Kenya Ports Authority was established by an Act of Parliament on 20th January, 1978 with the mandate to maintain, improve and regulate all scheduled sea ports along Kenya’s Coast. 

In this regard, the Authority manages the port of Mombasa which is strategically placed to serve the commercial, agricultural and industrial hinder land of Kenya and the surrounding landlocked countries. 

The key focus areas of KPA include capacity expansion, productivity improvement, growth in market share as well as safety and security.
 
Due to the tremendous growth of its business, the Authority is seeking to recruit high caliber professionals to support and strengthen its workforce. 

The successful candidates will fill the following positions:

Contracts & Conveyancing Department

 
Assistant Estate & Rating Officer
Grade HM4

Reporting to the Senior Estate and Rating Officer, the holder will be responsible for ensuring optimum use of Authority’s land and property leased to others; ensuring that the Authority leasing or purchasing of land and property from others is effectively and efficiently managed to the Authority’s best advantage.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assisting in the maintenance of accurate survey plans, registers and records of all land and property and registration thereof.
  • Assisting in the valuation of property or land for lease to others or for lease by the Authority.
  • Assisting in the valuation of property or land for purchase by the Authority from the others.
  • Taking vacant possession of properties leased by the Authority and to give vacant possession of KPA properties leased to others.
  • Assisting in negotiating on behalf of the Leasing Committee, renewals of leases for properties leased by the Authority and for KPA properties leased to others.
  • Carrying out valuation of houses acquired by KPA staff through house-ownership scheme.
  • Assisting in verifying land rent and rates that are assessed and demanded by Government and Local Authorities by; inspection of Valuation Rolls, lodging of objections and presentation of Authority’s interests before Commissioner of Lands and Valuation Courts.
  • Collecting and maintaining data on property values and rents, expenditure, costs and expenditures and formulate opinions of value.
  • Conducting searches at the Land registry.
Requirements for the Post
  • Bachelor’s degree in Land Economics, B.Sc. Surveying or any other relevant field from a recognized institution
  • Professional certification in Valuation and Estate Management/Land Management.
  • Good ICT Skills
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a similar role in a reputable organization.

Medical Services Department

Nursing Officer 
Grade HM4

Reporting to the Chief Nursing Officer, the job holder will be responsible for providing comprehensive quality nursing care to patients.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Providing nursing care to patients and Maternal Child Health and Family Planning (MCH/FP) services.
  • Offering broad counseling services to both employees and their families.
  • Maintaining accurate records of drugs and medical supplies placed under his/her custody and keeping nursing supplies inventory.
  • Preparing relevant reports as required and within the set deadlines.
  • Participating in home based care and palliative care to improve quality of life of convalescents and terminally ill patients respectively.
  • Giving nutritional and other forms of health education to patients/Clients.
Job Specifications
  • Diploma in Community Health Nursing from the Kenya Medical Training College or a recognized Medical Training Institution.
  • Registered by the Nursing Council of Kenya with valid current practising license.
  • Minimum of five (5) years relevant experience in a busy Health Institution/ Hospital.
  • Good ICT skills.
Those with the following Qualifications will have an added advantage:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from a recognized University.
  • Post basic Diploma qualification from any of the nursing field e.g Theatre, ICU, Trauma, Neonatal, Renal, Psychiatry or Pediatric Nursing.
  • Certificate in Maternal Child Health and Family Planning (MCH/FP) or Certificate in Reproductive Health.
  • Certificate in HIV Counseling and Testing e.g Prevention of Mother To Child Transmission(PMTCT) or Diagnostic Testing and Counseling (DTC) or Provider Initiated Testing and Counseling (PITC) or Voluntary Counseling and Testing.
Clinical Officers

Reporting to the Chief Clinical Officer, the job holder will be responsible for providing clinical care and services in the Authority. 

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provision of quality Clinical services at the Authority’s health facilities.
  • Identifying and referring patients with complicated illnesses to the Head of Medical Services for further management.
  • Participating in comprehensive HIV/AIDS program for the employees and their dependents.
  • Conducting counseling sessions to the employees and their dependents.
  • Conducting health education at the Authority’s health facilities.
  • Conducting Special Clinics such as diabetic, hypertension, E.N.T., ophthalmology, pediatrics, tuberculosis (TB) clinics, etc.
Requirements for the Post
  • Diploma in Clinical Medicine from a recognized institution.
  • Registration with the Clinical Officers Council and with a current license.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience at similar role in a reputable organization.
  • Good ICT Skills.

Medical Services Department

1. Senior Pharmaceutical Technologist

Reporting to the Chief Pharmacist, the job holder will be responsible for the provision of quality pharmaceutical care and services in the Authority.

Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Monitoring drug usage and advising the pharmacist accordingly.
  • Supervising and coordinating pharmaceutical services to ensure quality services are offered.
  • Coordinating patient flow at the pharmacy and ensuring high standards of cleanliness in the pharmacy section.
  • Assisting in carrying out audit surveys on the quality of pharmaceutical care to ensure they are as per the World Health Organization guidelines.
  • Assisting in the study of disease patterns over time using prescriptions and generating appropriate reports.
  • Maintaining records on all issues arising from dispensing errors, drug abuse and patients complaints on medication.
  • Maintaining records on all drug allergies, adverse drug reaction, counterfeit and sub- standard products.
  • Keeping records of stock items and posting of prescriptions.
  • Monitoring expiry and storage conditions of drugs, both in the drugs stores and pharmacies.
  • Facilitating distribution of pharmaceuticals and other supplies to user units.
Job Specifications
  • Higher National Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology.
  • Must be registered by the Pharmacy & Poisons Board.
  • Member of the Kenya Pharmaceutical Association.
  • At least five (5) years working experience in a busy Pharmacy or a reputable Hospital.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Counseling skills.
2. Pharmaceutical Technologist

Reporting to the Senior Pharmaceutical Technologist, the job holder is responsible for the provision of quality pharmaceutical care in the Authority.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Coordinating pharmaceutical services to ensure quality services are offered.
  • Dispensing drugs to patients and counseling patients on their medication.
  • Maintaining registers for usage of antiretroviral drugs, opportunistic infections and anti-malarial drugs.
  • Compiling daily reports for National Programs on drugs.
  • Keeping records of stock items and posting of prescriptions.
  • Monitoring storage conditions and expiry of drugs.
Requirements for the Post
  • Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology from Kenya Medical Training College or any other institution approved by the Ministry of Health.
  • Must be registered by the Pharmacy & Poisons Board.
  • Member of the Kenya Pharmaceutical Association.
  • At least five (5) years relevant experience in a busy Pharmacy.
  • Good Computer literacy
  • Counseling skills.
