peace Initiatives aims to contribute to creating conditions for durable peace and secure livelihoods among the cross border pastoralist communities under PEACE III a five – year project funded by USAID.

SAPCONE is seeking to recruit dynamic, qualified and experienced individuals to fill the above positions

Job Purpose: SAPCONE shall recruit peace monitors to support on-the-ground implementation of its various projects and activities; the Peace Monitors shall be stationed and resident at the designated project sites and shall be responsible for;

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
  • The mobilization of communities towards the achievement of goals, objectives and activities planned for their designated areas,
  • Organizing, facilitating and overseeing all peace building activities organized by SAPCONE  in their designated stations,
  • Taking charge of all arrangements and preparations of planned peace building activities for their specified stations,
  • Linking SAPCONE and the Ward  Peace and Development Committees and the respective Adakar/kraal  Peace and Development Committees through regular information sharing,
  • The PM shall  maintain Conflict  corridors’ Daily Peace/Conflict Incident  Diary,
  • Interpret  to the communities, the various  SAPCONE programmes and activities and their implications and responsibilities,
  • Interpret  to the communities any resource material, data or reports produced by SAPCONE  or any of its agents for the purposes of public consumption within that locality,
  • Taking all measures deemed appropriate and necessary for the maintaining the vibrancy and cohesion of the Divisional Peace and Development Committees and the Adakar  Peace and Development Committees,
  • Developing Community Peace building Plans (CPBPs) using tools developed by SAPCONE from time to time,
  • Taking due care of SAPCONE properties (computers, HF radio sets),
  • The passage of regular early warning information through all means deemed acceptable by SAPCONE and its partners,
  • Writing regular field, activity and security reports,
  • Developing and nurturing cross border linkages with other SAPCONE partners,
  • Advising the respective SPCs  and  local peace committees on relevant matters,
  • Performing any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Academic qualifications and technical experience
  • Diploma in peace studies or development studies or relevant social science
  • Certificate in social sciences with rich experience of over three years  professional experience
  • Working knowledge of both the government of Kenya and the NGO sectors
  • Financial management systems, processes and procedures.
  • Excellent knowledge of current political, social and economic development in Turkana County.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft office.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken Swahili Turkana and English
  • Proven excellent analytical and report writing and documentation skills
  • Excellent research report writing and documentation skills
  • Good interpersonal skills including good coordination and effective working relationships with stakeholder s and colleges
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent presentation oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent planning and time management skills
  • Creativity in the presentation of information through use of graphical pictorial and other  appropriate communication means
  • Confidentiality ,integrity and professionalism in execution of duties and personal conduct

 SAPCONE shall recruit project peace coordinator to support on-the-ground implementation of its various projects and activities; the Project peace coordinator shall be stationed and resident at the designated project sites and shall be responsible for;

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Supervision of all peace monitors deployed in the Turkana north sub - county by SAPCONE;
  • Drawing up sub - county wide strategies, performance targets and timetable and provide technical support to Peace monitors;
  • Monitor and evaluate the implementation of these strategies and timetables, report on them accordingly and make any necessary adjustments with the agreement of SAPCONE;
  • Establishing communications procedures with peace monitors and maintain regular contacts with them;
  • Meet regularly with the peace monitors in the sub - county and report on their performance and follow up on any issues arising;
  • Liaising with sub - County stakeholders and establishing appropriate relations with state institutions, Non state actors, Civil Societies organizations, and other relevant representatives of civil society at the sub - county level to enhance your work
  • Compile and send to SAPCONE weekly summary Sub - county status report;
  • Forward the weekly reports from the peace monitors to SAPCONE every Monday of the week;
  • Submit Monthly reports to SAPCONE on the progress of the sub - county peace monitors
  • Attend to any other duty as may be assigned by SAPCONE.

SAPCONE is urgently looking for Volunteers to assist with “Give Away PAD 2015” Under Turkana Child education support programme in for at least two months.

The volunteers will distribute PADs, Educational needs and trained girls on child protection and menstrual hygiene management  in the below schools

Job Purpose:
 Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Finance Officer will primarily be responsible for the day to day cash management on in-kind grants.
 
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

A. Financial Management
  • Be responsible for all the field related activity payments e.g. workshop events, community meetings etc
  • Obtain prior approvals for all procurement related transactions
  • Prepare expense reports for partner in-kind activities with adequate supporting documentation
  • Assist in conducting financial reviews for cash grants
  • Assist in organizational audits
  • Provide any other financial information, as requested, and respond to any other financial queries
  • Other accounting duties as may be required
B. Filing and administration
  • Assist the Grants Officer in the maintaining and updating of grant files
Desired Skills and Experience

The proposed candidate will be required to maintain a high level of transparency, accountability and integrity.

He/she will be able to relate to others in a manner that creates a sense of teamwork and cooperation.

He/she will maintain effective communication with colleagues, both junior and senior and will relate to others mindful of the cultural diversity of local communities and colleagues.

The Finance Officer will perform a variety of duties often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure.

He/she will accept responsibility for the direction, control and planning of an activity.

He/she will be able to work independently and respond appropriately to environmental and safety hazards and function effectively in emergency situations.

He/she will be able to utilize systems effectively to ensure economical use of equipment and supplies. 

The Finance Officer will be proficient in the Microsoft suite of office products and will be able and willing to travel at short notice for at least 40% of one’s time.

The Grants Officer will maintain a positive, participatory work environment where information is shared, staff input is considered and a healthy team spirit thrives. 

He/she will be expected to initiate and encourage inter-sectoral information sharing and cooperation, exercising respect for cultural diversity.

Qualifications

The minimum required academic and professional skills for the jobholder to perform successfully in their job are:
  • At least CPA 2
  • At least three years experience in a finance related field especially on USAID funded projects
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Demonstrated communication and writing skills
  • Self-driven and able to deliver results with minimum supervision
  • Willingness to travel extensively within the region, work extended periods in the field and interact effectively with partners
  • Highly proficient in Ms Word, Excel, Access, Power-point and the use of Internet for research
