Overview: Mara Foundation is
Mara Group’s social enterprise that focuses on emerging African
entrepreneurs.
The
Foundation is active in a number of countries across Africa, including Uganda,
Tanzania, Nigeria and Kenya. Mara Foundation’s mission is to provide
comprehensive support services including mentorship, funding and business
training to African entrepreneurs.
Mara
Foundation believes that these support services will play a crucial role in
transforming business ideas into reality.
These
businesses will, in turn, create jobs for other Africans and help build an SME
sector that can genuinely contribute to the development of both the local and
pan-African economies. Mara Online
Overview: Mara Online seeks to empower young people
in Africa by providing a complementary suite of technology products tailored to
their needs.
One
of these products is Mara Mentor, a Mara Foundation initiative that is a social
network with a purpose – creating a social impact. Mara Online is seeking to
build a technology ecosystem to tap into Africa communications.
There
are more than 650 million mobile phone subscribers and a large population of
youth looking for new ways to communicate, faster and cheaper.
About
the Role: We
are looking for tech savvy individuals who are ready and willing to lead, coordinate,
promote, and execute unique events, forums & initiatives that creatively
integrate the Mara Mentor platform into various universities in Kenya.
The
Mara Foundation is executing an exciting Mara Mentor recruitment drive in 10
top tier campuses across Nairobi to help showcase how Mara Mentor is
revolutionising the SME landscape in Kenya.
The
successful candidates will help develop and implement campus events that
facilitate personalised user experiences with the Mara Mentor app.
This
exciting 3 month opportunity will equip the successful candidate with:

opportunities
- The
provision of airtime and exponential potential on earnings based on output
- The
possibility of an extension of your engagement with Mara Online based on
your overall performance with the possibility of joining Mara Online as a
Youth Representative for those in the final semester of their studies.
Qualifications, skills and requirements
The successful candidate should ideally:
- Be
well spoken, congenial, articulate and comfortable talking to new people
and engaging them in genuine conversations and experiences.
- Be
active on a variety of social media channels preferably having a large
social media following and owns a laptop. Must own a smart phone.
- Be
a student in campus actively pursuing your studies. Full time students are
encouraged to apply.
- Be
aware of the trends in small and medium enterprise development in Kenya
- Maintaining
consistent visibility of the Foundation's presence on campus via print
marketing collateral, ie: flyers and posters on campus notice boards, etc.
- Be
able to maintain a flexible schedule and be willing to work evenings and
weekends based on potential activations and events in your respective
campus.
- Have
previous event planning experience, the capacity to curate great ideas and
the determination and connections to make awesome events happen.
- Have
in mind that downloading the app and signing up is not enough. We want
students using the app together, sharing their experiences, interact &
engage with other users, learn and have fun! This can ideally happen in
campus events, student club sessions, hang-outs, or even study-sessions.
There are a myriad of possibilities while making the entire user
experience fun and engaging.
