Fiber Plant Technicians
Reporting
to the Technical Operations Manager, the ideal candidates will be responsible
for splicing and record keeping of MTN Business Kenya fiber plant at
development/building stage and subsequent maintenance.
The incumbent shall be responsible
for:
- Fiber splicing during network expansion.
- Fiber splicing and termination to customer endpoint.
- Troubleshooting fiber plant faults.
- Fiber splicing on maintenance occasioned by fault.
- Schedule and perform regular preventive maintenance on the fibre plant.
- Regular servicing of fiber splicing and maintenance tools/equipment.
- Keep and avail record of fiber pair splicing details on a weekly basis.
- Provide monthly data on fiber plant cable utilisation.
Knowledge, skills and ability
required:
- Diploma / Certificate in Computer Science/ Electrical/ Electronics / Information technology
- At least 2 years experience in telecoms or ISP environment.
- Industry certifications in Optical network/ structured cabling technologies would be an added advantage.
- Good experience in fiber plant troubleshooting.
- Experience splicing plant to support ECI, Huawei, ZTE, Tejas (SDH/GPON/Metro Ethernet)
- Experience in OTDR (power and loss/attenuation analysis )
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent planning, analytical and problem solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
