Mwalimu Sacco is seeking to recruit dynamic, ambitious and result oriented individuals to fill the following position:
 
Human Resources Manager

Ref: HRM/11/2014
 
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the incumbent will develop and deliver people management strategies which support the Sacco’s overall strategic aims and objectives. 

S/he will contribute at both strategic and operations level in order to identify human resources priorities and recommend appropriate people management solutions which support business aims, in addition to providing a customer-focused HR service.

Specific responsibilities will include:
  • Developing and implementing the annual HR business plans derived from the Strategic Plan;
  • Identifying, designing and implementing strategic HR projects, as and when required.
  • Developing, reviewing and ensuring compliance with HR practices and procedures;
  • Developing and implementing effective and equitable job grading and salary structures;
  • Preparing and monitoring the departmental budget;
  • Developing manpower plans, conducting recruitment and selection, induction and development programs;
  • Coordinating, monitoring and evaluating performance management and appraisal processes;
  • Driving staff engagement initiatives;
  • Managing employee relations and grievance processes;
  • Ensuring a conducive work environment and overseeing employee welfare, safety and health; and
  • Preparing HR metrics and reports on all staff HR related issues.
Key qualifications, knowledge and experience required:
  • A Masters degree in Business Administration, Strategic Management or Human Resources Management;
  • A member of Institute of Human Resources Management. A higher Diploma in Human Resource Management will be an added advantage;
  • At least 10 years human resource generalist working experience of which at least five (5) should be in a senior management position heading a HR function;
  • Understanding and working knowledge of Labour laws and Labour Union activities;
  • Excellent negotiation and conflict resolution skills; and
  • Excellent counselling skills.

Head of Marketing, Research and Corporate Affairs

The incumbent will plan, develop and implement all of the organization’s marketing strategies, marketing communications, and public relations activities in order to continuously attract potential customers and retain existing ones. 

S/he will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer and will also ensure that the SACCO communicates its value proposition to the members and other stakeholders.

Specific responsibilities will include:
  • Developing and implementing the SACCO’s marketing, corporate communication strategy, and customer service strategy;
  • Developing of themes, layout, design, communication messages and coordinating printing of marketing and promotional materials;
  • Managing and monitoring customer service within Mwalimu Sacco and its branches countrywide;
  • Coordinating all internal and external corporate communication including media briefs and release;
  • Leading the marketing team to deliver all planned and agreed department and individual performance targets;
  • Ensuring the delivery of excellent internal and external customer service by all team members;
  • Identifying potential business opportunities while ensuring acquisition of and retention of members;
  • Developing and implementing Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives within the Sacco
  • Planning and implementing promotional campaigns through various platforms; and
  • Industry research of various aspects influencing the cooperative movement and financial sector at large.
Key qualifications, knowledge and experience required:
  • A Bachelors degree business or related field; A masters degree is an added advantage
  • Membership to a professional body;
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a busy organization, five of which must be in a senior management position progressively within a busy marketing, strategic planning/innovations department;
  • Demonstrable expert business knowledge and proficiency in marketing, analytical research, leadership, corporate communication and strategic planning;
  • High standards of professionalism and integrity; and
  • Ability to write press releases, make presentation and negotiate with media.

Company Secretary
Ref: CS/11/2014
 
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Directors, the incumbent will advise on legal, compliance and corporate matters of the Sacco. 

S/he will be responsible for identifying and managing legal risk, leading the compliance function and providing direction and focus while proactively advising and educating the organization on relevant legal issues.

Specific responsibilities will include:
  • Providing legal advisory services to the Sacco’s board and management and ensuring that all activities are in line with the applicable laws, including compliance matters which may pose financial or reputational risks;
  • Formulating and developing legal strategies and plans to ensure adherence to legal and policy guidelines that promote good corporate governance;
  • Ensuring that all aspects of legal risk are identified, covered and mitigated in the implementation of new projects, systems, and procedures;
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating legal agreements to which the Sacco is a party;
  • Researching and preparing legal papers and reports on issues of importance to the Sacco;
  • Providing oversight on work assigned to external lawyers to facilitate progress for cases to ensure that all information necessary to the hearing of cases are available;
  • Acting as a legal representative for Mwalimu Sacco for debt collection and legal actions for recoveries and in court cases;
  • Managing the organization’s fixed assets contracts within the legal and regulatory context;
  • Preparing and delivering compliance education and training to employees to build risk awareness within the organization; and
  • Organizing Board meetings and Annual General Meetings by formulating meeting agenda with the Chairman/CEO and ensuring timely distribution of board papers.
Key qualifications, knowledge and experience required:
  • A Bachelor of Laws degree from a recognized university and must be an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya. A Master’s degree will be an added advantage;
  • A minimum of ten (10) years relevant post-qualification legal experience;
  • At least five (5) years’ experience in financial services setting will be considered a distinct advantage; and 
  • Working knowledge and experience of Laws of Kenya, legal and court processes, procedures and Sacco guidelines.

Head of Audit, Risk & Compliance

Under the supervision of the Board Audit & Risk committee and CEO, the incumbent will provide assurance to the Audit Committee with regards to the effectiveness and adequacy of the SACCO’s internal control systems, risk management and governance policies, procedures and processes and the SACCO’s compliance to statutory requirements and regulations.

He will be responsible for facilitating the execution of the Enterprise-wide Risk Management (ERM) framework in the SACCO and is expected to lead and own the SACCO’s risk strategy.

Specific responsibilities will include:
  • Formulating and ensuring the execution of Strategic objectives for the Audit, Risk and Compliance department in line with the overall corporate plan;
  • Formulating and managing audit department’s annual budget;
  • Establishing an efficient and effective control environment to monitor risk, oversee and enforce risk management policies to close gaps in risk capabilities;
  • Monitoring the Sacco’s compliance with risk management regulatory provisions; ensure prompt reporting of risk exposures and provide advice on resolution, in line with best practices;
  • Ensuring that risk management, control, and governance systems are functioning as intended and will enable the organization’s objectives and goals to be met;
  • Organizing internal and external audits, while ensuring compliance with the management actions recommended in the audit reports;
  • Attending Board Audit Committee meetings as the Committee Secretary; and
  • Advising on risk issues and preparing audit report for the Board and Management to assist in decision making.
Key qualifications, knowledge and experience required:
  • A degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Banking, Finance or Economics. A Masters Degree will be an added advantage;
  • Possess professional qualification such as ACCA, CPA (K), CISA and a registered member of ICPAK; certified risk and compliance accreditations shall be an added advantage;
  • A minimum of five 5 years working experience in audit, risk management and risk supervision in financial institutions at senior management level as an Audit Manager or its equivalent;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of ERM concepts, financial systems and process audit and thorough knowledge of financial service industry/Sacco dynamics including regulations, legislations and operating environment; and
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct reviews and development of policies and procedures and align them with best practices including IFRS and International Standards for Professional Practice of Internal Auditing.

Head of Finance & Strategy

The incumbent will provide effective and efficient co-ordination and supervision of financial management and reporting of the Sacco by developing and implementing sound accounting and financial systems and internal control procedures in accordance with international financial standards, policies, guidelines and procedures.

Specific responsibilities will include:
  • In liaison with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), formulating corporate strategies, monitoring and overseeing their successful implementation;
  • Developing new areas of business that accelerate revenue generation and attainment of the organisation’s growth and competitive strategies;
  • Providing relevant financial information and reports on the Sacco’s performance on periodic basis, ensure compliance with current SASRA directives, the Companies Act, Sacco and SASRA guidelines;
  • Preparing timely financial statements and reports as required by all pertinent laws and regulations;
  • Coordinate effective treasury management to ensure optimum utilization of funds;
  • Preparing, controlling and monitoring the Sacco’s revenue and expenditure budget;
  • Creating and maintaining strong financial discipline by planning, controlling and reporting on the Sacco’s financial performance to the Board of Directors and the senior management team;
  • Monitoring the fixed assets register, provision accounts and investment portfolio;
  • Ensuring financial and management controls are in place and report on any irregularity and noncompliance which have a financial implication; and
  • Maintaining a good working relationship with various stakeholders towards attainment of the Sacco’s development plans and its investments.
Key qualifications, knowledge and experience required:
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, or related field. A Masters degree will be an added advantage;
  • Possess professional accounting qualification CPA(K), ACCA, ACA and a registered member of ICPAK;
  • A minimum of five 5 years working experience at senior management level as a Finance Manager or its equivalent;
  • Demonstrable financial management experience and knowledge on all aspects of a financial institution, accounting and IFRS standards, SACCO guidelines and SASRA guidelines; and
  • Excellent leadership skills particularly in strategy formulation and execution.
