Training Consultant - Evidence
Action
About Evidence Action: Evidence Action is assuming
management and growth responsibility for two programs tested and incubated at
Innovations for Poverty Action that are currently making a difference in the
lives of millions of people in Africa and Asia: the Deworm the World Initiative
(DTW) and Dispensers for Safe Water Initiative (DSW).
Description: Evidence Action is providing
Technical Support to a National Service Programme, which aims to:
1. Create
enriching opportunities for over 30,000 unemployed Kenyan youth.
2. Improve
educational outcomes for over 2 million primary school children.
3. Promote
national cohesion.
As a part
of this programme, Evidence Action seeks to recruit high performing recent
university graduates to serve as Volunteer Graduate Assistants in primary
schools, where they will provide education support and serve as ‘education
ambassadors’ in the surrounding community.
This
programme will also provide these volunteers with professional skills and
increased access to top employers in Kenya.
Purpose of Consultancy: The Training Consultant will lead
all aspects of planning and coordination of a 3-week residential training
session for between 50-100 volunteers taking place beginning in late May. This
involves a high level of logistical organization, system development, and
planning.
It will
also require that the consultant provide continual support to various agencies
in the Government of Kenya; and that Evidence Action’s input, contributions and
suggestions are incorporated into the training agenda.
Overall the
key goals of the Government of Kenya, Evidence Action and other development
partners must be met and evidenced in a high degree of collaboration and
ultimately, a successful training.
Term: 3 months, with the possibility to
extend.
Responsibilities
Content
- Develop an agenda for each day of the volunteer training in collaboration with government partners and Evidence Action’s team.
- Ensure that the appropriate parties have reviewed the content of each presentation or training session, and that all stakeholders agree that the content of the each session will achieve programmatic goals.
- Edit all presentations and printed materials for accuracy and consistency.
- Liaise with Evidence Action team members to ensure that the overall content of the training will achieve Evidence Action’s goals, and will likely lead to a training that effectively prepares volunteers to achieve their objectives.
- Support Government Stakeholders, including the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development to create high quality training presentations based on their suggestions and comments.
Logistics
- Manage all logistics related to the venue, travel, accommodation, and food for volunteers, facilitators and other individuals who may be present
- Liaise with Evidence Action Admin personnel to ensure high quality logistics for the event and that all arrangements conform to organizational policy
- Ensure that all required materials including presentations, notebooks, print outs, handouts, books, agendas etc are produced and distributed to all participants.
- Manage all logistics of a potential site visit by volunteers and trainers to a nearby school.
- Act as point of liaison between Evidence Action and GoK personnel responsible for the high profile programme launch that will act as the first session of the training.
- Attend all days of the programme training to ensure smooth operations and to trouble shoot
Financial
- Develop a detailed budget for the training events
- Track expenditures to ensure appropriate spending
- Establish appropriate relationships with vendors that may be used over the life of the programme establishing their pricing structure and contracts with the Government of Kenya and/or on behalf of Evidence Action.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
Experience
- Experience working with government agencies and NGOs
- Experience participating in, and planning training sessions/events in Kenya
- Proven track record of tendering, evaluating and contracting with vendors
- Able to set up accountability systems
- Experience developing, managing, and working within an established project budget.
Skills
- Exceptionally strong strategic thinking and planning skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Able to multi-task and adhere to very tight time frames
- Able to perform under pressure
- Ability to manage complex logistics, and multiple priorities
- Superb organization, detail-orientation, and project management skills
- High level of proficiency with Microsoft Word, Powerpoint and Excel
This
consultancy is based in Nairobi, with potential travel to other regions of
Kenya
