Financial Accountant Job in Kenya

Our client is a public limited liability company operating in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania with an export agent in Rwanda in the publishing industry. 

In order to grow and achieve its vision, the publishing firm needs to hire a Financial Accountant to be based in Nairobi.
 
This position will be critical for ensuring timely postings in to general and subsidiary ledgers of the company in order to facilitate provision of timely & accurate financial & management reports. 

The Financial Accountant will be responsible to the Head of Finance and Strategy for preparation of management accounts and other financial reports and ensuring accurate postings into the general ledger.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities 
  • Ensuring correctness of the general & subsidiary ledgers;
  • Reviewing accounting journals before posting into the system;
  • Ensuring reconciliation of all general ledger accounts;
  • Updating and reconciling the fixed assets register with the general ledger.
  • Preparing accurate and timely management/financial accounts reports to facilitate decision making;
  • Ensuring timely filing of VAT;
  • Facilitating tax audits for compliance & following up on VAT refunds;
  • Liaising with insurance brokers to ensure adequate cover of the company assets and staff;
  • Participating in the preparation of annual company budgets;
  • Coordinating annual audit;
  • Ensuring timely and accurate preparation of daily bank position;
  • Prepare product and project payback analysis to track profitability of acquisitions, products and monitor return on investment projections
  • Recommend timely reviews on the company’s credit management policy to safeguard company assets and ensure efficient cash flow management.
  • Support the Chief HR and Admin Officer in meeting the HR objectives.
  • Participate and offer advice to the Company’s Investment Committee in their assessment of  strategic initiatives and proposed investments to ensure quality and viability of investments.
  • Track and prepare reports on implementation of business contracts with various partners, identifying lapses and the financial consequence of each.
Qualifications and Experience
 
For appointment to the position of Financial Accountant, an officer must have:
  • Proven work experience of seven (7) in finance three (3) of which must have been in middle or senior level management.
  • Holder of Bachelors degree in a business related field from a recognized university. A Masters degree will be an added advantage.
  • Must be a member of ICPA(K) of good standing
  • Clear understanding of Income Tax and Vat Acts and other statutory requirements, International Accounting standards (IAS) and IFRS;
  • Demonstrated a high degree of professional competence in financial matters, leadership and administrative capability; and
  • A Certificate in Computer Applications (Windows, Ms-Word, Ms-Excel, Ms-Access, Internet and Accounting Packages especially in an ERP) from a recognized institution.
