The Kenya School of Law is a Postgraduate Training Institution established under the Kenya School of Law Act No. 26 of 2012 of the Laws of Kenya. 

The core mandate of the Kenya School of Law is inter alia to train for legal professional development and in particular to train lawyers for entry into the legal profession as Advocates of the High Court of Kenya. 

The core functions of School as currently constituted includes provision of the following services:-
 

(i) Advocates Training and Paralegal Studies;
 
(ii) Continuing Professional Development, Projects and Legal Research
 
In order to effectively meet these expanded functions the School wishes to recruit Full Time high calibre persons who will join the existing strong team of staff to help it realize its vision of being the preferred centre of excellence in legal education and training in the Eastern Africa region and beyond.

Internal Audit Assistant

1 Position
 
Overall purpose of the Job: Reporting to the Internal Auditor the position is responsible for supporting the audit function in ensuring that management policies and procedures are adhered to and that internal controls are effective.

Key duties and responsibilities include:
  • Prepare and execute audit programs to conduct operational and financial audits;
  • Assess financial risk, system and business processes to ensure compliance with applicable laws, policies and procedures;
  • Examine and analyze accounting and financial records, documents and systems of the institute to ensure financial recording accuracy and compliance with established international accounting standards, statutory requirements, procedures and internal controls;
  • Verify the School’s financial reporting is in line with the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS);
  • Prepare detailed reports on audit findings and make recommendations to improve the institution accounting, financial and management practices
Requirements for the position:
  • Possess a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting);
  • Assess financial risk, system and business processes to ensure compliance with applicable laws, policies and procedures;
  • CPA II;
  • Have at least 3 years relevant working experience in audit environment;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Senior Legal Officer / Personal Assistant

1 Position
 
Overall Purpose of the Job: Reporting to the Director/Chief Executive Officer, the position is responsible for all legal matters pertaining to Kenya School of Law (KSL), carrying out Board Secretarial duties and providing legal advice to ensure adherence to all legal requirements by KSL.
 
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide administrative and secretarial support to the Kenya School of Law Board and committees;
  • Prepare minutes, board records and ensure distribution of board deliberations;
  • Draft contracts, correspondence and related matters to protect Kenya School of Law ‘ legal interests;
  • Provide legal advisory services to Board and Management at Kenya School of Law;
  • Liaise with external lawyers on litigation matters;
  • Ensure that Kenya School of Law complies with statutory requirements and regulations;
  • Ensure that communication from KSL is legally sound;
  • Develop and implement KSL’s Legal strategy, policies, mission and vision;
  • Ensure timely and efficient implementation of Legal strategy and Annual Work Plan (AWP) and ensure that departmental performance targets are set and achieved;
  • Ensure full implementation of the Quality Management System within the Legal department
Requirements for the position:
  • LLM and Diploma in Law (Kenya School of Law)
  • An Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and hold a valid practicing certificate;
  • Member of the Law Society and Institute of Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya; and
  • 5 years’ experience with at least 2 years at senior management level
  • Prior experience in carrying out Company Secretarial duties
  • Excellent interpersonal, management and communication skills
