Branch Operations Manager

2 Positions

Reporting to the Branch Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing efficient operations support leading to higher customer and employee satisfaction, risk control and branch profitability in line with the Bank’s strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive performance management culture that will deliver the agreed individual objectives and goals in alignment with the Bank strategy.
  • Develop and implement effective monitoring and MIS to support the Branch performance. These to include daily reconciliations of items like Cash, Cashier records, ATMs, Issuance and reconciliation registers for loose assets, time locks, etc.
  • Manage the surprise checks program and review of the checks that have been done to ensure issues highlighted by the checkers are resolved promptly.
  • Develop a high performing team committed to achieving success through each other.
  • In conjunction with the Branch Manager and other Head Office Departments, maintain the look, feel and physical security of the branch to support the corporate brand.
  • Put strategies in place to enable the business unit achieve operational, productivity and financial performance targets as detailed in the annual budget.
  • Ensure adherence to Risk Control and Compliance requirements at all times (including Health and Safety, Security etc.)
  • Manage and assist in the remote and manual authorization to ensure efficient counter service and any other work assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications and competencies
  • A Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Commerce or related field.
  • Professional banking qualifications such as AKIB will be added advantage.
  • Knowledge of operational procedures and legalities relevant to branch operations.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop teams to achieve goals through teamwork.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in banking operations, 3 of which should be at a supervisory level in a Bank Branch.
  • Customer service orientation and commercial awareness.


Project Analyst

Reporting to the Credit Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for assessing risks and ensure effective monitoring and completion of projects financed by the Bank.

Key responsibilities

  • Appraisal and interpretation of feasibility studies from developers and project managers for lending purposes.
  • Conduct desktop research and analysis into major industry trends, competitor activity and customer needs.
  • Determine property values based on appraised market prices and the borrower’s credit worthiness.
  • Administer mortgage and other secured loan products as per approved amount levels and in accordance with lending policies.
  • Monitoring of projects financed by the Bank to ensure successful completion of the same.
  • Authenticate documentation presented for all credit applications and ensure they meet the KYC requirements and any other requirements as required by the Bank, our Regulators and legally
  • Continuously monitor and proactively manage risk/exposure and compliance with Credit Policy for assigned portfolio
  • Ensure all post approval activities, including conditions precedent to disbursement, are accurate and complete
  • Analyze financial information including operating statements and net worth statements to determine appropriate loan size, terms, and pricing.
  • Review various reports including appraisals, environmental documentation, and engineering reports to determine compliance with investor requirements.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience
  • A Bachelors degree in Construction Management or related field.
  • Good knowledge of principles of property valuation.
  • At least 4 years working experience in credit analysis and administration.
  • Excellent skills in analysis of Credit and Financial statements.
  • Good report writing and presentation skills.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work independently, consult and clarify where necessary and make informed and firm decisions.


Business Development Officers

Reporting to the Branch Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for driving and delivering excellent business performance through aggressive marketing of Bank products ensuring optimum productivity, high quality/yielding loan book, operation efficiency and outstanding relationship management.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities

  • Deposit mobilization.
  • Aggressively market for new liability accounts in line with the given targets.
  • Spearhead the credit function of the branch by ensuring growth of high quality loan book as per targets.
  • Ensure that all conditions pertaining to disbursements are fulfilled prior to disbursement requests being processed.
  • Develop good customer loans/facilities proposals that comply with the banks credit administration standards and policy.
  • Review customer demands in the market and recommend products/ services that will enable the Bank to compete in the area of operations.
  • In liaison with Credit Administration, ensure timely renewal of insurance policies for assets charged as security and timely updates of valuation reports for properties charged as security for loans extended by the bank under personal portfolio.
  • Effective monitoring of loan repayments and mitigating risks related to defaults and periodically reviewing the loan portfolio to manage likely problem areas.
  • Ensures regulatory compliance and implementation of effective anti-money laundering procedures and controls.
  • Keep abreast of new development in customer preference and advices management on relevant changes.
  • Manage customer relations under personal portfolio and ensure lasting relations are established with all clients.
  • Ensure prevention of income leakage and collection of revenue.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience
  • Holder of bachelor’s degree in a business related field. Professional banking qualifications will be added advantage.
  • Solid analytical skills and experience in credit appraisal, handling and resolving customer requests and queries.
  • Have strong communication and team building skills with ability to work with diverse teams.
  • Good understanding of prudential guidelines on KYC.
  • Creativity, initiative and be self driven with a strong commercial orientation.
  • Must have a minimum of 4 years sales experience in banking industry.


Business Development Managers
2 Positions

Overall Purpose: Reporting to the Branch Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for driving and delivering excellent business performance through powerful leadership of the branch Business Development team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be the key driver of deposit mobilization and liabilities growth for the branch.
  • Drive the growth of business current accounts and savings accounts for the branch.
  • Spearhead the credit function of the branch by ensuring a high quality loan book and growth.
  • Vetting of all branch appraisal reports to ensure that they comply with the banks credit appraisals and administration policy.
  • Periodically review the manuals and automated processes, systems and procedures in place to ensure they are effective and efficient, while adhering to the bank’s credit policies and procedures.
  • Effective monitoring of loan repayments and mitigating risks related to defaults and periodically reviewing the loan portfolio of the Branch to manage likely problem areas.
  • Ensures regulatory compliance and implementation of effective anti-money laundering procedures, controls.
  • Ensures high level of customer relations is maintained by all staff in Business Development unit so as to attain 100% rating in customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure prevention of income leakage and drive for efficient and effective collection of revenue
  • Ensures smooth people management functions for staff including training of staff, managing performance, employee relations at department level.

Qualifications and Competencies
  • A Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Commerce or related field.
  • Professional Banking qualifications will be added advantage.
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in sales in the Banking sector, 3 of which should be at management level.
  • Strong leadership, communication and team building skills with ability to manage diverse teams.
  • Self driven with a strong commercial orientation.


Relationship Manager, Trade Finance

Reporting to the Head of Corporate Banking, the successful candidate will be responsible for effectively managing the trade finance portfolio so as to achieve sustained business growth and meet revenue targets.

Key responsibilities

  • Achieve set sales performance targets in trade finance, international banking services and other capital financing products assigned to clients and new clientele.
  • Formulate resource, deliver and review sales strategies in trade finance and international business.
  • Develop customized international trade finance solutions to enhance profitability on international business.
  • Enhance internal and external trade finance profiles to promote business and generate new sales opportunities.
  • Provide solutions that meet customers’ needs while adhering to the regulatory framework and the Bank ‘s credit policy.
  • Recommend and propose improvements in trade finance and international business products in order to remain competitive in the market.
  • Ensure maximum utilization of trade finance facilities provided to clients and originate new trade finance deals/repeat business from these clients.
  • Research and disseminate up-to-date market intelligence to different departments and branches.

Qualifications and competencies

The candidate must possess the following qualifications and competencies
  • A Bachelors degree in Economics, Commerce, Business Management or other related field.
  • Professional Banking qualifications such as AKIB, ACIB will be added advantage.
  • Must have a minimum of five years working experience in Trade Finance and international business with solid knowledge of trade finance products, import/export finance, commodity finance.
  • Have credit risk management skills.
  • Must be self-driven, possess excellent communication and selling skills.
  • Strong networking and relationship building capacity.
  • Good leadership and management skills.

Branch Manager

2 Positions

Reporting to the Head of Retail & SME, the successful candidate will be responsible for running an effective and efficient branch leading to higher staff engagement, customer satisfaction, profitability and growth in line with the Bank’s strategy.

Key responsibilities

  • Implement the Bank’s strategy at branch level i.e. growth in customer base with concurrent growth in branch liabilities and assets.
  • Oversee customer service delivery, maintenance and improvement of Retail Banking service standards in order to ensure customer satisfaction and retention.
  • Formulate and implement branch business plans, forecasts and budgets and ensure their control and periodic reviews.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to staff and be responsible for their training, development and performance management.
  • Implement and monitor the operational risk management guidelines for the branch.
  • Support marketing initiatives and monitor and provide regular feedback on products performance.
  • Maintain the look, feel and physical security of the branch premises as well as staff and customers.

Qualifications and competencies
  • A Bachelors degree in Economics, Commerce, Business Management or other related field.
  • Professional banking qualifications such as AKIB will be added advantage.
  • Knowledge of operational procedures, procedures and legalities relevant to branch operations.
  • At least 5 years’ managerial experience in the banking industry.
  • Strong commercial orientation with excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to lead teams and deliver business results.


Debt Recovery Manager

Overall Purpose: Reporting to the Head of Credit, the successful candidate will be responsible for effectively managing the Bank’s debt recovery activities to ensure timely collection of all monies due.

Core Duties & Responsibilities
  • Plan and implement collection strategies and make recommendations on new techniques of collection to reduce bad debts.
  • Ensure controls and compliance with corporate policies and maintenance of necessary books of accounts, meeting time and accuracy norms and preparing reconciliation.
  • Prepare bad debt reports and draw these to the attention of the management with recommendations on actions to take to minimise risk.
  • Ensure debtors’ accounts are managed accurately, statements issued on time, reconciliation issues are addressed effectively and debtor’s aging lists are prepared and submitted in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Ensure that appropriate records of bad debts and collections are appropriately maintained and updated on a regular basis.
  • Establish and manage commercial arrangements with third parties for the recovery of bad debts.
  • Frequently contact/visit customers with outstanding accounts so as to collect outstanding monies and minimise loss.
  • Issue demand and reminder letters to customers with overdue accounts and maintain all debtor correspondence.
  • Initiate and follow through legal proceedings against bad debtors in line with the Bank’s policy.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Law or related field.
  • Professional Banking qualifications will be added advantage.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in credit management.
  • Knowledge of debt recovery procedures including legal procedures related to debt collection.
  • Strong decision making and problem solving ability.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Head of Credit Risk Management

Job Purpose: Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Head of Credit will take charge of and manage the Bank’s credit function efficiently and effectively in order to ensure profitability, maintain a quality loan book and ensure that the organisation is not exposed to credit risk.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement of the Bank’s credit strategy.
  • Formulate and implement the Bank’s credit policy.
  • Conduct regular reviews of the credit policy to ensure its relevance to business requirements and CBK and statutory regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with the Bank’s credit policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that customers’ financing needs for working capital and capital expenditure are addressed appropriately and profitably through the offer of suitable credit products.
  • Formulate and optimize credit scoring strategies in various business areas.
  • Ensure and maintain proper documentation of all advances.
  • Liaise with valuers and advocates to monitor perfection of securing documentation in conformity with the terms of offer letters.
  • Ensure compliance with Central Bank guidelines in relation to credit transactions, asset classification, income recognition and provisioning norms.
  • Manage credit risk though regular analysis and evaluation;
  • Make recommendations and develop techniques and strategies to manage, control and mitigate risk.
  • Liaise with the Credit Reference Bureau on prospects/ commitment clients and report our under performing files to ensure non- migration of bad assets within the industry.
  • Carry out credit appraisals to vet all credit proposals from branches and other lines of business.
  • Monitor and administer credit performance through reports and returns from officers/ branches.
  • Liaise with the compliance team to ensure lending activities within the pre-determined risk profile and statutory / regulatory requirements.
  • Overall control of the lending book; manage all substandard and bad accounts to maximize recovery and ensure that appropriate and timely loan loss provisions have been made.
  • Provide oversight and guidance on the credit cycle operations across the business and to business heads.
  • Prepare and submit reports on credit control, risk and bad debts.
  • Manage all credit related matters with a high degree of integrity.
  • Manage, lead and develop staff in the credit department.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience
  • A Bachelors Degree in a Business or Finance related field.
  • A Masters Degree in a relevant field will be an added advantage.
  • A minimum of 10 years experience in a credit function, 5 of which must be in senior managerial level within a bank, financial institution or other service oriented organisation.
  • Financial/credit risk and analysis training and other relevant credit training at an advanced level.
  • Experience in and understanding of credit processes, lending and customer care.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Banking Act and Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) clearing procedures and prudential guidelines.
