The African Population and Health
Research Center (APHRC) is an international non-profit, non-governmental
organization that conducts high-quality, policy-relevant research on population,
health and education issues facing sub-Saharan Africa.
Jointly-led by APHRC and the
University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, CARTA seeks to build a vibrant
African academy able to lead world-class multidisciplinary research that
impacts positively on public and population health.
APHRC seeks to recruit a Communications Officer for
CARTA program.
The position will be based at APHRC’s
headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya, and will be in the Policy Engagement and
Communication (PEC) Division.
The Position: The Communications Officer will primarily oversee
CARTA communication and IT activities including online support to fellows of
the CARTA program. The incumbent will also support other PEC activities.
Responsibilities
- Lead the operationalization and implementation
of the CARTA Communication Strategy
- Ensure timely the production and dissemination
of quality CARTA outreach and communication materials, including the
newsletter
- Maintain and ensure regular improvement of the
CARTA website and portals
- Manage CARTA’s IT and communication equipment,
online databases and resources
- Lead the strategic use of different media to
raise, expand, and monitor the visibility of the CARTA program among
partners and stakeholders.
Qualifications and Competencies
- At least a Masters’ degree in Communications,
Journalism, Publishing or related fields;
- At least five (5) years increasingly
responsible work experience in communication, writing and content
creation, publishing or related fields;
- Longstanding experience in web development and
maintenance as well as desktop publishing;
- Excellent skills in electronic and social
media as well as graphics/visual communication;
- Excellent writing and synopsizing skills;
- Excellent team player and strategic thinker;
- Ability to work independently and with minimal
supervision.
