Project Accountant Job in Kenya

Our client is a growing real estate company that is inspired by the need to offer standard affordable houses to hard working Kenyan families.

They intend to bridge the gap between the huge demand for affordable housing against the supply shortage through an innovative solution that will help transform the region’s urban landscape and bring the dream of home ownership to reality for the masses.

They intend to put up 1,000 homes in the booming satellite town of Athi River.

They are looking for a talented, self-motivated, passionate and tenacious Project Accountant who can successfully spearhead the Finance function for the development.

The jobholder will report directly to the Managing Director.

Job Purpose: The Project Accountant will be responsible for the day to day accounting and financial reporting requirements of the company while safeguarding the reputation of the company by dealing with all stakeholders in an honest and professional manner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintaining all the books of accounts at an efficient and accurate level at all times.
  • Preparing realistic, attainable and sustainable cash-flow forecasts and monthly projections.
  • Managing funds flow with regard to bank draw-downs and house sale revenues by closely tracking deposits, mortgage disbursements and follow-ups to instalment payments.
  • Working with the sales team to match the financial and sales position along the project’s development.
  • Generating financial reports as required by the Management and Board of Directors.
  • Keeping the management aware of all financial transactions at all times.
  • Ensuring creditors and debtors are paid/received on time.
  • Managing the day to day banking requirements of the company and not limited to daily bank reconciliation.
  • Ensuring all taxes, VAT, company returns and any other Government outgoings are paid and remitted on time.
  • Managing of audit process and preparation of the company accounts for the auditors.
  • Preparing monthly P&L account and balance sheets.
  • Preparing monthly trial balances of operations.
  • Preparing of annual budgets for approval by the management and producing monthly budget updates against actuals.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce or Business related course in Finance.
  • Professional qualifications in CPA III/ACCA III/CIMA or its equivalent.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills in Excel and Modelling are desirable.
  • Practical experience using generic Accounting software such as QuickBooks.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ Accounting experience with a strong element of project finance.
  • Prior experience within the real estate sector will be an added advantage.
