Technical Advisor – Workforce Development and Livelihoods

Position Summary: The Technical Advisor – Workforce Development and Livelihoods will work  collaboratively with the key stakeholders to design and implement workforce development and demand-driven livelihoods interventions for youth and their households.


This position requires comprehensive understanding of and experience in the areas of market systems development, livelihoods, and skills development, with strong capacity building skills.

Minimum Requirements:
·                     A Master’s Degree in Business Administration, International Development, Economics, Agriculture, or related field. Or Bachelor’s and equivalent experience.
·                     Minimum of 6 years of experience in a leadership position responsible for developing market systems or livelihoods programming; preference given to a candidate who has demonstrated experience in economic sectors important for youth employment in Kenya (e.g. agribusiness, retail, construction, etc.).
·                     Experience in projects promoting agriculture and livelihood interventions, preferably in Kenya.
·                     Familiarity and understanding of USAID policies and procedures (highly preferred), or those of other donors, donor funded projects, community-based projects, or corporate social responsibility projects.
·                     Proven abilities to set priorities, to multitask, and to work collaboratively across technical disciplines.
·                     Possess outstanding professional reputation and have strong demonstrated interpersonal, written, and oral presentation skills.
·                     Well-developed written and oral communication skills in English required, Kiswahili preferred.
·                     Experience and demonstrated knowledge of workforce development and livelihoods best practices.
·                     Knowledge of and experience with the design, management and implementation of workforce development programs.
·                     Ability to organize systems to monitor results.

Chief of Party

Position Summary: The Chief of Party will be responsible for providing overall technical and programmatic leadership to an anticipated cross-sectoral project that will strengthen the ability of Kenyan youth to contribute to the country’s social, political, and economic development. 


The project will strengthen youth participation and representation, youth livelihoods and economic opportunities, and access to youth-friendly services. 

The Chief of Party will be responsible for technical quality of program approaches, coordinating partner roles and setting performance expectations, and ensuring program deliverables and milestones are met. 

This position requires a strong cross-disciplinary understanding of market systems and holistic youth development approaches, and the ability to work effectively with a diverse set of actors.

Minimum Requirements:
·                     Master’s degree in a relevant discipline such as business administration, international development, economics, education, social sciences, or another relevant field preferred. Or Bachelor’s degree and equivalent professional experience.
·                     Proven success managing complex development programs that include multi-disciplinary programming, preferably in the Eastern Africa context, and on USAID funded projects of similar size.
·                     Minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience.
·                     Proven abilities to set priorities, to multi-task, and to work collaboratively across technical disciplines.
·                     A strong track record of managing youth livelihoods or market development projects (both rural and urban).
·                     Understanding of key economic sectors for youth employment in Kenya (e.g. agribusiness, retail, construction) strongly preferred.
·                     Outstanding professional reputation and have strong demonstrated interpersonal, written, and oral presentation skills.
·                     Well-developed written and oral communication skills in English required, Kiswahili preferred.
·                     Knowledge of and experience with the design, management and implementation of youth livelihoods or market systems programs.
·                     Experience developing successful private sector partnerships in the context of market development, youth livelihoods, or other programs.
·                     Experience collaborating with government ministries and officials, NGOs and donors, and community-based institutions, preferably in Kenya.
·                     Ability to organize systems to monitor results.
·                     Demonstrated ability to lead a diverse team on activities of similar scale (financially, staff size, and activities).
·                     Ability to work well with others and to develop and maintain compatibility among project staff, subcontractors, consultants, and recipients of assistance.
