The Community Development and Health
Office of The Salvation Army Kenya East Territory seeks to recruit qualified
persons to the positions of Research Manager & Field Coordinator for our
SIMBA Project.
This project aims to raise awareness,
undertake research and build resilient communities in order to prevent human
trafficking.
Research Manager (Commencing May 2015)
As the person who will have the
general management responsibility for this project, your main role will be to
oversee all the activities.
You will also be required to develop
both primary and secondary research which will help enable The Salvation Army
and other stakeholders plan their services and programmes in the fight against
human trafficking.
This position requires a high
standard of professionalism and precision in research in order to effectively
raise awareness.
This is a one year contract, with
potential to renew depending on funding, impact of project and personal
performance.
Minimum Professional Requirements:
- Completed an honours degree in a strongly
research based discipline at a reputable university;
- Post-graduate degree is highly desirable
- Experience of both qualitative and
quantitative research methods
- Excellent written English and report-writing
skills
- •Basic statistical knowledge and application
- At least 1 year experience working in research
capacity for NGO or FBO. Experience in a community development or
social action project will be an advantage.
- A working knowledge of Microsoft Office
applications (including Excel)
Field Coordinator (Commence Aug 2015)
The general role is to guide various
communities to become Active Communities Against Trafficking. You will be
responsible for co-ordinating the community awareness and training component of
this project, offering specific technical advice on anti-trafficking and cross
cutting issues such as gender based violence and HIV/AIDS.
A high focus of the work will be with
men and boys at community level.
This position is based in Mtito Andei
but you will be required to spend time in Nairobi and Namanga on a regular
basis..
Travel to communities around the
country will also be an important component of this role.
This is a one year contract, with
potential to renew depending on funding, impact of project and personal
performance.
Minimum Professional Qualification
- Ability to organize and facilitate training
using the participatory methodologies.
- Good knowledge of issues related to anti-human
trafficking & community development
- Excellent organisational skills, the ability
to think logically and problem solve
- The ability to communicate effectively in a
variety of settings; from the village to the boardroom
- A degree level education or equivalent
experience in related subject
General Requirements & experience
for both posts:
- Good knowledge of issues related to anti-human
trafficking & community development
- Proven experience liaising with a range of
people including government agencies, NGOs and academic institutions
- Fluent written and verbal English and
Kiswahili language skills.
- Must be in sympathy with the values of The
Salvation Army
