Deworm the
World Initiative (DtWI) actively supports the scale-up of school-based
deworming programs worldwide to improve children’s health, education, and
long-term development.
Dispensers
for Safe Water is an entrepreneurial program scaling the chlorine dispenser
system – a proven innovation that dramatically expands access to water
treatment at an extremely low cost.
DtWI
provides technical assistance to National School-Based Deworming Programme
(NSBDP), which is implemented by the Ministry of Education, Science and
Technology (MoEST) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MoH) in 28
Counties and 143 Sub-Counties across Kenya. In the first year of the Programme
(2012-2013), 5.9 million children were dewormed in over 13,000 schools in
Nyanza, Western, Rift Valley, Coast and parts of Central regions.

Communications and Media working within organization’s Programme Implementation
Team.
The
successful candidate will have a passion for communications, public relations,
and media and driven by a mission to increase the presence of the NSBDP to all
of its relevant partners.
Job Purpose: To strengthen the communications
and media work of the Kenya National School-Based Deworming Programme by
engaging the broader Kenyan public (including rural communities where the
programme focuses treatment) through media outlets to raise NSBDP’s profile and
objectives, primarily through communication tools, media/public relations and
stakeholder events.
Management Responsibility
Description of Duties
Programme Communications:
- Develop, design and review, in collaboration with the Programme Implementation team, non-technical programme materials, including: PowerPoint presentations, briefing materials, fact sheets, marketing materials, reporting templates, media materials, and other documents as assigned
- Manage final layout and design of programme training materials, reports, and other documents as assigned
- Support the process of drafting, editing and updating programme-specific donor and programme reports
- Conceptualize and develop creative communication actions and tools for NSBDP
- Assist in development and implementation of NSBDP’s communication strategy and report on the progress of implementation
Media/ Public Relations
- Coordinate programme engagements with media (specifically radio) for community sensitization and mobilization for deworming, including:
- Identifying appropriate national and local radio stations within treatment areas
- Developing radio messages for use pre-Deworming Day
- Developing and packaging media briefs and media packets
- Participating in sensitization meetings with partner radio stations as directed by supervisor
- Build and maintain relationships with various media houses within all treatment areas and maintain communication lines at during relevant moments during implementation
- Provide updates/reports on media relationships to NSBDP governance structure
- Support the development of programmatic media engagement protocols and guidelines and build the programme’s capacity on engagement with media
- Support and strengthen internal and external communication and media work of NSBDP
- Oversee, monitor and document media coverage of the NSBDP and press around deworming, child health/education, and other relevant areas
- Develop communication messages, draft documents relevant to NSBDP’s work and disseminate to pertinent audiences via SMS platform, email, and other communication channels
- Assist in organization and planning of meetings and events with relevant programme stakeholders, including Government of Kenya personnel, NTD experts, and media
- Liaise with communication teams at Evidence Action to ensure NSBDP/DtWI is featured in the organization’s online and print documentation platforms (e.g. newsletters, brochures, blog) and social media outlets (Facebook and Twitter)

- Bachelor’s degree (and additional work experience) in communications, public relations, media, or related field
Relevant Experience and Key skills:
- A minimum of 3 years work experience with developing media plans, working with media to (e.g. developing press kits, writing press release, managing media-focused events).
- High-quality professional writing skills (ability to develop technical pieces and able to translate technical information into lay language)
- Relationships with national and local media (within and outside of Nairobi) or ability to develop continuous relationships to maximize NSBDP visibility
- Experience designing and editing documents and presentations using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Publisher), Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop/Acrobat, and other editing/design software.

Implementation Cascade, working within organization’s Programme Implementation
team.
The
successful candidate will have a passion for programme coordination and driven
by a mission to continually improve the quality of implementation and outcomes.
Job Purpose: To contribute to the coordination
of field activities of the Kenya National School-Based Deworming Programme by
working closely with counties and sub-counties.
The
position holder will ensure that the training cascade is effectively delivered
and that treatment data generated after all deworming activities are submitted
for analysis.
This role
has to work closely with the training, supply chain, logistics and communication
teams to ensure programme plans are executed at the counties and districts.
Description of Duties
Cascade planning and implementation
- Negotiate with CDEs on receipt of materials by their offices, their storage and final dispatch to districts and follow up on whether they received these materials
- Communicate with DMOHs to inform them about arrival of drugs at their regional depots, the dates when they should start collecting the drugs and the funds available for this exercise
- Fast track any challenges faced by DMOHs regarding drugs and respond accordingly. These may include:
- Accessing tab-pick up forms and filling them
- Accessing funds for drug pick up
- Completing accountability documents
- Connecting with KEMSA depot
- Accessing the right quantity of drugs by DMOH or schools
- Expiry date and batch number issues
- Redistribution or transfer of drugs between districts
- Monitor delivery of drugs to TTSs to ensure all schools receive sufficient drugs for DD
- Follow up events of deworming day for any reports of SAE for schistosomiasis treating districts and report the same to the supervisor
- Plan and implement county meetings, district trainings, CHEW forums, teacher trainings, deworming days
- Oversee full implementation of the reverse cascade (return of treatment data, tablet accountability documents, financial accountability documents)
- Update school treatment lists for schistosomiasis
- Communicate schistosomiasis targeting with the districts
- Participate in the planning and execution of programme trainings and meetings.
- Accompany GoK and other external partners to monitoring visits as may be assigned by the supervisor to help support with a better understanding of the programme’s implementation
Reporting:
- Contribute to the writing programme and donor reports as assigned by the supervisor
- Document any unique features from counties and districts that may require special attention from the programme
- Document lessons learnt, challenges from cascade implementation activities and provide suggestions/recommendations to the supervisor for programme adjustments for future implementation approaches and activities

Implementation Logistics working within organization’s Programme Implementation
team. The successful candidate will have a passion for logistics and driven by
a mission to offer cost effective solutions and timely support for
implementation of the NSBDP.
Job Purpose: To coordinate supply and team
logistics for the National School-Based Deworming Programme.
This role
works very closely with the team members (Programme Associate: Supply chain,
Programme Associate; Budgeting and Costing, Programme Associate: Cascade
Implementation, Procurement, and Finance and Administration) to ensure
successful delivery of programme supplies and teams to the field and that the
field teams are sufficiently supported logistically to deliver trainings and
deworming days.
Description of Duties
Transportation and Travel:
- Engage a transporter identified by the procurement team to deliver training materials and tablet poles to the field
- Work with an appointed MoH official in organizing transport and accompaniment for drugs to regional KEMSA depots
- Create and manage customized transport and logistical itineraries for delivery of programme materials, master trainers and drugs to districts
- Liaise with the programme coordination team to ensure the decisions for movement of materials drugs and people to programme sites is both efficient and timely
- In liaison with the training team, develop and communicate both inter and intra district movements for programme trainers optimizing partner relationships to bring about efficiency and cost-savings from the national to the school level in liaison with the larger DtWI Team
- Work with the procurement team in identifying programme vendors with the goal of ensuring listed vendors meet the requirements of efficient programme delivery
- Engage and monitor programme transport vendors to deliver training materials, tablet poles, programme trainers, and other related programme deliverables to the right programme sites
- Maintain healthy relationships with vendors and service providers such as transport companies, hotels, training venues and other vendors relevant to Programme Implementation
- Initiate and manage all programme communications relating to movement of materials, drugs and trainers to programme districts
- Support the procurement team in the purchase of programme promotional materials e.g. banners, fliers, T-shirts, bags etc.
Programme support:
- Contribute to review of training materials at all stages of implementation and provide input related to programme logistics
- Support in the planning and execution of events to advocate on behalf of the program or to advance its mission such as Annual Programme Review
- Participate in programme strategy development meetings and contribute logistical implications of proposed decisions
- Consolidate and continuously update observations and lessons learned from all logistics activities and share with the broader DtWI team for programme improvement and for donor reporting
- Participate in the planning and execution of programme training activities and meetings
