Finance Assistant Job in Kenya

Vacancy: Temporary (5 months) Finance Assistant

The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health’s Center for Communication Programs (JHU∙CCP) is seeking a temporary Finance Assistant to assist with daily financial management and procurement activities for the Center for Communication Programs, Kenya, with primary focus on the Tupange Project funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation through JHPIEGO. 

This is a temporary full time position (October / November 2014 – March 2015).

The Finance Assistant will:
  • Ensure that financial policies and procedures are adhered to;
  • Prepare supportive documentation for procurements;
  • Assist in preparation of monthly financial reports;
  • Record transactions into QuickBooks;
  • Prepare electronic bank transactions;
  • Maintain petty cash and bank registers and ensure reconciliations are done in a timely manner;
  • Ensure sufficient pipeline of funds is available;
  • Maintain a journal of receivables and follow up with staff on accountabilities;
  • Prepare checks and bank reconciliation statements;
  • Prepare returns to PAYE, NSSF and VAT;
  • Maintain inventory of assets and prepare routine reports;
  • Maintain proper filing system and custody of financial documents.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, accounting, or related field.
  • 3 years working as an accountant, preferably with a Gates Foundation funded project.
  • Familiar with U.S. government financial management systems a plus.
  • Honest with strong organizational skills and the ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Able to use Microsoft Word and Excel at an intermediate level.
  • Proficient with QuickBooks.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.
