A
leading mid-sized insurance company with profits in excess of Ksh. 200m dealing
in general insurance is looking to recruit a suitably qualified, dynamic and
experienced individual to join their high powered team as the Chief Accountant,
reporting to the Chief Executive Officer.

The
candidate will:
- Provide
leadership and accountability for the organisation’s finance and
accounting functions and ensure accomplishment of departmental goals and
objectives.
- Ensure
compliance with accounting disciplines, controls and policies by the
International Finance Reporting Standards, company guidelines, IRA and all
other regulatory requirements.
- Prepare
and review management reports and accounts
- Regularly
evaluate accounting procedures/manuals against business set standards and
implement productive measures.
- Prepare
and maintain up-to-date accounting manuals.
- Coordinate
end year audit process and ensure that correct and relevant audit
schedules are provided to the auditors on a timely basis.
- Oversee
the running of all the payroll functions. Manage all the data capture,
payments, deductions, communication and documentation in payroll
operations.
- Overseeing
and control of company investments to ensure maximization of returns.
- Ensure
tax planning and compliance.
- Develop
and implement equitable stakeholder contracts and due execution of
policies and other accountable documents.
- Continuously
review and optimise business processes and mobilise resources to meet the
changing business needs.
- Drive
technical professional and excellence in behaviours across the accounting
department team and effectively manage internal and external stakeholders.
- Cultivate
a culture of high performance, ethics and ownership within the department.
Minimum Qualification and Experience
- Bachelor
of Commerce in Accounting, Finance or Business related degree.
- Master’s
Degree will be an added advantage.
- Full
ACCA/CPA (K) qualification and member of ICPAK.
- Insurance
qualifications AIIK/CII.
- Minimum
of 10 years’ experience in similar position, 3 of which at managerial
level in the insurance industry.
- Proficient
in an established accounting software package or EPR.
- Proficient
in insurance management software packages preferably Premia Systems.
- Proficient
user of the MS Office application.
- Demonstrate
an understanding of the insurance market and processes.
- Demonstrate
strong leadership as well as good mentoring and coaching skills.
- Pragmatic
decision maker with strong analytical and numerical reasoning.
- Strong
team player, change manager and communicator with superior negotiation
skills.
