Job Vacancies at the Aga Khan Hospital

The Aga Khan Health Services, Kenya which is part of Aga Khan Development Network operates two secondary care level hospitals and a number of outreach health facilities in Mombasa and Kisumu.

The Hospitals are ISO 9001 :2008 certified and acknowledged for providing quality health care services.

Aga Khan Hospital Mombasa is looking for the following seasoned professionals who will be part of the leadership team responsible for strengthening existing programs and services and also for strongly contributing to the growth of the health system.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the following positions are being actively sought:

Head of Finance

The Head of Finance will provide strategic leadership for financial management and will be responsible for ensuring good financial systems and controls.

He/she plays a lead role in the development and execution of the hospital’s business and strategic plans.

Major duties and responsibilities
  • Provide advice to the CEO and the senior management team on all financial matters.
  • To ensure financial planning, including budgeting, forecasting, reporting and financial performance management.
  • To ensure all tax and other statutory obligations are complied with.
  • To manage the working capital to meet the cash flow requirements of the hospital.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Masters Degree in Business Administration or Accounting (with major in Finance / Accountancy), CPA, ACCA or CA (Chartered Accountant).
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in financial management of which at least 4 years should be in a senior leadership role.
  • Excellent analytical and organisational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

Head of Facilities and Support Services

The Head of Facilities and Support Services will be responsible for overseeing and ensuring the provision of best practices in the hospitality departments of housekeeping, catering, maintenance, security and communication / transport services in line with the hospitals operating guidelines.

Major duties and responsibilities
  • To develop and implement the operational and budgeting plans for the hospitality services.
  • To be responsible for the maintenance department, ensuring the implementation of preventive maintenance programs and supervision of external contracts.
  • To ensure high standards of cleanliness for the facility and utilities in compliance with infection control policies of the hospital.
  • To ensure provision of high quality standard and cost effective food and beverage production and services.
  • To ensure compliance with statutory requirements of the facilities, services and environment (including NEMA and OSHA).
  • Co-ordinate and manage the transport and communication needs of various departments in the hospital.
  • Establish and implement policies and procedures for the safety and security services, including management of outsourced services.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Degree in Hospitality Management
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in hospitality management of which at least 4 years should be in a senior leadership role.
  • Familiar with applicable laws, codes and permit requirements that govern environmental (NEMA), regulations.
  • Ability to manage a multidisciplinary team.

Head of Outreach Services

In line with the hospitals strategic plan to roll out a network of outreach health centres, the Head of Outreach services will identify develop and commission approved Outreach Centres within the Coast cluster.

He/She will work with the senior management and the staff in the Outreach Health Centres to ensure maintenance of required quality and operating standards.

Major duties and responsibilities
  • To play a lead role in the planning and roll out of the outreach centres in the coast region.
  • To prepare and implement business development plans, including marketing activities to achieve the set targets for the centers.
  • To supervise outreach centre operations, including staffing, stock and asset management ¡n line with policies and procedures of the hospital.
  • To ensure delivery of effective, efficient and high quality services, including monitoring and evaluation of patient feedback.

Qualifications and Experience
  • A degree in a health related field
  • 8 years total working experience in a Health Institution, with at least 3 years in senior management
  • Knowledgeable in project planning, management and staff supervision.
  • Excellent verbal, analytical, organizational and written skills

Head of Nursing Services

The primary mandate of the Head of Nursing Services will be to ensure the provision of high quality nursing care, ensure proper documentation and to develop and implement the nursing strategic goals

Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide advice to the CEO and the senior management team on all Nursing matters.
  • Identify areas of improvement in nursing practice, initiate systematic studies and implement effective solutions.
  • Work closely with Heads of Clinical departments in ensuring implementation of hospital’s quality programs and effective patient care.
  • Ensure development of appropriate skill mix and competencies of nurses to fulfill the requirements of hospitals clinical programs.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Must be a registered Nurse with a Bachelors degree in Nursing.
  • Masters in Nursing or PHD will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum 8 years of clinical experience, 4 years of relevant management experience in a hospital and / or Nursing School and / or Relevant NGO or International Health organisation.
  • Familiar with applicable laws, codes and permit requirements that govern Nursing Services.
  • Knowledgeable in project planning, management and staff supervision.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in both English and Kiswahili.
