The
International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral and
independent organisation with the exclusively humanitarian mission to protect
the lives and dignity of victims of war and internal violence and to provide them
with assistance.
The
ICRC’s Regional Delegation in Nairobi co-ordinates the institution’s
humanitarian activities in Kenya, Tanzania and Djibouti. It also runs Regional
specialist units that provide support and expertise to the ICRC’s delegations
in Africa.
Radio
Operator
The
ICRC Regional Delegation in Nairobi is seeking for an experienced and highly
motivated person to fill the above-mentioned position.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain
HF continuous communication with ICRC mobile stations and personnel in the
field for locations, status, and security reports. Assist other mobile
stations in relaying of information in case of propagation problems;
- VHF
radio contacts with mobiles stations and ICRC personnel within range for
regular communication pertaining to their operations. (e.g. Pick-ups,
Welcome Services, Nursing care etc);
- Monitor
Mobile Stations, ICRC Aircraft movement and Information Technology Local
Area Network using the recommended monitoring tools and take necessary
actions or escalate incidents to the relevant offices to address any
incidents that may arise;
- Maintain
station logs of messages transmitted and received for operations;
- Assist
in training of Radio Communication operations to users in the Delegation
and the greater region when called upon;
- Conduct
periodic equipment inspections and routine tests in order to ensure that
operations standards are met;
- Broadcasting
of information concerning Security Alert locally, using relevant means,
i.e. VHF, SMS, or phones;
- Faxing
of documents as requested by departments within the Delegation;
- Scanning
of documents as requested by the Departments within the delegation;
- Record
Unit Manager – Electronic Filing;
- Attending
to telephone calls during the night times, public holidays, and other
times in the absence of the switchboard operators, testing telephone lines
and reporting any faults to the IT Helpdesk;
Minimum Requirements:
- Diploma
in Radio Telephony and communication;
- Qualified
Air operations communicator;
- Computer
Literate;
- Good
command of English and Swahili language both written and oral;
- Minimum
3 years’ experience in a similar job from a reputable organisation.
Other requirements:
- Ability
to listen closely, clear verbal communication, high sense of
confidentiality;
- Ability
to work independently, good team spirit, ability to work in a cosmopolitan
environment;
- Ability
to work under pressure, willingness to work on shift basis.
Information and Communication Technology
(ICT) Technician
The ICRC Regional
Delegation in Nairobi is seeking for an experienced and highly motivated person
to fill the above-mentioned position.
Responsibilities:
- Provide support by assisting computer users on
a day to day basis;
- Ensure proper functioning of computers,
printers and the network environment;
- Assist in the introduction of computer
technologies and ensure error free standard software and hardware
installed and configuration on workstations according to ICRC policy;
- Install and maintain connectivity devices on
ICRC LAN’s;
- Train, support and advise computer, radio and
telephone users in the region;
- Administer and maintain IT inventory;
- Plan, install, maintain and repair all the
radio communication systems (i.e. Mobile & fixed radio installations,
repeaters, operational radio room) in the region;
- Undertake Field Missions within the region as
requested.
Minimum Requirements
- Degree/Diploma in Information Technology;
- Professional certification in a Network
Operating System or Software Development;
- Good knowledge of computer hardware /
software, utilities, printers and peripherals;
- Experience in HF & VHF radio installations
and technologies;
- At least (3) three years’ experience in
Network Administration;
- Knowledge of French is an added advantage.
Other requirements:
- Good organizational, interpersonal,
communication and analytical skills;
- Ability to work independently and in a team;
- Flexibility to work under pressure.
