The Kenya
Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) is a State Corporation established through
the Science and Technology (Amendment) Act of 1979.
It is one
of the leading health research Institutes in Africa responsible for carrying
out research in Kenya.
The HIV
Infant Tracking System (HITSystem) program, started in 2011, as a supplement to
the Early Infant HIV Diagnosis services provided pro bono by the Kenya Medical
Research Institute in support of the national HIV Program.
The HIV
Infant Tracking System (HITSystem) is an online system that links the hospital,
laboratory and mothers of HIV-exposed infants to improve communication and
accountability for improved Early Infant Diagnosis of HIV outcomes in Kenya.
The
HITSystem utilizes an algorithm for EID interventions and provides electronic
alerts when time-sensitive interventions are needed.
The program
seeks to evaluate Early Infant HIV Diagnosis outcomes from a health facility’s
perspective.
To do so
effectively, the program is seeking to fill the following position

Essential qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a science or health related field
- Diploma’s in science or health related field with relevant experience may be considered
- Knowledge of HIV prevention and treatment services
- 1-2 years’ experience with research
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to effectively communicate with HIV providers, HIV patients and the research team
- Exceptional eye for detail
- Strong organizational skills
- Commitment to integrity and high quality performance
- Strong professional references from previous supervisors
- Above average computer applications experience and proficiency
- Currently reside in or be willing to relocate to the Study Sites
Preferred qualifications:
- Master’s degree in a science or health related field
- 3-5 years research/clinical setting experience
- Experience with Early Infant Diagnosis (EID) of HIV
- Experience in health systems research
Summary of Position: The Site Coordinator will be part
of a NIH funded study team to evaluate the impact of the HIV Infant Tracking
System (HITSystem) to improve quality and retention of EID.
The Site
Coordinator will work directly with the EID providers at the two study
hospitals in their region to monitor HIT System outcomes and facilitate
follow-up services for HIV+ mothers and their infants.
The Site
Coordinators will communicate routinely and work collaboratively with the
entire research study team in planning and conducting targeted data collection.
The Site
Coordinator will be based at the intervention hospital and with scheduled trips
to the control hospital in their region.
He/she will
be responsible for the coordination of all study related activities at the two
hospitals in their region to ensure adherence to study protocols and routine
reporting to the Program Director and Principal Investigator.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop an in-depth understanding of study design and goal, and ensure that the study is conducted in compliance with study protocols and other regulatory requirements
- Participate in monthly research team conference calls
- Respond to questions about the study posed by participants and study team
- Monitor and report on enrolment progress
- Ensure all items necessary for successful conduct of the study are available to staff
- Provide progress reports as well as report and solve problems encountered in the field to the Principal Investigator
