The Lwala Community Alliance (LCA) is
a local civil society organization delivering programs in healthcare,
education, and economic development in rural Migori County.
Most notably, the Lwala Community
Hospital has tripled in size and now serves more than 2,500 patients a month;
the Kenyan team has grown from 7 to 140; and the education program is reaching
out to 13 schools in the region.
The organization has received
recognition through the Clinton Global Initiative, Apple, Citizen TV, ABC World
News, CNN, and the film Sons of Lwala, which documents the program founding.

Responsibilities
- In consultation with the Head Clinician -
Ordering and ensuring availability of medical supplies in all clinical
department.
- In consultation with the Head Clinician -
Create work schedules for clinical staff, and assign staff in areas of
need as may be requested by other department heads. Assist in the
recruitment for locum staff as needed to provide complete coverage.
- Build and maintain high quality programs in
clinical care by assisting in the writing of proposals and grants as
needed, including the planning and implementation of new programs.
- Serve as point-person on the grant assigned by
the director and ensure timely and accurate reporting to our partners.
- Compile and submit monthly reports to the
Ministry of Health for all clinical care programs
- Collaborate with the Head Clinician to create
work plans for the Clinical Care department, including programs to
implement and the staff and support services that the programs require
- Organize and participate in CMEs for staff in
the clinic and at other facilities as may be organized by our partners as
provided in the policy.
- Conduct monitoring and evaluation activities
to ensure continued success of programming.
- Train staff on documentation and enforce
documentation protocols.
- Assist in the recruitment, hiring, and
orientation of new clinical staff. Arrange for the orientation of new
staff including facility tour, discussion of roles and responsibilities,
review of facility and personnel manual, etc
- Help maintain partnerships and communication
with MoH, and any other current or potential partners as assigned.
- Assist in the revision of clinic protocols and
manuals as needed, and assist with other institutional capacity building
activities
- Assist Head Clinician with monthly department
reports and budget development and other administrative responsibilities
as assigned
Qualifications and Skills
- Relevant Diploma/degree in Nursing.
- Minimum of 5 years experience as a lead nurse
hospital set up
- 1 year work experience in a rural community
- Experience working with young people
- Experience using Microsoft Word and Excel
- Experience in program report writing
- Ability/desire to be a team player and servant
leader
- Ability to think both creatively and
strategically
Clinical Officer

seeking to employ qualified, experienced, and motivated individual for a 12
month with potential for extension to full-time employment
Responsibilities
- Provide quality medical care to both
in-patients and outpatients
- Obtain health histories and perform
comprehensive physical examinations, including psychosocial, functional,
and developmental assessment. Apply medical knowledge and skills to
develop differential diagnoses. Aided by diagnostic and laboratory
results, develop/order therapeutic plan of care according to MOH and LCA
protocols and evidence-based practice standards. Evaluate patient’s
response to plan of care and modify as needed. Provide patient/family
counseling and education.
- Consult with other clinicians to provide the
optimum level of care. Collaborate with other members of the clinical team
in improving patient.
- When necessary, arrange for patient referrals
or consultations to other health facilities for specialty or higher-level
management. Accompany patients on referrals as needed.
- Document all aspects of patient care and
maintain accurate and complete medical records.
- Actively participate in clinical training
programs, including on-job trainings and skills building. Participate in
trainings for professional development, and continually improve and update
self to be able to function in all departments within the facility.
Attend CMEs, case review meetings as scheduled.
- Assist with outreaches or other activities
such as health talks or community programs.
- Assist in the implementation of new programs
as necessary
Qualifications
- RCO Diploma holders from recognized
institutions
- License with Clinical Officers Council
- Desire to work or experience in rural
community
- Minimum 2 years work experience
Community Health Coordinator
Responsibilities
- Manage activities including, but not limited
to, programs in maternal health outreach, family planning, water,
sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), GIS mapping, nutrition, HIV, education
through iPads, and heath education.
- Oversee and supervise all community health
staff
- Maintain current programming and assist with
new program start up as needed
- Coordinate scheduling for all community
activities (i.e. outreaches, stakeholder meetings, community dialogue
days, grassroots advocacy meetings, Review meetings, Action days).
- Acquire curricula, materials, and manage
appropriate resources and ensure adequate training for staff and CHWs/YPPs
- Track all data and activities and oversee
demand generation efforts (i.e. VMMC, HIV, FP, MNCH, nutrition)
- Directly oversee activities in the community
by visiting program sites, participating in trainings, evaluating staff
trainers, and performing the role of trainer as necessary.
- Periodic evaluation and mentorship of
community health staff
- Conduct follow-ups of community health
programs
- Assist with grant report writing related to
Community Health and ensure all relevant grant data is captured timely and
accurately.
- Conduct monitoring and evaluation activities
to ensure continued success of programming.
- Compile and submit monthly reports for all
public health programs
Qualifications and Skills
- Relevant Diploma/degree in Nursing/Public
health.
- Minimum of 5 years experience in the relevant
field and 1 year work experience in a rural community
- Experience working with young people
