Program Description: Research Care and Training Program (RCTP) is collaboration between the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), University of California, SanFrancisco (UCSF), university of Washington, (UW).

RCTP leads the Family AIDS Care and Education Services (FACES) program, a comprehensive HIV Prevention, Care and Treatment program working in 140 clinics in Kisumu,Migori and Homa bay Counties, Kenya.

ADaPT is a study evaluating the effectiveness and efficiency of sequential adaptive strategies on patient retention among HIV-infected adults enrolled in HIV care and treatment at FACES supported health facilities.

The ADaPT study is seeking to employ applicants for the position of Research Coordinator

Location: Kisumu County with frequent travels to Migori and Homabay counties.

Duration of the Study: 3 Years

Requirements:

  • B.A. in health sciences or other related field
  • Two years of health research coordination experience
  • Prior experience with quantitative and qualitative research
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in HIV prevention, care, and treatment services
  • Excellent communication skills and Computer software skills (MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Supervision experience
  • Attention to detail
  • Those with a diploma in nursing or clinical medicine with research coordination experience are also encouraged to apply.


Desirable
  • Current Good Clinical Practice (GCP) or research ethics certificate
  • Experience with electronic medical record management

Duties and Responsibilities

The research coordinator will work on the Adaptive Strategies for Preventing & Treating Lapses of Retention in Care (AdaPT) study under the direction of the study Principal Investigators and Co-Investigators.

She/he will work closely with the UCSF-based research coordinator to coordinate research study associated activities.

She/he is responsible for local coordination and smooth functioning of the research project on a daily basis.

This includes coordinating communications with regulatory boards, staff and investigators, assisting investigators with implementation of the protocol, planning and problem-solving, adverse event monitoring, and overseeing data management.

She/he will train study staff, ensure all have completed humans subjects training, ensure that the recruitment and follow-up goals of the study are met, provide protocol guidance to staff, work closely with the study administrator to ensure administrative needs of field staff are met, oversight of study expenditures and budget.

She/he will supervise other research staff including site leads, research assistants, and tracers.

She/he wills liaison with the FACES program directors and relevant technical staff to communicate study progress and plans for coordinated and amiable efforts.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Plans and coordinates the initiation of research study protocol, and the establishment of operating policies and procedures.
  • Manages local regulatory board responsibilities, including study record keeping and reporting per regulatory policy and ensuring for communication of the same to the UCSF-based research coordinator for parallel reporting.
  • Plans, implements, supervise and conducts routine assessment of data collection and analysis systems in support of research protocol; may coordinate the collection and analysis of research data.
  • Trains and supervises local research staff and ensures all have completed human subjects training.
  • Ensures the smooth and efficient day-to-day operation of research and data collection activities.
  • Coordinates the day-to-day activities of any technical support staff specifically engaged in the carrying out of research/clinical protocol, as appropriate to the position.
  • Monitors study expenditures and budget, in collaboration with the study administrator.
  • Monitors data management needs and identifies and resolves data problems, in collaboration with the study data manager.
  • Communicates closely with study investigators and UCSF-based research coordinator for smooth study implementation and follow up.

Liaisons with FACES program directors and relevant technical staff to communicate study progress and plans for coordinated and amiable efforts.
