Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA)
seeks qualified applicants for the position of Field Officer for the Kenya
Patient Safety Impact Evaluation Project (KePSIE). The project proposes to
evaluate different models of health inspections and supportive supervision to
improve patient safety and the quality of care in Kenyan private and public
health facilities.
KePSIE will conduct a health facility
listing exercise and collect baseline and follow-up surveys to measure different
aspects of patient safety and quality of care in approximately 1200 public and
private health facilities in three counties including Kakamega, Kilifi and
Meru.
We are seeking Field Officers to
assist in baseline data collection. Baseline data will be collected through
various instruments including facility and patient exit surveys, direct
observation of patient-health provider interaction and standardized
patients.
The Field Officer will be based in
any of these counties: Kakamega, Kilifi, Meru and will require travel in the
regions. He/She will work closely with fellow Field Officers, and with the
management team.
The Field Officer will spend
approximately 90% of his/her time in the field and 10% in the office
Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities:
General
- Completion of scheduled activities each day in
a timely manner
- Interact with community members and facility
staff with the highest level of integrity and understanding
- On non-field days, conscientious performance
of office work for instance translations, training/learning
- Assist in daily survey organization and
storage
- Ensure data integrity is maintained at all
times and minimize errors in data collection and transport
- Administer facility surveys and provider
surveys Acquire records from health care facilities
- Networking with the different components of
the project and reporting appropriately
Qualifications:
Required
- Bachelors’ degree or college diploma in
Nursing, Clinical Officer and/or allied health related fields OR
- Bachelors’ degree or college diploma in social
sciences, business administration
- Excellent oral and written communication
skills in both English and Kiswahili
- Experience with data collection through
facility and household surveys, academic tests, exit interviews, focus
groups or observations
- Ability to recognize when questions are
difficult or unclear to subjects
- Excellent note taking ability during
interviews
- Willingness to travel within the regions we
are working in
- Comfortable with interviewing individuals at
healthcare facilities
- Basic computer knowledge and skills
(mandatory)
- Ability to comfortably work with groups and
within groups
Desired
- Past experience in data collection
- Previous experience working with a health
facility or experience as a health workers an added advantage
