Programme Assistant Job in Kenya

WWF, the Global Conservation Organization, through its office in Kenya, is seeking to recruit key staff to work in the Mau Mara Serengeti (MMS) landscape.

The MMS Landscape is one of the four priority landscapes in WWF’s African Rift Lakes (ARL) Priority Place.

This trans-boundary landscape includes the world-famous Mara-Serengeti ecosystem and large parts of the Mau Forest Complex.

Landscape’s rich biodiversity also includes important populations of WWF flagship species such as the African Elephant and the Eastern Black Rhinoceros.

In order to address the increasing threats on this unique landscape, WWF has reinforced its long-standing support to this area by combining projects into one comprehensive landscape programme.

We therefore require the following staff to help manage this programme:

Job Title: Programme Assistant

Responsible to: Programme Manager, MMS

Supervises: None

Location: Narok

Key Purpose of the Post: The holder of the position will play a major role in providing technical and administrative support to the MMS programme (HSBC, Ma Ma Se and Species programmes, SIDA, NORAD) .

S/he will be expected to assist the Programme Manager in logistics, planning of meetings/ partnership liaison, preparation and production of work plans and budgets, monitoring the implementation of the said plans, assist the manager in the production of technical reports and other materials.

General Programme and Administrative Support

The Programme Assistant will provide general administrative support to the Programme Manager.

These include but not limited to:
  • Assist the Programme Manager in organizing meetings related to the programme as may be needed from time to time, and handle the organisational aspects of visits and/or meetings/workshops as requested by the programme and partner of the Ma Ma Se programme and others;
  • Assist in editing, proof-reading, formatting, printing and storing/filing documents and reports;
  • Assist the programme in working on financial management and follow up on payments, financial reports for projects;
  • Respond to queries and special requests from within the WWF Network in consultation with the programme manager;
  • Assist the Programme Manager in general programme development;

Technical Monitoring Support
  • Assist in tracking, consolidating and forwarding of project progress technical reports to the Conservation Manager, Country Director and/or the relevant donors;
  • Assist in monitoring implementation of work plans, identify constraints and assist in their resolution;
  • Assist in collating information and updating the programme’s monitoring matrix and other monitoring systems in place as required.
  • Assist the Programme in providing support to evaluations and consultancies;

Communications and Partnerships
  • Liaise with the KCO Communications Department in the compilation of news and the production of communications materials and bulletins from partners and the programme.
  • Ensure liaison with field projects and when necessary arrange field visits to assist Programme activities and provide necessary support.
  • Assist in handling correspondence and programme coordination with WWF project teams and external audience on the MMS work;

Other Duties
  • Any other duties as may be requested by management.

Specific Qualifications and Experiences:
  • A minimum of Bachelors degree in Environmental Science, Social sciences or related field;
  • Possession of a Masters degree in a relevant field will be an added advantage;
  • A minimum of 3 years working experience in natural resource conservation and/or management;
  • Interpersonal skills and good team worker;
  • Excellent analytical, writing and communications skills;
  • Computer literacy;
  • Ability to work in a team;
  • Fluency in English and Kiswahili
  • Passionate, challenging, inspiring, persevering and delivering results.
